The most reliable way to confirm a bonus-share credit is to open your demat transaction statement or the holdings record provided by your depository participant (DP). Find the company’s credit entry, verify the quantity, and compare it with the allotment advice issued by the company or its Registrar and Transfer Agent (RTA). The two quantities should match. Your broker’s portfolio screen is useful for display and trading status, but it can update later than the underlying demat account.
If the demat statement contains the credit but the broker app does not, that usually indicates a platform-display delay rather than a missing allotment. If there is no depository credit, or the quantity differs from the advice, contact both the DP or broker and the company/RTA with the issue details and supporting records.
Which record proves that the shares were credited?
Bonus shares pass through the depository system into your demat account. A broker’s app or trading terminal is a separate display layer. Use each record for the question it can actually answer:

| Issuer or RTA allotment advice | The quantity advised for your bonus entitlement | Reconcile this quantity with the demat statement. |
| Broker app or trading terminal | Whether the broker platform has reflected the credit for viewing or trading | Use it after checking the demat record; a delayed display does not by itself prove a failed credit. |
NSDL’s investor FAQ states that “The quantity shown in the advice and account statement should match.” The advice comes from the issuer or its RTA, while the account statement is maintained through your DP. You can read the guidance in the NSDL FAQ and the NSDL Investor Guide.

What each record can and cannot tell you
The allotment advice is the issuer-side statement of what was allocated to you. It does not replace the demat transaction statement, because only the account record shows whether the securities actually entered your account. Conversely, an app banner or portfolio value is not proof of a depository credit: it may reflect a corporate-action adjustment before the underlying entry is visible.
The transaction statement is therefore the decisive account-level record. A holdings page can be a useful second check, but it may show only the current balance and not the date or nature of the movement. When investigating a discrepancy, download the activity statement that identifies the credit rather than relying on a valuation total.
The broker terminal answers a narrower question: whether the broker has imported, displayed and, where applicable, enabled the position for trading. A credit can be complete in the demat account while that workflow is still pending.

1. Identify the exact corporate action
Start with the company’s official notice or exchange filing. Confirm the bonus ratio, record date or book-closure date, and any stated allotment or credit schedule. The NSDL corporate-actions guidance explains why the holdings on the relevant record date matter. Do not estimate your entitlement from a share-price adjustment alone; use the issue notice and the issuer/RTA’s advice.
Record the company name, security name and ISIN if available. The ISIN is particularly useful when a company has more than one security or when a corporate action uses a temporary security identifier.
2. Work out the expected entitlement from the notice
Use the ratio stated in the notice and the settled quantity that was eligible on the record date or during book closure. Keep the calculation tied to the specific issue: a later price movement, an order you placed, or a different security does not establish your personal entitlement. If the notice or advice is unclear about fractional treatment, security identification or the relevant balance, ask the issuer or RTA rather than guessing.
3. Open your official demat access
Sign in to the portal or app supplied by your DP or the relevant depository. If your account is with CDSL, its Easi service allows registered beneficial owners to view holdings and transactions online. Other DPs provide their own statement download or transaction-history function.
Choose the demat account record rather than a page showing only portfolio value, market price or profit and loss. Those portfolio figures can change while a corporate action is still being processed.

4. Open the transaction or activity statement
Use the date range covering the expected credit and search for the company, security description or ISIN. A transaction statement should show the credit entry, the quantity and the transaction date. If your provider offers both a holdings statement and a transaction statement, check the transaction statement first because it shows the movement into the account.
Search nearby dates as well as the date in the issuer’s notice. The issuer’s processing date, depository posting date and broker display date can differ. If the security appears under a temporary or replacement ISIN, search that identifier and review the transaction description instead of searching only the familiar trading symbol.
Save or download the statement showing the entry. Keep the complete page or file, not only a cropped screenshot, so the account identifier, date and security details remain visible if you need to raise a query.
5. Compare the quantity with the allotment advice
Open the advice sent by the company or RTA and compare its advised quantity with the credit quantity in the demat statement. Also compare the company name, security and relevant issue date. A matching advice and statement support that the bonus shares were credited correctly, even if the broker’s app has not refreshed.
NSDL specifically recommends checking the advice against the demat account statement. If you cannot find the advice, look in the issuer’s investor-relations communications or contact the RTA; do not treat a missing email as proof that no shares were allotted.
6. Check the broker’s holdings display separately
After confirming the depository entry, open the broker’s holdings or portfolio page and look for the company. The broker may update its internal display after the depository has posted the credit. One broker’s published guidance says corporate-action credits can take one working day to appear on its trading platform after the demat credit; that is broker-specific guidance, not a universal market deadline. See the broker’s corporate-action credit explanation for that example.
If the statement shows the shares and the app does not, note the broker’s stated display interval and ask support to refresh or investigate after that interval. Do not sell or place an order solely because a temporary portfolio screen appears to show no holding.

