Yes, Ubisoft Connect PC can open in Offline mode, but that does not mean every Ubisoft game can be played without an internet connection. Offline support is decided by the individual game, platform, edition, digital-rights management, account entitlement and connected features. Ubisoft’s terms also warn that some games require a permanent online connection.
To verify a game, identify the exact version you own, read its current official requirements, complete its first launch while online, then test that installed copy with Ubisoft Connect in Offline mode before you travel or lose connectivity. A successful test applies only to that title, platform, edition and software state.
What “offline play” actually means
There are three separate questions that are often treated as one:

- Can the Ubisoft Connect launcher open without internet access?
- Can the game executable start after the launcher opens?
- Can you reach the single-player content you care about without connected services?
Ubisoft Help states, “Please note that Ubisoft Connect PC will launch in Offline mode if you have no internet connection.” That is a launcher capability, not a guarantee that every installed game will pass its own entitlement, DRM or server checks. Ubisoft’s login troubleshooting guidance similarly says that, with no internet connection, Ubisoft Connect launches offline and that some game features and functionalities can be affected.

The Ubisoft Terms of Use 5.0, section 4.5, are broader than the launcher statement: “A high-speed internet connection, an Account and the installation of the Ubisoft Connect client software (http://ubisoftconnect.com) may be required to install, launch, access and unlock all or part of the Content and Services. Please note that some games and features may require a permanent online connection.” The wording “all or part” matters. A game may open offline while multiplayer, progression systems, rewards or a portion of the campaign remains unavailable.
Start with the exact copy you intend to use
Do not check only a franchise name or a generic store listing. Record the combination below, because changing any one item can change the result.

For a boxed console copy, also note whether the disc contains the complete playable program or merely starts a download. A disc that requires a download, patch or account entitlement may not provide a fully usable offline installation. For a cloud version, the answer is normally governed by the streaming service’s connection requirement rather than by the local game files.

Use the game’s current official store page and Ubisoft support documentation for the platform and edition you actually have. Look for these terms in the requirements, technical details, FAQ and legal notices:
- Permanent, persistent or continuous online connection: treat any of these as a warning that offline launch or play may be blocked.
- Internet required: determine whether the statement applies only to installation and activation or to every launch and session.
- Ubisoft account: check whether account ownership or linking is required even for solo content.
- Ubisoft Connect: confirm whether the client must be installed and whether the title starts through it.
- DRM or third-party DRM: identify which service performs the license check and whether it has an offline grace period.
- First-launch activation: assume the first run needs internet unless the documentation explicitly says otherwise.
- Online-only features: separate the campaign from multiplayer, events, news, statistics, challenges, rewards and other server-backed systems.
Do not infer compatibility from the fact that another game in the same series works offline. Requirements can change between editions and platforms, and an update can alter the way a title validates ownership.
Complete the required online setup once
Before testing, prepare the exact installation you will use later. Perform these actions while connected to the internet:

- Install Ubisoft Connect PC and the game. Let the client finish downloading the game and any required components. If the game uses a separate platform launcher, install and link that platform as instructed by the official requirements.
- Sign in to the owning Ubisoft account. Use the account that purchased, redeemed or legitimately receives the entitlement. Signing in to a different account can look like an offline failure when it is actually an ownership mismatch.
- Allow updates to finish. Complete the game update, launcher update and any platform update before testing. Interrupting an update can leave an executable that cannot start without contacting a service.
- Launch the game online. Reach the main menu and, if practical, enter the single-player mode you intend to use. This gives first-launch activation, license checks and required runtime setup an opportunity to complete.
- Create or load a test save. Save progress locally if the game offers a local-save option. Note whether the game displays a cloud-synchronization message; that message tells you what will not occur while disconnected.
- Close the game normally. A clean exit ensures that configuration and save files are written before you remove connectivity.
Do this setup before travel day. A game that has never completed activation may ask for credentials, a code, an update or an entitlement check at the exact moment you are unable to provide internet access.

Put Ubisoft Connect PC into Offline mode and test
Ubisoft Connect can start in Offline mode automatically when it detects no connection. You can also use the account or profile controls in the client to select Offline mode while you are still connected, then disconnect the network. Menu labels can vary by client release, so use the current wording shown in your installation.
- Open Ubisoft Connect PC while online. Confirm that the correct account is displayed and that the target game appears in your library.
- Choose Offline mode from the account/profile controls. Wait for the client to confirm the change rather than simply closing the window.
- Disconnect Wi-Fi and Ethernet. Turn off the computer’s Wi-Fi, unplug Ethernet, or use the operating system’s airplane-mode control. Do not leave another connection, such as a phone hotspot, available if you are trying to simulate a complete outage.
- Start the game from the Ubisoft Connect library. Observe whether the launcher starts the executable, displays a license error, or asks you to reconnect.
- Reach the intended content. Test the actual single-player campaign, saved game or offline mode you plan to use. Reaching only a title screen is not enough evidence.
- Exercise a representative session. Load a save, change a setting, complete a short section and save again. This reveals failures that occur after launch, such as a server check when a profile is loaded.
- Exit and relaunch while still disconnected. A title that starts once from a cached process may still fail on a fresh launch. Test at least one complete close-and-reopen cycle.
Record the result for this exact installation: launches and plays as expected; launches but loses specified features; reaches the menu but not the campaign; or refuses to start. A result is meaningful only when the account, edition, platform and installed software match the copy you will use.
What normally disappears offline
Even when solo content works, connected services can be unavailable. Use the following matrix when deciding whether the game meets your needs.

