An RTX 5070 gaming laptop has enough RAM and storage only if its specific configuration meets the requirements of the games you want to run and install. The GPU name does not tell you either figure: NVIDIA lists 8 GB of GDDR7 memory for the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, while system RAM and SSD capacity depend on the laptop model and configuration. Check those separately, then compare them with current game requirements.
Keep GPU memory separate from system RAM
The RTX 5070 Laptop GPU’s listed 8 GB of GDDR7 is dedicated graphics memory, often called VRAM. It is not the laptop’s system RAM. A laptop can have that GPU and still come with different amounts of system memory and SSD storage, depending on its exact configuration. NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 Series laptop specifications list the GPU memory; the laptop maker’s specifications list the installed RAM and drive.
When a game lists a RAM requirement, compare it with the laptop’s system RAM—not the GPU’s VRAM. When it lists storage space, compare it with available SSD capacity.

- Identify the complete model and SKU. Check the product label, order details, or Windows system information. A model family can include configurations with different memory and drives, and specifications may vary by market.
- Check the manufacturer’s specification for that configuration. Look for installed system memory (RAM) and SSD capacity. Do not treat a manufacturer’s maximum supported capacity as the amount already installed.
- Check what is currently free. In Windows, open Settings > System > Storage to see drive usage and available space. The free-space figure is what matters when deciding whether you can install more games now.
Manufacturer examples show why the exact configuration matters. HP lists up to 32 GB DDR5 and up to a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD for its OMEN 16 2025 League of Legends edition. GIGABYTE lists up to 64 GB DDR5 and up to 4 TB NVMe M.2 storage for the GAMING A18 GA83H, noting that storage capacity can differ by country or region. These are model-specific specifications, not standards for every RTX 5070 laptop.

Compare system RAM with the games you play
Use each game’s current recommended RAM requirement as your comparison point where one is published. Recommended figures are a game’s stated target; they do not include every browser tab, chat app, launcher, or other program you might keep open at the same time.

For example, a laptop with 16 GB of system RAM matches the published recommended figure for Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 in those listings. That comparison alone does not establish how well a game will run, or how much memory other open applications will use. Check the current requirement for each game you care about before buying or installing it.

Work out whether the SSD has enough room
Add the listed storage needs for the games you want installed at the same time. The three examples above total 348 GB (150 + 70 + 128 GB), before accounting for Windows, other applications, saves, or updates. Black Ops 6’s listing says mandatory updates may require additional space, so its launch figure is not a guarantee of the space needed for a later installation or update.
- Write down the current listed storage requirement for each intended game.
- Add the figures for the games you plan to keep installed together.
- Compare that total with the SSD’s free space, not just its advertised capacity.
- Leave additional room for Windows, other software, and game updates; requirements can change, so recheck the current game listing.
A 1 TB SSD does not provide a full terabyte of free space for games: the operating system, installed programs, and other files also occupy the drive. Likewise, a game’s listed storage figure is not a promise that future patches will fit without extra room.

Check whether you can add or replace memory or storage
Upgrade options depend on the exact laptop, not its RTX 5070 GPU. Read the manufacturer’s specifications or service manual for supported memory type and capacity, available M.2 slots, drive size and interface, and whether RAM is replaceable. Verify the exact regional SKU before buying components.
For example, ASUS describes its 2026 TUF Gaming F16 as having “User-upgradeable dual RAM and SSD storage slots.” GIGABYTE lists two M.2 slots for its A18 GA83H. Those examples describe those models only; they do not establish that another RTX 5070 laptop has the same slots or supports the same drives.

- If the SSD is too small: check whether the laptop has an unused supported M.2 slot or whether its existing drive can be replaced.
- If the RAM is below your target: confirm that the memory is upgradeable and that the laptop supports the capacity and type you intend to install.
- If the specifications are unclear: use the exact SKU’s manual or ask the manufacturer to confirm compatibility before purchasing an upgrade.
A quick configuration check before buying
- Record the laptop’s exact model and SKU, plus its installed system RAM and SSD capacity.
- Compare system RAM with the recommended figures for your games; do not count GPU VRAM as system RAM.
- Add the storage needs for the games you expect to keep installed and compare the sum with current free SSD space.
- Allow for the operating system, applications, and updates beyond the listed game requirements.
- Confirm supported RAM and SSD upgrades for the exact SKU if the installed configuration falls short.
