A Salesforce AI product rename does not automatically amend your contract, change your price, or add or remove entitlements. To determine what changed for your account, compare the executed Order Form and incorporated agreement with the product terms in effect on your order or subscription start date, then reconcile those records with your current account and billing screens. Salesforce documented the Einstein Copilot for Salesforce to Agentforce rename as a functionality-preserving name change, but that statement does not decide the terms of every customer’s order or any other AI product.
What a Salesforce product rename can—and cannot—change
A label can change in release notes, setup screens, administration menus, legal notices, and billing displays without changing the service you bought. It can also accompany a real commercial change. The name alone is therefore not enough evidence either way.
Usually cosmetic or administrative effects
- The product appears under a new label in the Salesforce interface, documentation, or release notes.
- Help articles and implementation guidance use the new name while older order records retain the former name.
- An administrator sees a new agent type or feature label but the configured behavior and existing implementation remain the same.
Changes that require document-level verification
- The contracted service description or product family is different.
- The purchased quantity, seat count, license type, or add-on has changed.
- The price, payment basis, usage metric, credits, or overage treatment is different.
- Included features, limits, support rights, data rights, or other entitlements have changed.
- The order term, renewal date, subscription start date, or applicable product terms are different.
A rename becomes commercially important only when one or more of those underlying elements changes for your order. Your signed or accepted documents and account-specific records—not a general announcement—are what you must use to establish that.
Documents that control the review
Start with records tied to your account and order. Keep the complete document, including exhibits, product schedules, amendments, and renewal paperwork, rather than relying on a screenshot of a product catalog.

If procurement, finance, or an administrator has only one of these records, obtain the rest before deciding that a rename changed the subscription. A current account display is useful evidence of what Salesforce is presenting, but it is not a substitute for the executed order and incorporated terms.
Step-by-step: verify a rename against your subscription
1. Define the exact account and order under review
Write down the Salesforce account, org or tenant, product label as it appeared originally, and the order or subscription start date. If your company has multiple orgs, subsidiaries, or renewal orders, identify the one connected to the disputed charge or entitlement. Do not combine records from different accounts into a single conclusion.
2. Collect the governing records
- Retrieve the signed or accepted Order Form for the relevant purchase.
- Save the Main Services Agreement version that the Order Form incorporates.
- Gather amendments, expansion orders, renewal orders, and any written pricing or licensing addenda.
- Export or capture the current Your Account and billing details, including invoices and usage information when available.
Use the original files or an authenticated customer portal download when possible. Record the document date and version so another reviewer can reproduce your comparison.

Make a small name map with four columns: former label, current label, where each label appears, and the date shown. Include spelling differences, abbreviations, and suffixes such as “LP.” A label in a release note may describe an agent type, while the Order Form may use a broader product or SKU description. Treat those as separate identifiers until Salesforce confirms their relationship.
4. Check the Product Terms Directory using the order start date
Open the Product Terms Directory and use its date selector for the order or subscription start date, not merely today’s date. Search for the name exactly as it appears on the Order Form, invoice, or account page. Salesforce states that product terms in effect as of the Order Start Date or subscription start date generally apply for the duration of the Order Term or subscription term. The directory also notes that names are sometimes updated and that the same name may appear in more than one listing, including a listing with “LP” after the name.

That date-based rule has an important qualification: Salesforce says terms can be updated, including terms added for new functionality. Read the dated listing and any applicable update language rather than assuming that the newest page silently rewrites an existing order.
5. Compare the commercial and technical fields
Use the same fields in the Order Form, account or billing record, and dated product terms. Mark each as matching, different, or not stated. The table below gives a practical comparison set.

6. Test the “no functional change” statement against your order
Salesforce’s Winter ’25 release notes state: “Einstein Copilot for Salesforce is Now Agentforce.” They describe the event as renaming the Einstein Copilot for Salesforce agent type to Agentforce “with no changes in functionality” and say, “This change won’t impact your implementations.” Treat that as a statement about the documented rename. It does not establish your price, quantity, license grant, usage billing, or the treatment of a different AI product.
7. Reconcile the account and billing display
Look for the new label on invoices, license pages, setup screens, usage dashboards, and renewal quotations. A display-only change should leave the contractual quantity, price, dates, and entitlements aligned. If a label changed at the same time as a new invoice line, new usage meter, or altered license count, isolate those differences and ask Salesforce to explain each one separately.
8. Request written clarification when anything is ambiguous
When the directory, account, and order use different names, contact the designated Salesforce Account Executive or Salesforce Support through your normal account channel. Salesforce directs customers to Your Account or their designated Account Executive when a product name is missing or ambiguous. Ask for the response in writing and save it with the order records.

How to interpret the Agentforce and Einstein Copilot example
The Copilot-to-Agentforce change is a useful illustration because Salesforce made an explicit public statement about it. The Winter ’25 release notes identify the old and new labels and say functionality and implementations were not changed. That supports treating the event as a name change for the described agent type unless your account documents show a separate commercial action.