Offline mode is therefore a usability test, not a promise that every feature remains intact. Decide in advance whether losing statistics, challenges or cloud synchronization is acceptable.

A Ubisoft+ entitlement should not be treated like a permanently owned copy. Ubisoft+ support states: “Please note that you will need an internet connection to launch and play games with Ubisoft+.” The Ubisoft+ Subscription Terms 2.0 require a persistent internet connection for both online and offline play.

That means an offline Ubisoft+ test is not a supported way to prepare a subscription game for a flight or outage. If you need dependable offline access, verify a qualifying purchased license for the exact platform and edition instead; do not assume that installing the same files through a subscription changes the connection requirement. Subscription status, account state and catalog availability can change while you are disconnected, so an earlier successful launch does not override those terms.
What Anno 1800 demonstrates
Ubisoft documents one concrete example: “Anno 1800 will start in offline mode if Ubisoft Connect PC is in offline mode.” The same support article warns that online features are unavailable offline. This illustrates the correct interpretation of an official game-specific statement: it confirms startup behavior for that title and client, while separately limiting connected features.
Use the same standard for any other game. A support article that explicitly documents offline startup is stronger evidence than a forum comment or a general statement that Ubisoft Connect can work without internet. Still check the edition, platform and current software version, because the documented behavior is not automatically transferable to another release.

Ubisoft’s legacy-service notices state that, for most listed older games, online multiplayer, in-game news and player statistics were shut down while “the offline features of the games are unaffected and remain available.” This is useful when evaluating an older title, but it has two limits.
- It applies to the specific games named in the service notice, not to every older Ubisoft release.
- “Offline features remain available” does not restore rewards, statistics, news, multiplayer or any other service that was retired.
For a legacy title, read the current shutdown notice and test the installed copy. Keep installers, patches and required activation information available before disconnecting; a game that still plays offline may be difficult to reinstall later if a required service or store listing is no longer available.

Use the symptom to narrow the cause instead of repeatedly toggling your network.

The launcher opens, but the game reports that it cannot verify ownership
- Reconnect and confirm that you are signed in to the account that owns the license.
- Launch the game online and remain at the main menu long enough for activation and entitlement checks to complete.
- Close the client normally, select Offline mode, disconnect again and retest.
- If the same message returns, treat the title as requiring a connection for that installation unless official documentation says otherwise.
The game reaches the menu but refuses to load a save
- Check whether the save exists only in cloud storage.
- Reconnect, allow synchronization to finish, then create a local test save.
- Disconnect and load that local save. Do not overwrite the only known-good cloud copy until you understand the synchronization behavior.
The campaign works but features are missing
This is expected for server-backed news, statistics, challenges, rewards, multiplayer and cloud services. Record the missing features and decide whether they are essential; do not mistake their absence for a failed offline campaign.
The game worked offline before an update
Repeat the complete online setup after major patches. Updates can change DRM, executable files, account linking or the point at which a server check occurs. A previous result is not a permanent guarantee.
The game worked on one device but not another
Compare the platform, edition, account, installation source and version. A console disc, a PC download and a subscription installation can have different requirements even when their titles are identical.

PC download through Ubisoft Connect
Use the online setup and Offline-mode test described above. Keep the client installed, the game fully patched and the owning account available. If the client itself cannot start, the game cannot be launched through that installation, even if the executable appears on disk.
Console digital purchase
Check both Ubisoft’s game requirements and the console platform’s licensing rules. Complete the first launch, updates and account linking while connected. Then test the console’s own offline behavior with network access disabled. A PC result cannot establish a console result.
Boxed console copy
Install from the disc while online if updates or additional downloads are required, then test with the network disabled. If the disc is only a license token for a substantial download, retain the installed files and required patches before relying on it offline.

Cloud-streamed version
Cloud play requires an active connection to stream the game, so it cannot substitute for an installed offline copy. Verify that the service offers a downloadable installation and that the downloaded edition has its own offline terms.
When to repeat the test
Repeat the online-to-offline procedure after any event that can alter entitlement or software state:
- A major game or Ubisoft Connect update.
- A reinstall, disk move or restore from backup.
- Changing the Ubisoft account or linked platform account.
- Changing subscription status, including a lapse or renewal.
- Installing a new edition or downloadable-content bundle.
- Changing the store region or platform device.
- A long period without launching the game, if the title may use an expiring offline authorization.
- A service shutdown, account-security change or published requirement update.
Keep a short record with the test date, client version, game version, account, edition and what worked. That record helps distinguish a title limitation from a one-time network or login problem.
A practical decision checklist
Use this checklist before depending on a Ubisoft game during travel, a commute or an outage:
- Have I identified the exact game, edition, platform and region?
- Is the copy purchased, redeemed or subscription-based?
- Does the official requirement mention a permanent or persistent online connection?
- Does it require Ubisoft Connect, an account, DRM or first-launch activation?
- Have I installed all updates and downloadable content I will need?
- Have I launched this exact installation online with the owning account?
- Have I reached the intended single-player content and created a local test save?
- Have I selected Offline mode and physically disabled every network connection?
- Did the game start from a fresh launch while disconnected?
- Did I load, play and save the content I actually plan to use?
- Do I understand which multiplayer, cloud, reward, news and statistics features will be unavailable?
- Is the copy a Ubisoft+ entitlement, which requires internet access even for offline play?
If any answer is unknown, the game is not verified for your use case. Resolve that uncertainty while connected rather than assuming that the launcher’s Offline label guarantees playability.
