The most reliable way to tell whether AT&T has restored your particular service is to open AT&T’s outage portal, sign in or enter the account or address information it requests, and read the status for that service. A regional storm update, a neighbor’s connection, or a wireless-network recovery percentage does not prove that your home internet, landline, or TV service is working.

If the outage is still listed, select Get text updates now to receive a message when that current outage is over. If no outage appears but your connection remains down, restart the AT&T gateway or modem, then contact AT&T through its website, the myAT&T app, or 800-288-2020 if service does not return.

Check your address in AT&T’s outage portal

Start with AT&T’s Service Outage Information portal. It is the first place to check because it evaluates the service associated with your account or location rather than relying on a general storm announcement.

  1. Open the outage portal.
  2. Sign in when prompted, or provide the account, phone number, ZIP code, address, or other information AT&T requests.
  3. Review the result for the affected service. Note whether AT&T reports an active outage, restoration in progress, or no known outage.
  4. Refresh the page later if the result still shows an active interruption. Storm repairs can change by location as crews restore individual lines and equipment.

The portal’s result is location- and service-specific. It is more meaningful for your home connection than a statement that a city, state, or wireless network is broadly recovering.

What the portal can and cannot tell you

  • An active outage entry confirms that AT&T has associated an interruption with the account or address. It does not necessarily provide a guaranteed repair time.
  • A restoration message indicates AT&T considers the listed outage resolved, but you should still test your equipment and the services you use.
  • No outage listed is not conclusive proof that the line has been repaired. AT&T treats that result as a reason to try local troubleshooting or contact support if the problem continues.

An outage page can also change as AT&T updates its records. A status that says an outage is active in the morning may disappear before the physical equipment at your home has reconnected, while a newly identified local problem may appear after you first check. Write down the date and time of each result so you can describe the sequence accurately.

Request a restoration text for the current outage

When the portal shows an active internet outage, sign in at att.com/outages and choose Get text updates now. AT&T says it will send an alert when that current outage is over. For wireline customers recovering from a storm, AT&T also directs customers to the portal for one-time restoration texts.

The alert has an important limit: AT&T says, “You’ll only get alerts for this outage, not future ones.” If another outage occurs later, request a new alert from the portal rather than assuming the earlier subscription remains active. The text is a notification about AT&T’s outage record; it is still sensible to test your own connection after receiving it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you cannot sign in or the portal requests information you do not have, use the other listed support routes rather than guessing. The alert feature is useful only after AT&T can match the current outage to your account or service address.

Use the portal when you need the clearest address-level outage result or a one-time restoration message. Smart Home Manager can be a convenient second route, but AT&T’s cited instructions do not establish that it displays the same fields or sends the same alert. If the two views appear different, record what each one says and use att.com, the myAT&T app, or 800-288-2020 for clarification.

Do not confuse a storm recovery bulletin with home restoration

AT&T’s storm page, “AT&T Prepares for Isaias”, was updated October 11, 2026, at 1:50 p.m. CT. AT&T reported that restoration progress in the hardest-hit areas had improved 80% over the preceding 24 hours. It also reported wireless operation at more than 99% of normal in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi, and normal wireless operation in Georgia and Louisiana.

Those are dated, company-reported regional figures, not a live test of your address. The same update warned: “Some customers in affected areas may still be experiencing home phone and internet service interruptions due to storm damage and commercial power outages.” A wireless tower can be operating normally while a damaged residential cable, fiber connection, local cabinet, or commercial power feed remains unavailable.

The 80% figure describes improvement in restoration progress, not 80% of every household being back online. Likewise, “more than 99% of normal” describes wireless network operation in the named states; it does not describe home internet, home phone, or television availability. The statement about normal operation in Georgia and Louisiana is also a regional wireless statement, not an address-level guarantee.

Use a storm bulletin to understand the broad recovery context, then use the outage portal and an actual connection test to determine whether your service has returned. Always attach the update’s date, time, geography, and service type to any conclusion you draw from it. Conditions can change after the bulletin is posted.

If no outage is listed but your internet is still down

AT&T’s outage guidance recommends restarting the gateway or modem when the portal does not show an outage. This can clear a stuck connection after the network has been repaired, but it is not itself confirmation that AT&T completed storm work.

