A USB-C charger is compatible with HomeView only when its output profile matches the exact model—not merely when the wattage appears high enough. Identify whether you have the tabletop or wall-mounted version, then compare the adapter label with the model-specific voltage, current and wattage requirements below. The cable, ports and (for wall mounting) the mount or wiring solution must also be checked.
HomeView adapter requirements at a glance
Apple’s 2026 support requirements distinguish the two HomeView configurations. Read the output section printed on the adapter itself; input ratings, USB-A ratings and a headline maximum wattage do not prove compatibility.
| HomeView model | Minimum adapter rating | Required output profile | Connector |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tabletop Apple HomeView | 30 W or higher | 15 V at 2 A or higher | USB-C power adapter used with a USB-C cable |
| HomeView (Wall Mounted) | 20 W or higher | 9 V at 2.22 A or higher | USB-C power adapter used with a USB-C cable, unless the mount uses a separate AC-wired or PoE-wired solution |
The voltage and current must be available together on an output profile. A charger that advertises enough total watts at a different voltage is not automatically suitable. For example, multiplying voltage by current gives the power available at that profile, so the label must show the required voltage and at least the required current, not just a large number elsewhere on the label.

Tabletop model
The tabletop model is designed to sit on a surface and uses the tabletop adapter profile in the table. Do not select the wall-mounted requirement simply because both devices use USB-C; the minimum voltage and current profile differs by model.

Wall-mounted model
The wall-mounted model depends on more than the charger. Apple says a compatible third-party mount and power solution are required and are sold separately. Some wall installations use a USB-C lead and an adapter; others use a mount connected to household AC wiring or Power over Ethernet (PoE). Establish which arrangement is installed before diagnosing the adapter.
When the model is unclear
Check the original product information, the device’s packaging or the documentation supplied with the installation. If the unit is attached to a wall mount, identify the mount and how its power enters the assembly. Do not infer the model from the cable alone: a USB-C connector is used across many power levels.
2. Read the adapter label correctly
Find the output, not the input
Turn the adapter over or inspect its printed specifications. Look for a line labelled “Output,” “DC output” or a list of USB-C output profiles. Input information describes what the adapter draws from the wall and cannot establish whether HomeView will receive the required power.
Match voltage and current at the same profile
For the tabletop unit, the relevant line must provide the tabletop profile shown above. For the wall-mounted USB-C arrangement, it must provide the wall-mounted profile shown above. If several profiles are listed, verify that the required voltage has the required current beside it; do not combine the current from one line with the voltage from another.
Do not use the headline wattage alone
“30 W,” “60 W” or another maximum printed on a box is not enough evidence by itself. The maximum may apply only under a different output condition, or to a different port. A multi-port adapter may also reduce the available output when another device is connected. Read the USB-C port’s own specification and test it with no competing device attached.

Check the actual port
Use the USB-C port whose output is described on the label. A USB-A port, a USB-C port marked only for data, or a port with a lower profile may not provide the required HomeView power even when the adapter has a high total rating. If the adapter has several USB-C ports with different specifications, use the one that explicitly supports the HomeView profile.
3. Verify the cable, adapter and device port
Apple’s troubleshooting guidance treats the cable and physical connections as part of the power path. A correctly rated adapter can still produce a warning when a cable is damaged, a connector is not fully seated or a port is obstructed.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Disconnect the USB-C cable from both the adapter and HomeView.
- Inspect the adapter housing, cable ends and device port for visible damage, looseness or contamination.
- Clean the accessible contacts and port gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not introduce liquid or a sharp object into the port.
- Reconnect the cable firmly at both ends and make sure the adapter is fully inserted into the outlet.
- If the warning remains, repeat the test with another compatible USB-C cable and another compatible adapter.
A replacement cable should be checked against the same model-specific requirements. Swapping only the cable is useful because it isolates a cable fault; swapping only the adapter is useful because it isolates an output-profile or adapter fault.
4. Run a controlled compatibility test
Use this sequence when you are unsure whether an existing charger will work. It avoids changing several variables at once.
- Disconnect other loads. Remove phones, tablets and other devices from the adapter so its USB-C port is not sharing output.
- Confirm the model. Use the tabletop or wall-mounted row in the requirements table, not a generic HomeView assumption.
- Read the USB-C output profile. Confirm the required voltage and current are listed together and that the minimum wattage is met.
- Use a known-good USB-C cable. Choose a cable in good condition and seat it fully at both ends.
- Try a different wall outlet. Apple’s sequence includes moving to another outlet, which rules out an outlet or connection problem.
- Power the device and observe the result. A successful start without a power warning indicates that the tested adapter-and-cable combination is suitable for that setup.
- Change one component at a time if it fails. Test a different compatible cable first, then a different compatible adapter, recording which change removes the warning.
This test demonstrates compatibility for the specific adapter, cable and installation you tested. It does not make every charger with a similar printed wattage interchangeable.

