The quickest way to check a business’s local presence is to search Bing Maps for its exact business name and full street address. A matching place card means Bing has a local listing for that location. Open the listing’s options, choose Manage business, and sign in to Bing Places to claim and verify it. If no matching result appears, add or import the business through Bing Places for Business.
This check is separate from checking whether the business website is indexed in Bing. Bing Maps answers “Does this local place appear?”; Bing Webmaster Tools answers “Can Bing find and index this web page?”
What “appears in Bing local search” actually means
Bing uses several related systems that can make a business visible in different ways:

- Bing Maps listing: The local business record connected to a physical location, including its name, address, phone number, hours, category, website and other details.
- Bing search result: A conventional web result for the company’s website or another page about the company.
- Bing Places account: The management area where an owner or authorized representative claims, creates, verifies and updates a listing.
- Bing index status: Whether Bing has crawled and indexed a particular URL, diagnosed through Bing Webmaster Tools.
A company can have an indexed website but no visible Maps listing. Conversely, a Maps listing can exist even when the company website is unavailable or not indexed. Check the result that corresponds to your goal instead of treating one as proof of the other.

Run the direct Bing Maps presence check
1. Search the exact name and address
- Open Bing Maps.
- Enter the business’s complete, official name.
- Add the full street address, including city, region or state, postal code and country where relevant.
- Run the search and inspect the map pins and place results.
Including the full address is important. A name-only search can return similarly named companies, a different branch, an old location or a business in another city. Bing’s Places FAQ specifically recommends looking up the business on Bing Maps with its name and address to determine whether it is already listed.
2. Confirm that the result is the right location
Do not stop at seeing a familiar name. Compare the result with the business you are checking:
- Street address and suite or unit number
- Telephone number and website domain
- Business category and services
- Opening hours
- Map position and nearby landmarks
- Photos, description and other identifying details
If several branches share a name, verify each address separately. A result for one branch does not establish that every location has a listing.

3. Record what the result tells you
Use the following interpretation before taking action:

Manage and claim an existing listing
Open “Manage business”
When the correct listing appears, open the ellipsis or other options control beside the business name and select Manage business. Bing will take you to the sign-in and ownership workflow for Bing Places.

Sign in with the account that should control the location. Review the business name, address, phone number, website and category before accepting any changes. If another person already manages the listing, the available options may differ from those for an unclaimed listing.
Understand what verification does
Bing uses verification to establish that the person managing the listing is the business owner or an authorized representative. Successful verification gives the verified account full access and control of the listing. Some limited editing may be available before verification, but it should not be confused with ownership.
Follow the verification method shown in your Bing Places account. The exact choices can depend on the business and the information Bing can validate. Complete every requested step and retain any confirmation shown by the account.
Do not create a duplicate unnecessarily
If an existing location is already present, claim or correct that record instead of creating a second entry. Duplicate listings can split reviews and signals, confuse customers and leave conflicting addresses in search results. Use the exact address to distinguish a legitimate second branch from a duplicate of the first.
Add a business that is missing
Use Bing Places for Business
If the Bing Maps search does not find the correct location, use Bing Places for Business to create a listing. Bing describes the service as free and intended for claiming existing listings, creating new ones and managing the details shown to searchers.