  1. Locate the AT&T gateway or modem that supplies your internet connection.
  2. Unplug its power cable.
  3. Wait at least 20 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and allow the equipment to restart fully.
  5. Wait up to five minutes before deciding whether the connection has returned.
  6. Connect a device and test a few ordinary websites or the service that originally failed.

AT&T cautions that restarting can affect phone or television services that depend on the internet. Avoid repeatedly unplugging the equipment while it is booting; one complete restart gives the gateway time to reestablish its network session. If the gateway has not finished restarting after five minutes, allow it to complete before drawing conclusions from a single failed page load.

Check the result after the restart

  • Internet works again: The outage may have cleared while your gateway needed to reconnect. Keep the restoration text or portal result for your records if you need to explain the interruption.
  • Internet remains down and the portal now shows an outage: Follow the outage entry and request the current-outage text alert.
  • Internet remains down and no outage is shown: Contact AT&T through its listed support channels so the company can investigate a line, gateway, account, or unreported local fault.
  • Internet works but phone or TV does not: Test those services separately and tell support which service failed; a broadband recovery does not establish that every dependent service is operating.
  • Only some devices reconnect: Note which devices work and which do not, then report that distinction. It helps separate a service-status question from a problem affecting one connection path.

A successful restart proves only that your gateway reconnected at that moment. It does not establish how AT&T repaired the storm damage or guarantee that the connection will remain stable. If the service drops again, check the portal again because the account status may have changed.

How to verify each service after the outage clears

Do not stop after one web page loads. If your account includes multiple AT&T services, check them individually because a storm can affect the access path or power conditions differently.

  • Internet: Connect a device and open several ordinary websites. If possible, check both a wired connection and Wi-Fi, and note whether the failure affects all devices or only one.
  • Home phone: Place a test call after the gateway or related equipment has restarted. Report a dead line, inability to dial, or one-way audio separately from an internet issue.
  • Television: Turn on the service and test a channel or other normal function. Internet-dependent television may return later than broadband or may need its own restart.

These checks are not a substitute for AT&T’s outage record. They are confirmation that the service you actually use is working at your property. If one service remains unavailable, tell AT&T exactly which one rather than describing the entire account as restored.

Contact AT&T when the service does not return

After checking the portal and completing the recommended restart, use one of AT&T’s listed channels:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Have the service address, account information, the time you first noticed the interruption, and the result of the gateway restart available. Tell the representative whether the portal showed an outage, whether it later disappeared, and whether the failure affects internet, home phone, television, or more than one service. These details help distinguish a still-open storm repair from a problem that needs an individual service check.

If you received a restoration text, mention the time it arrived and whether the service actually worked afterward. If no text arrived, do not treat that alone as proof that the outage remains open; verify the current portal status and explain the discrepancy to support. Similarly, a portal that says “no outage” does not eliminate the need to report a continuing failure.

Use this decision path after a storm

  1. Need the current status? Open the outage portal and check the account or address.
  2. Is an outage active? Select Get text updates now if you want an alert when that outage ends.
  3. Does the portal show no outage? Restart the gateway or modem: unplug it for 20 seconds, reconnect it, and allow up to five minutes.
  4. Does service return? Test every affected service separately.
  5. Is service still unavailable? Use att.com, myAT&T, or 800-288-2020. Do not treat a general storm update as proof that your address is restored.
  6. Does service fail again? Recheck the portal, record the new time, and report the repeated interruption with the earlier troubleshooting result.

Why restoration times vary

The cited AT&T support and storm materials do not provide a universal deadline for repairing a storm-damaged line or address. Restoration depends on the local damage, access for crews, commercial power, and the particular service path serving your property. Consequently, a broad “restoration soon” statement cannot be converted into a reliable appointment time for one household.