What “Power Adapter Not Supported” means
When HomeView’s power requirements are not met, Apple says the display can show “Power Adapter Not Supported” together with a lightning-bolt symbol and a yellow exclamation triangle. The message means the device has detected an issue with the available power path; it does not identify which component is at fault.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStart with the least invasive checks: reseat the adapter and cable, try another outlet, then try another USB-C cable and adapter that meet the model’s profile. If the message appears only while the wall-mounted unit is attached to its mount, perform the direct test described in the next section.
Wall-mounted HomeView: separate the mount from the adapter
Direct test outside the mount
Remove the wall-mounted unit from its mount and connect it directly with a compatible USB-C cable and adapter. If HomeView powers on normally outside the mount but shows the warning when reattached, the adapter is less likely to be the cause. Apple advises contacting the mount manufacturer or the professional installer in that situation.
Do not force a connector or bypass a mount’s wiring. Photographing the cable routing and noting which adapter and outlet produced each result can help an installer reproduce the fault without guesswork.
USB-C mount power
Apple’s store lists the Schneider Home Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector for Apple HomeView (Wall Mounted) as designed for this model. Its supplied USB-C cable is 2 metres long, requires a compatible USB-C adapter meeting the wall-mounted minimum, and supports continuous power from 20 W to 60 W. The adapter is sold separately, so buying the mount does not by itself supply a compliant charger.

AC-wired and PoE-wired mounts
Schneider also documents AC-wired and PoE-wired Power Mount variants. AC wiring connects the mount to household power. PoE carries power and networking over Ethernet. These paths change the installation and troubleshooting steps: there may be no separate USB-C wall adapter at the mount, and an AC-wired installation may require an electrician or professional installer under local rules. For PoE, verify the network-side power equipment and cabling with the installer rather than substituting a USB-C charger.
| Mount path | Power enters through | What to check | Installation implications |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB-C | USB-C cable and separate USB-C adapter | Adapter profile, cable condition, connector seating and the mount’s USB-C connection | Usually the simplest path to test directly; adapter and cable may be sold separately |
| AC-wired | Household AC wiring | Mount wiring, supply, connection and installer workmanship | May require an electrician and must follow local electrical requirements |
| PoE-wired | Ethernet carrying power and networking | PoE-capable network equipment, Ethernet cable and mount installation | Requires network planning; a USB-C adapter is not the power source |
Can a MacBook or iPad charger work?
Brand or device association does not determine compatibility. A charger sold for a laptop or tablet can work only if the USB-C port’s printed output includes the required profile for your HomeView model and the cable and mount arrangement are also suitable. Conversely, a charger marketed for a smaller device may fail even if its plug fits.
Read the label rather than relying on the charger’s name, the device it originally charged or its maximum advertised wattage. If the required voltage/current combination is absent, choose another adapter; do not assume HomeView will convert an unsuitable profile into a supported one.
Common mistakes and their fixes
Choosing by watts only
Symptom: The adapter’s headline wattage meets or exceeds the minimum, but HomeView still displays the warning.
Fix: Check the voltage and current listed together for the USB-C port. The required profile matters as much as the total wattage.

Using the wrong model row
Symptom: A charger works with one HomeView configuration but not the other.
Fix: Reconfirm whether the unit is tabletop or wall mounted. Their minimum profiles are different.

Testing through a suspect mount
Symptom: The wall-mounted unit warns only when installed.
Fix: Perform the direct test outside the mount. A change in behavior points the investigation toward the mount or installation.
Leaving another device connected
Symptom: HomeView works alone but not when another device is plugged into the same multi-port adapter.
Fix: Disconnect the other device and check the adapter’s per-port output specification. Shared output can change what the HomeView port can provide.
Assuming the mount includes everything
Symptom: The wall mount is installed but there is no compliant adapter or cable available.
Fix: Inventory the mount, USB-C cable, adapter and any AC or PoE components separately. Wall-mounted hardware may be sold without one or more of these parts.
What to record before replacing equipment
Write down the exact HomeView configuration, the adapter’s model and output lines, the cable used, the outlet, the mount type and whether the device works outside the mount. This creates a useful decision trail:
- If a different compatible adapter fixes the problem, retire or return the original adapter.
- If a different cable fixes it, replace the damaged or unsuitable cable.
- If direct USB-C power works but mounted power fails, contact the mount manufacturer or installer.
- If no tested combination works, recheck that the model was identified correctly and that the tested adapters actually list the required profile.
When comparing replacement adapters, evaluate model compatibility, minimum wattage, the supported voltage/current profile, whether a USB-C cable is included and its length, safety certifications, and the retailer’s return policy. A return option is especially useful when the label is ambiguous or the adapter has several ports with different limits.
Final decision
Approve a charger only after three checks pass: the HomeView model is correctly identified, the USB-C adapter label shows that model’s required voltage/current profile at or above its minimum power, and the cable and physical installation are sound. For a wall-mounted unit, also verify whether power comes through USB-C, AC wiring or PoE. If the warning disappears during a direct test but returns on the mount, treat the mount or installation as the likely fault and involve its manufacturer or installer.
