Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard first and look for an active Gemini incident that matches the product you use and the error you see. If Google reports a matching incident, the problem is on Google’s side. If there is no matching notice, compare Gemini on another device, browser or network to narrow down whether the issue follows your setup. A clear dashboard is useful evidence, but it does not prove that every Gemini feature is working for every account or region.
The most reliable answer comes from combining two kinds of evidence: Google’s own incident description and controlled comparisons of your account, device, browser or app, and network. One failed attempt is not enough to identify the cause, and one successful attempt elsewhere does not prove that the service is healthy for everyone.
Check Google’s official status page first
Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard is the first place to check. Google says the dashboard shows the current and past status of core Workspace services, including Gemini, and provides incident details and resolution updates. Open the dashboard and find Gemini in its service list; inspect both the current status and any recent incident history.
Look for an incident marked active or ongoing, then read its details rather than relying on the status label alone. The description may identify affected Gemini surfaces, models, errors, or types of users. A notice that matches what you are experiencing is strong evidence of a service-side problem. Follow the incident updates for changes or a final resolution notice.

Read the incident record as a scope statement. It may apply to Gemini Web but not the mobile app, to a Workspace integration but not the consumer interface, or to one model rather than every model. It may also describe elevated error rates rather than a complete outage. Those distinctions matter because a person can be unable to use one Gemini feature while another continues to work normally.
Check the incident’s start time, latest update, affected services, stated symptoms and resolution status. If the record says the issue is mitigated but you still see the same error, record the time of your test and compare your product surface and model with the scope Google lists. A mitigation or resolution update is evidence about Google’s service, not a guarantee that every session has recovered at exactly the same moment.
Do not assume that a dashboard with no matching incident means your device must be at fault. A newly emerging issue may not be listed yet, and the dashboard does not establish exhaustive live coverage for every consumer feature, model, account type, or geographic region. Treat it as an important signal, not a guarantee about every part of Gemini. Recheck it if the problem continues, especially when the failure appears across independent setups.

Match the incident to the Gemini feature and error
Gemini is available through different product surfaces, and an issue affecting one does not automatically explain problems with another. Before deciding that a reported incident applies to you, note where you are using Gemini and compare that with Google’s incident description.
- Gemini Web: Gemini accessed in a web browser.
- Gemini App: Gemini used in the mobile app.
- Workspace integration: A Gemini feature in a Workspace app, such as the Gemini Side Panel.
- Model or feature: If the interface identifies a particular model or feature, note it. An incident may affect a particular model rather than all Gemini use.
- Error: Compare the exact wording, such as “Something Went Wrong,” with the incident description.
- Account type: A personal account and a Workspace account may not use the same product surface or support route.
Google’s incident history illustrates why these details matter. On September 11, 2026, Google recorded intermittent elevated error rates for Gemini 3.1 Pro on Gemini Web and Gemini App. The dashboard lists that incident as lasting 7 hours and 22 minutes and says a recent rollout triggered it; Google mitigated it with a code change. This was one specific incident, not a typical outage duration.
Another example is Google’s June 10, 2026 incident for errors affecting Gemini App in Workspace and Gemini Side Panel customers. The incident named “Something Went Wrong” errors and listed a duration of 7 hours and 10 minutes. Its description said there was no workaround at that time. That duration and limitation applied to that event only, not to Gemini outages in general.
These examples show why matching the affected service, model, and symptom is more useful than seeing the word “Gemini” in a notice and assuming every Gemini product is affected. Google’s published incident records do not establish an average outage duration or a general recovery-time estimate. Do not use either example to predict when a future problem will end.

When the status page does not show a matching incident, use comparisons that change one variable at a time. Start by writing down the failing setup: account, product surface, model or feature, device, browser or app, network, exact error and time. Then change one element while keeping the others as close as possible. This makes the result easier to interpret than a series of simultaneous changes.
The goal is not to prove a particular technical fault. The goal is to determine whether the failure follows Gemini across independent environments or follows one part of your setup. These are diagnostic inferences, not Google-documented fixes guaranteed to resolve Gemini.
1. Try the same account on another device
Use the same account and, if possible, the same Gemini surface on a second device. If Gemini works there but not on your usual device, the problem is more likely tied to the original device, browser or app than to a general outage. Note exactly what changed and what remained constant.

