To verify a Vande Bharat Sleeper journey, use the official Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry schedule lookup with the train name or number, then check the same train and direction in the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) for live running information. Finally, check seat availability for your exact travel date through an authorized railway booking channel. The schedule page shows the planned stations, arrival and departure times, halts, distances and travel days; NTES shows updated operational status.
Do not rely on a generic route list, a search-result snippet or the timetable in the opposite direction. Vande Bharat Sleeper services are train- and direction-specific, and running days, timings, inventory and operational conditions can change.
What you need to verify before booking
A safe booking decision requires five separate checks:

The Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry schedule is the authoritative place to read the planned timetable for trains defined in the Passenger Reservation System (PRS). NTES complements it with updated arrival, departure and running information. Neither page, by itself, proves that a seat is available on your chosen date.

What is known about the first Vande Bharat Sleeper service
The Ministry of Railways announced an overnight Vande Bharat Sleeper connection between Guwahati and Howrah on 1 January 2026. The stated timetable intention was an evening departure from the origin and arrival at the destination early the next morning. That is a service-planning objective, not a replacement for the timetable on a particular date.
The inaugural service was identified as train 27576 from Kamakhya (KYQ) to Howrah (HWH). The inaugural commercial journey from Kamakhya was scheduled for 22 January 2026, with the Howrah-origin journey scheduled for 23 January 2026. Ticket sales for that launch opened on 19 January 2026 at 08:00. A Lok Sabha answer records regular operation of the paired 27575/27576 Howrah–Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express as having commenced on 22 January 2026.
A Rajya Sabha answer from February 2026 described the service as scheduled six days a week: the Kamakhya departure was listed for every day except Wednesday, and the Howrah departure for every day except Thursday. Treat that statement as a dated operating snapshot. Confirm the current running days in the official schedule before paying for travel.
A separate Lok Sabha answer said that two Vande Bharat Sleeper services were operating as of 25 March 2026, but the available passage does not provide a complete current route list. It therefore cannot be used to establish every route operating in October 2026. Search the official schedule by train name or number for the date you intend to travel.
Step 1: identify the exact train and travel direction
Start with an official train number
Find the train number in an official railway notice, a booking enquiry, or station information. A train number is more reliable than a shortened name because similar names can refer to different services or directions. For the first sleeper pair, 27575 and 27576 identify opposite directions.

Record the station codes
Write down the station code as well as the station name. The first announced service uses KYQ for Kamakhya and HWH for Howrah. Station codes help prevent mistakes when a city has more than one station or when a booking form displays similarly named locations.
Confirm origin and destination separately
Do not assume that the return direction reverses the same times. Record the exact origin, destination and date before opening the schedule. If your trip begins at an intermediate station, verify that the train actually stops there and that boarding is permitted on your selected date.

Open the CRIS Indian Railways Passenger Reservation Enquiry service and choose its train-schedule lookup. Interface wording can change, but the function is the schedule enquiry that accepts a train name or number.
- Enter the complete train number, such as 27575 or 27576, or search by the official train name.
- Select the matching result rather than a similarly named train.
- Check the displayed origin and destination against your journey direction.
- Read the entire station sequence, not just the first and last rows.
- Check the running-day or day field against your travel date.
- Note the arrival time, departure time, halt duration, distance and day shown for every station you may use.
- Save or print the result with the date and direction visible so you can compare it with later status updates.
The schedule output is built for trains defined in PRS. It is the planned timetable: it tells you where the train is intended to stop and when it is intended to arrive and depart. It does not guarantee that the train will be on time on the day of travel.
How to interpret each timetable field

For an overnight train, the day column is especially important. A departure late on one calendar day can produce an arrival on the following day. Read the station row together with its day value instead of assuming that every time belongs to the departure date.

Step 3: compare both directions when planning a return trip
Run a separate schedule search for each direction. A return ticket should not be planned by simply reversing the outbound times. Enter the opposite train number or direction and inspect its own station sequence and day values.