7. Check whether the shares are enabled for trading
A credit can be visible in the demat account before the shares become tradable in the broker terminal. Broker guidance for bonus shares notes that a temporary or interim ISIN and the exchange’s trading approval can affect when the position appears for trading. These are issue- and broker-specific mechanics. The bonus-share display guidance describes this distinction.
8. Preserve the evidence
Keep the allotment advice, the transaction statement showing the credit, the original issue notice and any support tickets. Note the date and time you checked, the credited quantity and the account or security reference. This makes it easier for the DP, broker and RTA to trace a mismatch without asking you to reconstruct the event.
The usual sequence from record date to trading screen
- Eligibility is fixed: the issuer and RTA identify eligible beneficial owners using the relevant record-date or book-closure holdings.
- The allotment is advised: the company or RTA sends the advised quantity and issue details.
- The depository entry is posted: the credit appears in the DP or depository transaction statement.
- The broker imports the event: the app updates its holdings and may map a temporary identifier to the tradable security after the necessary approval.
These stages explain why an email, a demat credit and a visible trading position may carry different dates. Ask support which stage is pending instead of reporting only that the shares are missing.
Eligibility and timing: why record dates matter
Eligibility is based on the relevant holdings date
CDSL’s corporate-action explanation says that credit depends on the eligible beneficial-owner balance on the record date or during book closure, together with the issuer/RTA’s corporate-action instructions. The relevant balance is the settled holding recorded for that date, not simply an order you placed or a price adjustment visible in your app. Read the issue’s official notice for the exact eligibility rule.

Settlement status can therefore affect eligibility. The CDSL corporate-action FAQ provides the depository’s explanation of these processes.
There is no universal number of days for every issue
Companies, RTAs, depositories and brokers can have different processing steps. The guidance does not establish one market-wide number of days by which every company’s bonus shares must appear. A broker’s one-working-day display example applies to that broker’s platform and should not be used as a guarantee for another broker or for the depository credit itself.
Use the issuer’s notice and RTA communication for the issue-specific schedule. If that schedule has passed without a depository entry, ask the DP and issuer/RTA for the status rather than applying a generic delay estimate.

How to handle a missing or incorrect credit
When only the broker display is missing
Send the broker the company name, security or ISIN, record date, credit date shown by the depository and the quantity in the statement. Ask whether the position is waiting for an internal corporate-action update, a temporary-ISIN conversion or trading approval. Attach the relevant statement page and advice, while redacting passwords, PINs and unrelated account information.
When the depository statement has no entry
First verify that you were eligible on the record or book-closure date and that the original holding was settled into your demat account. Then ask the DP or broker to trace the corporate-action instruction and ask the issuer/RTA to confirm the allotment status. Include the company, issue ratio, record date, expected quantity and your demat account reference.
When the quantities conflict
Check the exact issue notice, ratio and security identifier again. Make sure you are comparing the same issue and date, not a later adjustment or a different class of security. Preserve both records and request a written reconciliation from the DP/broker and issuer/RTA. NSDL identifies the issuer or RTA as the source of the allotment advice, while account-entry concerns can be raised with the DP or depository.

- Company name and security name or ISIN.
- Bonus ratio stated in the official notice.
- Record date or book-closure date.
- Quantity you held or were advised, and quantity actually credited, if any.
- Date shown on the demat transaction entry.
- Name of your DP or broker and the account reference requested by its support process.
- Copies of the allotment advice and transaction statement, with sensitive credentials removed.
- A precise description of the problem: absent depository credit, quantity mismatch, or broker-display delay.
Ask each party to identify which step is pending: issuer/RTA allotment, depository credit, broker display, or trading approval. That distinction is more useful than reporting only that the shares are “not visible.”
Common mistakes to avoid
- Checking only the portfolio screen: A broker terminal can lag behind the demat record.
- Treating a price adjustment as proof of allotment: An adjusted market price does not establish your individual credited quantity.
- Applying another issue’s timetable: Corporate-action processing and trading approval vary by issue and provider.
- Ignoring settlement: An unsettled purchase or a holding still in a broker pool account can affect record-date eligibility.
- Using the wrong security identifier: Temporary or replacement ISINs can make a credited position appear under a different description during processing.
- Discarding the original records: Advice and dated statements are the evidence needed to reconcile a dispute.
A concise verification checklist
- Read the issuer or exchange notice and note the ratio and record date.
- Confirm that your holding was eligible and settled by the relevant date.
- Open the DP or depository transaction statement.
- Find the company or ISIN and record the credit date and quantity.
- Compare that quantity with the issuer/RTA allotment advice.
- Check the broker app only as a separate display and trading-status check.
- If records disagree or the issue schedule has passed, escalate with the documents and details listed above.
For a statement-based confirmation, the decisive evidence is the matching demat credit and allotment advice. The broker screen answers a different question—whether its own platform has processed and displayed that credit.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fastest way to confirm bonus shares were credited?
Open the demat transaction statement, search for the company or ISIN, and verify a credit entry with a quantity and date. Match that quantity with the issuer or RTA allotment advice. The broker app is a secondary display check.
Why are bonus shares in my demat statement but not in my broker app?
The broker platform may not have refreshed after the depository posted the credit. Broker guidance can specify a display interval; one broker cites one working day for its platform. That timing is not a universal deadline.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does an adjusted share price prove that I received bonus shares?
No. A price or portfolio adjustment does not establish your individual entitlement or account credit. Confirm the record-date eligibility, allotment advice and demat transaction entry.
How do I know whether I was eligible?
Check the issuer’s official notice for the record date or book-closure rule and confirm that the eligible holding was settled into your demat account. Securities still in a broker pool account or unsettled purchases can affect eligibility.
What should I do if the quantity in the advice and statement differs?
Recheck the issue ratio, record date, company, security identifier and dates. Preserve both records and raise the mismatch with your DP or broker and the issuer/RTA, requesting a written reconciliation.
What if an unfamiliar credit or debit appears in the statement?
Verify the transaction details and report an unauthorized entry promptly to your DP or the relevant depository. Keep the complete statement and any related communications.