- Open Bing Places for Business and sign in or create the account that will own the listing.
- Choose the option to add a new business or location.
- Enter the official business name and complete physical address exactly as customers should see it.
- Add the phone number, website, category, hours and other requested information.
- Review the map pin and location details carefully.
- Submit the listing and complete the verification steps Bing presents.
Use one listing for each eligible physical location unless Bing’s current guidance says otherwise for your business type. Keep the public-facing name consistent with the name customers encounter at that address; avoid adding marketing slogans or keyword strings that are not part of the real name.
Import from a Google Business Profile if useful
Bing Places can link a Google Business Profile to import listings. Importing is optional, not a prerequisite for appearing on Bing. It can save data-entry time when the Google record is accurate, but review every imported field before submission. An old address, wrong hours or duplicate branch can be carried into Bing if the source record is not current.
Information to prepare
- Official business name and any legally relevant alternate name
- Complete street address, including suite, floor or unit
- Local telephone number
- Current website URL
- Primary category and, where supported, additional categories
- Regular and holiday opening hours
- Service-area information if the business serves customers away from its address
- Photos or other profile details requested by the setup form
- Access to the email, phone or other channel used for verification
Only submit information you can support and keep current. The goal is a trustworthy location record, not simply a filled-in profile.
How long publication takes after verification
Verification does not make a new or claimed listing appear instantly. Bing’s official Places FAQ states: “After your listing is successfully verified, it usually takes 7-12 calendar days to be published and appear live on Bing.” The 7–12-day period is a usual processing estimate, not a guarantee that every detail will update simultaneously.
Allow additional time for individual details to propagate across search results. During this period, check the Bing Places account for a pending status rather than repeatedly creating new listings. Re-submitting duplicates can make it harder to determine which record is authoritative.

If the listing is still unpublished after 12 calendar days, Bing says it may require further review and recommends contacting support. Include the business name, full address, account details and any verification confirmation when you request help.
Fix a listing that appears with incorrect details
Compare every important field
Once you can manage the record, check the fields customers rely on:
- Business name
- Street address and map pin
- Phone number
- Website
- Hours, including holiday exceptions
- Category and service description
- Photos and customer-facing attributes
Correct the source listing first, then allow time for publication and propagation. Check the map result again after changes have had time to process.
Keep information consistent across the web
Bing says it compares submitted details with information found across search engines, websites and social media. Conflicting names, addresses, phone numbers or hours can make a listing less accurate or delay trust in a change. Keep the same core details on the company website, major social profiles and other legitimate business pages.

If the business moved, update the current address everywhere and remove or close obsolete location records where appropriate. For a business with several branches, use a distinct address and phone number for each location when those details are genuinely different.

When a change is not visible yet
Check the Bing Places status first. A change may be awaiting verification, publication or propagation rather than rejected. If the account shows a completed status but Bing Maps still displays the old value after a reasonable processing period, contact Bing support with the specific field, the submitted value and the date of the change.

What a URL check answers
A Bing Webmaster Tools search for a URL, including a url: query, concerns whether Bing knows about and indexes a web page. Bing Webmaster Tools also provides URL Inspection for a domain added to the account. URL Inspection can show crawl and index diagnostics for that page.
What it cannot prove
A page being indexed does not prove that the associated business has a Bing Maps listing. It only establishes a web-page indexing condition. Likewise, failure to find a page in the index does not prove that the local listing is absent. Perform the Bing Maps name-and-address search for local presence, and use Webmaster Tools URL Inspection for page-level crawl or index problems.

Troubleshooting by status

A repeatable check for one location or many
For a single business
- Write down the exact public name and full address.
- Search Bing Maps using both.
- Confirm the phone, website and map position.
- If correct, select Manage business and verify ownership status.
- If absent, create or import the listing in Bing Places.
- Complete verification and record the submission date.
- Recheck after the normal publication window.
For multiple branches
- Create a location list with one row per physical branch.
- Search each name-and-address combination independently.
- Mark each row as current, incorrect, duplicate, missing, pending verification or published.
- Claim existing records and add only genuinely missing locations.
- Check each branch’s phone, hours, map pin and website rather than assuming one correction applies to all.
- Track the verification and publication date for every location.
This approach prevents a headquarters result from being mistaken for coverage of the entire business and gives you a clear record when contacting support.
What the check can and cannot tell you
- It can tell you: whether Bing Maps returns a plausible local record for the searched location, whether the displayed details look current, and whether a management path is available.
- It cannot guarantee: a particular ranking position, visibility for every search phrase, immediate propagation of a change or inclusion in every Bing surface.
- It does not measure: website index coverage, customer reviews on other platforms or local search performance in general.
Bing’s publication timing and listing controls describe availability of the record, not a promise that it will rank first or appear for every query. Test the exact location and query a customer would use, while treating the managed listing as the authoritative place to correct business data.