If the same error appears on both devices, a local fault on only the first device becomes less likely. That result still does not prove a broad service outage: an account-specific issue, a feature-specific incident or an unreported service problem remains possible. Record the result rather than treating it as a final diagnosis.
2. Try the same device on another network
Compare your usual connection with another available network while keeping the device, account and Gemini surface the same. If Gemini works on the alternate network, the original network or its connection path becomes a more plausible cause. If it fails on both networks, the network comparison has not isolated the problem.
This test does not identify the precise network fault, and it does not establish that Google’s service is healthy. It only shows whether changing the network changes the observed result. Write down which network succeeded, which failed and the time of each attempt.
3. Compare browsers or the app
If you are using Gemini Web, try another browser on the same device if one is available. If an app and a browser provide access to the same relevant feature, compare those surfaces while keeping the account and network constant. If Gemini works in another browser or in the app but not in your usual browser, the problem is more likely isolated to that browser or its setup.
If the failure appears in both a browser and the app, that does not prove a broad outage. The same account, model or feature may be affected in both places, or the problem may not yet be listed. Keep the exact error and surface in your notes.
4. Repeat the test after a short interval
A single failed request can coincide with a temporary condition, and a new service issue may not be reflected immediately on the dashboard. Repeat the same test after a short interval and note whether the error persists, disappears or changes. Do not interpret one successful retry as proof that the service is fully healthy or that your setup caused the original failure.
Use the comparison results as evidence, not certainty
| What you observe | What it suggests | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| A current Google incident matches your Gemini surface and error | A Google-side service problem is likely. | Read the incident scope and updates. Avoid repeatedly changing local settings while the notice matches your symptoms. |
| Gemini fails on one device but works on another with the same account | The problem is more likely local to the first device, browser or app. | Compare browser versus app, or another browser on the affected device, if available. |
| Gemini fails on your usual network but works on another network | The issue is more likely related to the original network or connection path. | Record which network works and which fails; this comparison does not identify a specific fault. |
| Gemini fails across separate devices and networks, with no matching status notice | A service issue that is not yet listed, or an account-specific issue, remains possible. | Check the dashboard again, record the error and context, and use the applicable support route. |
| A Workspace integration fails while another Gemini surface works | The affected Workspace feature may have a separate issue. | Check incident details for the exact integration, such as Gemini Side Panel. |
| One model fails while another feature or model works | The problem may be limited to that model or feature. | Compare the model and feature named in Google’s incident record, if any. |
| The result changes between repeated tests | The condition may be intermittent or newly developing. | Record times, errors and surfaces, then recheck the status page. |
Follow the result that best fits your situation
If Google lists a matching active incident
Treat the issue as service-side while the incident remains active. Confirm that the notice covers your product surface and symptom, then follow its updates. Since Google is reporting a service issue, repeated changes to your device or browser are unlikely to clarify the cause. Once Google posts a resolution, try the affected feature again and note whether your exact error has stopped.
If the incident covers only a particular model or integration, do not assume that every Gemini response failure is explained by it. Compare your model, surface and wording with the record. A partial incident can coexist with a separate problem in another Gemini surface.
If the dashboard is clear and only one setup fails
Use the comparisons above to narrow the problem to the device, browser, app or network that differs. Keep track of the exact test that succeeded or failed. A result that follows one browser or network is a useful clue, but it does not prove the underlying cause or rule out a simultaneous service issue.

If the failure follows your account across setups
If the same account encounters the problem on different devices and networks, a local device fault is less likely. That pattern can still fit an unreported service issue or an account-specific problem. Recheck the status page and capture the details needed to explain the pattern before seeking help.
Be careful when comparing accounts. A test with a different account changes an important variable and may use a different entitlement, account type or Workspace context. It can show that the service is reachable for someone else, but it does not by itself explain why your account fails.
If a Workspace feature is affected
Check whether Google’s incident record names the specific Workspace integration, rather than relying on a report about another Gemini surface. The June 10, 2026 record, for example, referred specifically to Gemini App in Workspace and Gemini Side Panel customers and described “Something Went Wrong” errors. A consumer Gemini Web incident is not automatically the same problem.