For the same reason, the October 11, 2026 figures should be read with their date, geography, and service type attached: the more-than-99%-normal figure applies to wireless operation in three named states, while the warning about continuing interruptions concerns home phone and internet customers in affected areas. Neither figure replaces an address-level check.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Commercial power is especially important in the storm update. Even if AT&T equipment has been repaired, a continuing power interruption can keep home phone or internet service unavailable. Conversely, power at your house can be restored while a damaged line or neighborhood equipment remains out. The portal and a service test are the only practical combination for checking your specific situation.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Relying only on a state-level update: Regional percentages describe network conditions across a large area, not your individual line.
  • Assuming a missing outage means the repair is complete: It may instead mean that AT&T has no outage entry for your account, so troubleshoot and contact support if the connection remains down.
  • Expecting future alerts: The text option covers the current outage only. Request it again for a later incident.
  • Rebooting too quickly: AT&T says to wait 20 seconds before reconnecting and up to five minutes for the restart to finish.
  • Testing only one service: Internet, home phone, and television can have different symptoms after a storm or power interruption.
  • Treating a neighbor’s working service as proof: Nearby homes can be served by different equipment or have different commercial-power conditions.
  • Reading a dated bulletin as a live dashboard: The October 11 figures describe conditions at that update’s time, not the status at every later moment.
  • Assuming a text message replaces testing: A restoration alert reflects the current outage record; confirm that your own equipment and services work.

What to record while you wait

Keep a simple timeline with the outage start time, portal messages, text alerts, equipment restart time, and the moment each service comes back. Record whether the gateway’s status lights change and whether the issue affects wired devices, Wi-Fi devices, or both. This information does not accelerate a storm repair, but it gives AT&T a precise history if the portal clears while your service remains unusable.

Take a fresh portal screenshot or note the displayed status after a significant update. Because outage information can change, include the date and time of each note rather than relying on memory. Save the text alert, if any, and note whether it arrived before or after the connection returned.

When contacting support, a concise timeline is more useful than a general statement that service has been down “since the storm.” Include the address, affected services, first observed failure, portal result, restart time, and test result. If the issue is intermittent, record both the return and the next failure.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know if my internet outage is fixed?

Check the outage result for your account or address at att.com/outages, then test your own connection. If the outage is active, choose Get text updates now for an alert when that current outage ends. A message or cleared status should be followed by a gateway restart if needed and an actual internet test.

What if I am not in an outage area?

If AT&T lists no outage but your internet still does not work, restart the gateway or modem by unplugging it for at least 20 seconds, reconnecting it, and allowing up to five minutes. If service remains unavailable, use att.com, the myAT&T app, or 800-288-2020. “No outage” is not a guarantee that your individual line, gateway, account, or local fault is working.

Does the restoration text cover future storms?

No. AT&T says the alert applies only to the current outage, not future ones. Request a new alert from the portal if another outage occurs.

Is Smart Home Manager the same as the outage portal?

AT&T identifies Smart Home Manager as another way to check outages, but the cited support material does not establish that it shows the same status fields or provides the same one-time restoration text. Use the outage portal when you need the clearest address-level status or an alert.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does AT&T’s wireless recovery percentage prove my home internet is back?

No. The October 11, 2026 storm update reported wireless operation at more than 99% of normal in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi and normal operation in Georgia and Louisiana. Those are dated regional wireless statements. AT&T also warned that some home phone and internet customers could still be interrupted by storm damage and commercial power outages.

Is there a guaranteed repair time?

The cited AT&T materials do not provide a universal deadline for a specific storm-damaged line or address. Check the current portal status and contact AT&T if your service does not return.

What if internet returns but my phone or TV does not?

Test each service separately and tell AT&T which one remains unavailable. A broadband recovery does not prove that every service using the connection or affected equipment has recovered.

Should I keep restarting the gateway?

Use AT&T’s stated procedure once: unplug it for at least 20 seconds, reconnect it, and allow up to five minutes to restart. Repeatedly unplugging it during startup can make it harder to tell whether the equipment has completed its reconnection. If service still fails, contact AT&T.

Bottom line: use address status, then test

Check AT&T’s outage portal first, request the one-time text alert for the active outage, and verify recovery by testing your own connection. If no outage is listed, restart the gateway or modem using AT&T’s 20-second unplug procedure and allow up to five minutes. If service still fails, contact AT&T through att.com, myAT&T, or 800-288-2020; no regional storm bulletin can guarantee that your specific home service has been restored.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if my AT&T internet outage is fixed?
