To check a Nintendo Switch game, first confirm the country assigned to the Nintendo Account you use on the console. Open Nintendo eShop with that account and search for the exact title. If it appears with a purchase option, it is listed for that account’s eShop country. If it does not appear, Nintendo says the game may either be unreleased or unavailable for purchase in that region, so check the game’s page on Nintendo’s Store before drawing a conclusion.
Digital availability, physical-card compatibility, downloadable-content (DLC) support and eShop-card compatibility are separate questions. A game card can work in a console even when its digital edition is not sold in your eShop, while DLC and eShop funds have stricter country or region requirements.
What “available in your region” means on Nintendo Switch
People use “available” to describe several different checks:
- Digital listing: The game can be found and purchased in the Nintendo eShop tied to your Nintendo Account’s country.
- Physical compatibility: A game card can run on your console, even if that edition was sold in another market.
- DLC compatibility: Add-on content works with the game release from the same region.
- Payment and funds: An eShop card is accepted by the country or regional store for which it was issued.
Check the category that matches what you plan to buy. Finding a game card in a shop does not prove that a digital copy is sold in your eShop, and seeing a digital listing does not make an imported DLC code compatible with every edition of the game.

Check the Nintendo Account country first
The Nintendo eShop country shown on a Switch is determined by the country setting on the Nintendo Account. The store you see is therefore an account-country check, not simply a check of where the console was purchased or where you are currently travelling.
- Identify the country whose store you want to check.
- Confirm the country of residence recorded on the Nintendo Account that you will use to open eShop.
- Use that same account on the Switch when you perform the search.
If the account is set to a different country, the eShop results may not represent the market you intended to investigate. Do not assume that a second account, a console’s purchase location or your current physical location changes the country of an existing account.
Search Nintendo eShop for the game
This is the quickest way to answer the digital-availability part of “How to Check Whether a Nintendo Switch Game Is Available in Your Region.”

- Choose the Nintendo Account whose country you verified.
- Use eShop search and enter the game’s exact title. Try the complete official name rather than an abbreviation, subtitle or translated nickname.
- Open the matching result and check that it is the intended game, edition and platform.
- Look for the purchase or download option. A listing in the account’s eShop indicates that Nintendo is offering that digital title to that country account at the time you check.
Availability can change. A listing can be added for a release date, removed, or limited by market, so record the country and date if you are comparing stores or planning a purchase later.
If the game does not appear in eShop
A missing search result is not proof of a permanent regional restriction. Nintendo’s eShop troubleshooting guidance gives two possible explanations: the game may not yet be released, or it may not be available for purchase in your region.

Check the game’s Nintendo Store page
- Open Nintendo’s Store page for the specific game using a browser.
- Check whether the page identifies a future release date or otherwise describes the title as unreleased.
- Check the country or regional version of the Store page and any purchase information shown there.
- Compare the result with the Nintendo Account country you confirmed earlier.
The Store page supplies title-specific context that a blank eShop search cannot. If the page shows an upcoming release, wait for the stated release timing rather than treating the absent listing as a regional block. If the title is released but the relevant country store does not offer it, the evidence supports “not available for purchase in that region.”
Rule out a search mismatch
- Check spelling, punctuation, subtitles and numerals in the title.
- Look for a standard edition instead of a bundle, demo or special edition.
- Verify that you are searching the eShop opened by the intended Nintendo Account.
- Confirm that the title is for Nintendo Switch rather than another Nintendo system.
These checks do not change regional availability; they prevent an incorrect search term or account from producing a false “missing” result.

Physical availability is a separate check from an eShop listing. For a card you already own or are considering, Nintendo points to two places for supported-region information:
- Inspect the game card’s retail packaging for the region information supplied with that edition.
- Insert the card in the Switch, highlight the game on the HOME Menu, open Options, choose Software Information, then select Support Information.
Nintendo states that, with the exception of consoles and game cards distributed in the Chinese region, Nintendo Switch game cards are not region locked. That means an ordinary imported card will generally start on a Switch from another region. “Not region locked” is not the same as a guarantee that every service will work identically: Nintendo cautions that it has not tested all overseas software with consoles from all regions and does not guarantee full service and support for every combination.
What to verify before buying an imported card
- Read the packaging or Support Information entry for the card’s supported-region details.
- Check whether the game requires online services, updates or an account-based feature that could be handled differently across markets.
- Plan DLC separately; card compatibility does not make DLC from another region interchangeable.
- Keep the seller’s return policy in mind because Nintendo does not guarantee full support for every overseas-software and console combination.
DLC must match the game’s release region
DLC has a stricter regional dependency than the basic game card. Nintendo says DLC works only with games released for the same region as the DLC. Before buying an expansion, costume, season pass or other add-on, identify the release region of the base game and use DLC from that same region.