The table separates what was reported in an official February 2026 statement from information that must be obtained for your actual date. It is not a substitute for the live schedule enquiry.
Step 4: use NTES for live running information
After reading the planned timetable, open the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and search by train number or the relevant running-status option. Use it near the travel date and again before leaving for the station.
- Enter the exact train number and select the correct journey date.
- Review the train’s current or latest reported station, expected arrival and departure, and any delay or cancellation message.
- Compare the reported progress with the planned station sequence from the Passenger Reservation Enquiry page.
- For an overnight trip, confirm whether the displayed date refers to the train’s departure date or its progress after midnight.
- Refresh the status close to departure because estimates can change as the train moves.
NTES is a live-status tool, not a replacement for the timetable. It may show a delayed train, a revised expected time or a cancellation notice, but it does not establish the complete planned route as clearly as the schedule enquiry. Conversely, the schedule page may still show the original plan after an operational disruption.
Step 5: confirm date-specific availability before booking
Once the route and timetable are correct, use an authorized railway booking channel to check the exact date, class, quota and boarding station. The historical launch announcement that ticket sales opened through PRS and other sites describes the 2026 inaugural release; it does not establish present inventory.

- Enter the same origin, destination, train number and journey date used in the schedule check.
- Confirm that the booking result shows the Vande Bharat Sleeper service, not another train with similar stations.
- Review the available accommodation classes and quotas displayed for that date.
- Check the boarding station, destination station and passenger details before payment.
- Read the current fare, cancellation and change conditions shown by the booking channel.
- Complete payment only after the train number, direction, date and availability status match your plan.
Availability is inventory at the moment of the enquiry. A seat visible earlier can disappear before payment, and a waitlisted or unavailable result can change later. Keep the booking confirmation and train number so you can check the same service in NTES.
Compare the schedule with your actual travel plan
Before booking, fill in a small worksheet for each proposed journey. This exposes errors that a quick search can hide.

Known service specifications and what they do not prove
The Ministry of Railways’ 1 January 2026 announcement described the first sleeper train with 16 coaches: 11 AC three-tier coaches, four AC two-tier coaches and one AC first-class coach. The same release gave an approximate capacity of 823 passengers and a design speed of up to 180 km/h.
- The 180 km/h figure is a design specification, not the speed the train will achieve on every section.
- Coach counts and passenger capacity describe the announced train configuration; they do not tell you whether a particular date has open berths.
- An overnight service intention does not guarantee an identical departure or arrival time after timetable revisions.
The ministry also listed KAVACH, CCTV in all coaches, emergency talk-back units, and fire-detection and suppression systems among the train’s features. These are published feature claims, not an independent safety audit or a guarantee that every operational condition will be identical on every journey.

Common mistakes and how to recover from them
Searching only by city names
Problem: a city may have multiple stations, or the result may show a different train. Fix: search by train number and verify station codes in the schedule rows.

Using a route article as the timetable
Problem: a static list may omit a newly added stop, a revised running day or a seasonal change. Fix: treat the current Passenger Reservation Enquiry result as the source for your date.
Assuming the opposite direction is a mirror image
Problem: departure and arrival times, halts and running days can differ. Fix: perform a separate search for the return train number.
Confusing planned time with live time
Problem: the timetable shows the original plan while the train is delayed or rescheduled. Fix: use NTES for operational progress and retain the schedule for the intended station sequence.

Reading an overnight date incorrectly
Problem: after midnight, the calendar day changes even though the same journey continues. Fix: read the timetable’s day field for every relevant station.
Relying on the 2026 launch booking date
Problem: the 19 January 2026 opening time describes the inaugural release, not current inventory. Fix: perform a fresh availability enquiry for your exact date and class.
Planning from an outdated parliamentary snapshot
Problem: the statement that two sleeper services operated as of 25 March 2026 is historical and incomplete for an October 2026 journey. Fix: search the official schedule by name or number instead of inferring the whole network.
Final pre-booking checklist
- Train number and official name match the service you intend to use.
- Origin and destination station codes are correct.
- Every planned stop relevant to your trip appears in the schedule.
- Departure, arrival, halt and distance fields have been read for the correct direction.
- The day field is correct for an overnight journey.
- The running day includes your selected date.
- NTES has been checked near travel time for delay, cancellation or revised estimates.
- Seat availability, class, quota and fare are confirmed in an authorized booking channel.
- You have saved the booking confirmation and train number for later status checks.
Following this sequence separates three things that are often confused: the planned Vande Bharat Sleeper timetable, the train’s live operating position, and the seats available for a particular date. Verify all three before making non-refundable travel arrangements.