It does not answer every question an administrator may have:
- Whether your Order Form purchased that specific agent type or a different Salesforce AI product.
- Whether your contract lists a separate SKU, add-on, seat count, or usage allowance.
- Whether a renewal, expansion, or amendment changed the price or quantity at the same time.
- Whether a new Agentforce capability is governed by terms added for new functionality.
Salesforce’s legal notices also identify “Agentforce for Flow” as formerly “Einstein for Flow.” That former-name reference helps explain terminology in legal materials, but it is a list of covered services and features, not an individual customer’s Order Form. Use it to recognize the label, then return to your account documents.
Agentforce licensing and consumption checks
Do not apply a generic Agentforce price to your subscription. Salesforce says project requirements and required add-on licenses vary by use case and agent type. It also describes Agentforce as consumption-based and directs customers to pricing information, their contract, or their Account Executive for billing details.
Check the license model
- Identify whether the order names a license, an add-on, a usage allowance, or a combination.
- Confirm which agent type and use case the license covers.
- Record included credits, units, or other consumption measures if the order states them.
- Compare the account’s assigned licenses with the quantity purchased.
Check the usage meter
Find the unit Salesforce counts, the reporting period, any included amount, and the rate or treatment after the allowance. A renamed product can retain its meter; a new meter is a substantive billing question that needs written confirmation. If the account page uses terms such as credits or consumption units that do not appear on the Order Form, ask Salesforce to identify the governing definition and effective date.

What to do when records disagree
Only the interface label differs
If the Order Form, dated terms, quantity, price, dates, and entitlements all match, document the old-to-new label mapping and keep the release-note statement with the account file. Administrators can update internal references without treating the rename as a new purchase.
The product name and SKU differ
Do not assume the SKU change is cosmetic. Ask Salesforce to state whether the former and current identifiers represent the same contracted service, and request the effective date of the mapping. Obtain confirmation of unchanged functionality, entitlements, quantity, price, usage basis, and term.
The invoice or price changed
Separate a renewal repricing, a new order, a tax or currency adjustment, and a usage charge from the rename itself. Compare the invoice period and line-item description with the relevant Order Form and renewal document. Ask for a corrected invoice or credit process if the charge cannot be tied to an executed commercial record.
The quantity or entitlement changed
Check for an amendment, expansion order, administrator assignment change, or edition transition. Capture the prior and current counts, the effective date, and the document authorizing the difference. A support or sales explanation should identify the precise contractual basis, not merely repeat the new product name.

Use the Product Terms Directory’s date selector again with the subscription start date and search variants of the recorded name, including any “LP” listing. If the product remains missing or multiple listings are plausible, follow Salesforce’s direction to Your Account or the designated Account Executive and request the applicable dated terms in writing.

A written-confirmation request you can send
Use a factual request that forces each issue into a yes-or-no answer:
“Our Order Form dated [date] lists [former product name], quantity [quantity], at [price or pricing basis], for the term [start date–end date]. Our account now displays [current name]. Please confirm in writing whether these labels identify the same contracted service. Please also confirm whether the rename changed functionality, entitlements, license quantity, price, currency, payment terms, consumption unit or credits, renewal date, or applicable product terms. If any item changed, identify the effective date and the Order Form, amendment, or dated product term that authorizes it.”
Replace the bracketed fields with the exact wording from your records. Keep the response with the executed documents and note who provided it and when.
Build an audit trail before approving a renewal or invoice
A short comparison log prevents a terminology change from being mistaken for a commercial change. Record one row per order or subscription, not one row per product name.

Common mistakes that produce the wrong conclusion
- Assuming a new label is a new product. A display name is not proof of a new license or SKU.
- Assuming a familiar label is the same entitlement. Similar names can identify different agent types, editions, or add-ons.
- Using today’s terms for an older order. Select the Product Terms Directory date that matches the order or subscription start date.
- Checking only the invoice. An invoice may omit feature limits or incorporated legal terms that appear in the Order Form and agreement.
- Checking only the Order Form. A renewal or amendment may have changed the current quantity or term.
- Applying the Copilot statement to every AI product. The no-functionality-change statement is limited to the documented Einstein Copilot for Salesforce agent-type rename.
- Guessing a consumption price. Agentforce requirements and billing vary by use case and agent type; use your contract and account records.
- Accepting a verbal answer for a disputed charge. Request a written mapping and a written explanation of every changed field.
When to involve procurement or legal counsel
Escalate internally when the mismatch affects a material invoice, renewal commitment, data or security obligations, user access, or a feature your business relies on. Provide counsel or procurement with the executed Order Form, incorporated agreement, amendments, dated product terms, invoice or account evidence, and Salesforce’s written response. Ask them to determine the contractual effect from those records rather than from the product label alone.
Decision rule
If the old and new labels map to the same service and the quantity, price, billing basis, entitlements, dates, and applicable terms remain consistent, the evidence supports a rename without a demonstrated subscription change. If any of those fields differ or cannot be tied to a dated order, amendment, or product term, treat the issue as unresolved and obtain account-specific written clarification before approving payment, changing implementation assumptions, or accepting a renewal.