- Determine the game edition’s release region from its packaging or from Options > Software Information > Support Information.
- Check the region of the eShop account or code offering the DLC.
- Buy the add-on only when those release regions match.
An imported physical game can therefore run while an add-on purchased from your usual eShop fails to work with it. Treat the base game and each DLC purchase as a matched pair rather than assuming that a shared title name means the content is interchangeable.
eShop cards and account-country changes
eShop cards are country or region specific
Nintendo says eShop cards are limited to the country or region where they were intended to be sold. A card issued for one regional store may not work in another country’s eShop. Match the card’s intended country or region to the Nintendo Account country before purchasing it.
Changing the country on a Nintendo Account
Nintendo allows users who relocate to another country to change their Nintendo Account country of residence. The eShop switches to the new country the next time it is opened. This is an account-setting change, not a harmless way to browse every market, because the change has consequences and can be blocked.
Nintendo identifies these conditions as possible reasons a country change cannot proceed:
- Unspent Nintendo Account balance remains.
- An active auto-renewal is attached to the account.
- A downloadable-content pre-order is pending.
Funds do not transfer when the account country changes. Resolve those account conditions and understand the loss of remaining balance before attempting a change. If you only want to see whether a title is sold in another market, changing the country casually can create a financial or subscription problem without guaranteeing that the game will be available.

Availability in the Americas
Nintendo’s Americas support information currently lists Switch eShop availability in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States. Nintendo says the eShop is not currently available in the other Latin American and Caribbean countries covered by that support guidance. The list is geographically scoped to Nintendo’s Americas information and can change.
For countries in other regions, Nintendo directs users to the distributor for their country for feature information. Do not extend the Americas list to another continent or assume that a country not listed there has the same eShop functions. Check the account country and the applicable Nintendo or local-distributor information for your market.
Digital listing versus physical compatibility
Use the following distinction when comparing two regional editions:

A practical decision process before you buy
- Name the market: Write down the country whose digital store or physical edition you are checking.
- Confirm the account: Verify the Nintendo Account country used by the Switch eShop.
- Search digitally: Find the exact title and inspect its listing and purchase status.
- Investigate a missing result: Use the game’s Nintendo Store page to distinguish an unreleased title from one unavailable in that region.
- Inspect physical details: For a card, read the packaging or Support Information entry.
- Match add-ons: Confirm that DLC and any code use the same release region as the base game.
- Match funds: Ensure an eShop card was issued for the country or region of the account’s store.
- Reconsider account changes: If you are thinking about changing country, check balance, auto-renewal and DLC pre-order conditions first.
This sequence prevents the most common mistake: treating a successful physical-card launch as proof that the game’s digital edition, DLC or payment code will work in the same way.
Troubleshooting common scenarios
“Why can’t I find this game in Nintendo eShop?”
First verify the Nintendo Account country and the exact title spelling. Then check Nintendo’s Store page. The remaining explanations supported by Nintendo’s guidance are that the title has not been released yet or is not available for purchase in that region.

“The card works, but the DLC does not.”
Compare the DLC region with the game’s release region. Nintendo’s rule requires a same-region match; ordinary card compatibility does not override it.
“I bought an eShop card abroad and it will not redeem.”
Check the card’s intended country or region against the Nintendo Account’s eShop country. Nintendo limits cards to the market for which they were sold.
“Can I change my account country to get the game?”
You can change country when relocating, but Nintendo warns that remaining balance does not carry over and that unspent funds, active auto-renewal or a pending DLC pre-order may prevent the change. It is not a risk-free browsing workaround.

“Will a Nintendo Switch game from another region work on my console?”
Except for consoles and cards distributed in the Chinese region, Switch game cards are not region locked according to Nintendo. However, Nintendo has not tested every overseas-software and console pairing and does not promise full service and support for all of them. Check the card’s packaging or Support Information and treat DLC as a separate same-region requirement.
What to record when comparing regional versions
For a purchase decision, keep a short record containing:
- The Nintendo Account country used for the eShop search.
- The date you checked the digital listing.
- Whether Nintendo’s Store page identifies a release date or regional purchase availability.
- The physical card’s region information from packaging or Support Information.
- The region of every planned DLC item.
- The intended country or region printed on any eShop card.
Those details let you separate a temporary unreleased status from a regional omission and help you avoid pairing an imported game with incompatible add-ons or funds.