If the issue persists, Google’s Workspace guidance directs users to contact Workspace support to report an issue with a Workspace service. Include the Workspace surface, account context, exact error, time, model or feature and the cross-checks you performed.
Record useful details if the cause remains unclear
A concise record makes it easier to describe a persistent problem to support and to compare it with later status updates. Capture the information while the error is visible:
- The exact error wording, including capitalization if possible.
- The date and time you saw it, including your time zone.
- Which product surface failed: Gemini Web, Gemini App or a Workspace feature such as the Side Panel.
- The model or feature involved, if the interface identifies one.
- Your account type, such as a personal account or a Workspace account.
- The device and browser or app used.
- The network used and whether the same test worked on a different network.
- Which cross-checks succeeded or failed, including whether another device with the same account worked.
- The status-page wording and whether it listed an active, mitigated or resolved incident.
- The time of each comparison, so intermittent behavior is distinguishable from a persistent failure.
For a Workspace service issue, use Workspace support when appropriate. For other cases, the collected details help distinguish a repeated product problem from a failure isolated to one setup. Do not assume a particular troubleshooting action is an official Gemini fix unless Google documents it for that issue.
Common mistakes when checking whether Gemini is down
Assuming a blank dashboard proves everything works
A clear status view means that Google has not listed a matching incident there at the time you checked. It does not prove that every consumer feature, model, account type or geographic region is unaffected. A new or narrowly scoped problem may not yet appear.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Calling every Gemini error a total outage
Google may report elevated error rates for one model or surface while other Gemini functions remain available. Match the product, model and symptom before describing the problem as an outage.
Using an incident duration as a prediction
The September 11, 2026 incident lasted 7 hours and 22 minutes, and the June 10, 2026 incident lasted 7 hours and 10 minutes. Those are event-specific records. No general outage-frequency or average-recovery statistics were established, so they cannot predict the duration of a future incident.
Changing several variables at once
Switching accounts, devices, browsers and networks together may produce a successful result but leaves the cause unknown. Change one variable at a time where possible and write down what changed.

Applying advice meant for another Google service
Google’s Gmail Help, for example, says to restart a device for a Gmail “No connection” error. That is Gmail-specific advice and should not be presented as an official Gemini fix. Use Gemini-specific incident information and support guidance instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What a status page can—and cannot—tell you
The dashboard is an official source for the services and incidents it lists. It can show whether Google has reported an issue and provide scope, symptoms, updates and resolution information. It cannot establish from a blank status view alone that every Gemini feature, model, user or location is unaffected.
A matching status notice is strongest when all comparison axes line up: the status-page signal, product surface, model or feature, account type, device/browser/app and network. A problem limited to one browser, device, app or network points more toward that part of your setup. A problem that follows the same account across independent devices and networks leaves an unreported service issue or account-specific issue plausible.
When neither pattern is decisive, preserve the error details and treat the cause as unresolved rather than guessing. Recheck the official dashboard, watch for an incident update and use the relevant Workspace support route when the affected service is a Workspace feature.

Is Gemini down right now?
Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard for an active Gemini incident and read its scope. A dashboard with no matching incident is not proof that every Gemini component is working, so compare another device, browser or network if the problem continues.
What is the fastest way to tell whether Gemini or my device is at fault?
First compare your error with Google’s current incident record. If there is no matching notice, use the same account on another device and the same device on another network, changing one variable at a time. A failure isolated to one setup points more toward that setup; a failure across independent setups leaves a service or account issue possible.
Does a Google incident mean every Gemini user is affected?
No. Google may identify a particular surface, model, Workspace integration, symptom or group of users. Read the incident details and match them to your experience instead of assuming that every Gemini product is unavailable.
What does “Something Went Wrong” mean?
It is a generic error wording that appeared in Google’s June 10, 2026 incident for Gemini App in Workspace and Gemini Side Panel customers. The wording alone does not prove that the same incident affects your account; compare the surface, date and current incident scope.
How long do Gemini outages usually last?
The available incident records do not establish a typical duration or average recovery time. One September 11, 2026 incident lasted 7 hours and 22 minutes, while a June 10, 2026 incident lasted 7 hours and 10 minutes. Both figures describe those individual events only.

Why does Gemini work on my phone but not my computer?
That pattern makes the computer, its browser or its network more plausible than a general outage, especially if the same account works on the phone. It is still a diagnostic clue rather than proof; compare the network and product surface and check Google’s status page.
Why does Gemini fail on every device I try?
If the same account fails across separate devices and networks, a local device problem is less likely. An unreported service issue or account-specific problem remains possible. Record the exact error, surfaces, models, times and networks, then recheck the dashboard and use the applicable support route.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gemini down right now?
Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard for an active incident and match its scope to your Gemini surface and error. If no incident matches, compare another device, browser or network; a clear dashboard does not prove every Gemini component is working.
How can I tell whether the problem is my device?
Use the same account on another device, then compare the same device on another network or browser. If the failure stays with one setup, that setup is more likely involved; if it follows the account across independent setups, a service or account issue remains possible.
How long do Gemini outages last?
Google’s published examples are event-specific, not an average: one September 11, 2026 incident lasted 7 hours and 22 minutes, and one June 10, 2026 incident lasted 7 hours and 10 minutes.

The Bottom Line
Start with Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard, match any incident to your Gemini surface, model and error, then compare the same account across devices, browsers and networks. A matching incident strongly indicates a Google-side problem; a failure isolated to one setup points more toward that setup. When the evidence is mixed, record the exact context, recheck the dashboard and avoid claiming certainty.
