To verify that an Android phone is configured for Find Hub offline finding, turn on Settings > Location > Use location, enable Settings > Security > Find Hub > Allow device to be located, and choose the intended setting under Settings > Google > All Services (if shown) > Find Hub > Find your offline devices. Then sign in to the Find Hub app or android.com/find with the phone’s Google Account and confirm that the device is listed. These checks verify configuration and account visibility; they cannot guarantee that another phone will detect the device while it is offline.
What this check can—and cannot—prove
Find Hub combines ordinary device-location controls with an optional crowdsourced network. Your phone can save encrypted recent locations while it is online. Depending on the mode you select, it may also use nearby participating Android devices to report a detection after the phone loses its connection.
A complete settings check proves that the relevant switches are enabled, that Find Hub recognizes the phone under the expected Google Account, and that Google Play has not hidden the device. If the phone is offline, the app may display only the last location saved while it was online. That is a historical location, not proof of where the phone is now.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Network finding also depends on conditions outside your control: the phone must support the feature, your selected mode must allow participation, and nearby Android devices must detect the lost phone or item. Google does not provide a controlled test that forces a live offline-network detection on demand.

Before you begin
- Have the Android phone available and unlocked, or know its screen-lock PIN, pattern, or password.
- Know which Google Account is intended to manage the device.
- Use the phone’s main profile if it has multiple user profiles. Google’s Find Hub check is based on the account in that main profile.
- Expect menu names to vary by Android version and manufacturer. Google’s documented setup includes steps that apply only to Android 14 and newer; if a menu is missing, use the phone maker’s current instructions rather than assuming the feature is unavailable.
Check the Google Account used by Find Hub
Confirm the account on the phone
- Open Settings.
- Open Passwords, passkeys and accounts (the wording may differ slightly).
- Confirm that the Google Account you expect to use with Find Hub is present.
If several accounts are listed, remember which one belongs to the phone you are checking. Later, sign in to Find Hub with that same account. A device listed under a different account can make a correctly configured phone appear to be missing.
Check the main profile on a shared device
On phones with multiple profiles, use the account attached to the main profile when checking Find Hub. A secondary profile can have its own accounts and settings, but Google’s guidance directs the Find Hub check to the main profile’s account.
Turn on Android Location
- Open Settings > Location.
- Turn on Use location.
Location access is a device-level control. Enabling it can make the phone’s location available to other apps and services according to the phone’s permissions and privacy controls. Review those controls if you do not want every permitted app to use location.

Enable Find Hub’s device-location switch
- Open Settings.
- Tap Security.
- Tap Find Hub.
- Make sure Allow device to be located is enabled.
This switch allows Find Hub to locate the phone through the service. It is separate from the general Location switch, so both must be on for the normal online-location workflow.
If the Find Hub entry is not under Security, search Settings for “Find Hub.” Some manufacturers move Google service controls to a Google section, and labels can differ by Android version.
Choose and understand an offline-finding mode
Open Settings > Google > All Services (if your Google settings use tabs), then choose Find Hub > Find your offline devices. Select the mode that matches your privacy and recovery needs. A screen-lock PIN, pattern, or password is required for the network to help you find your own offline items.

| Mode | Encrypted recent locations | Phone’s network participation | Where network finding is intended to help |
|---|---|---|---|
| Off | Not stored for this purpose. | The phone does not participate. | No crowdsourced offline finding. |
| Without network | Locations saved while the phone is online may still help you locate it later. | The phone does not participate in the crowdsourced network. | Uses the phone’s own stored recent location rather than nearby reports. |
| With network in busy places only | Recent locations are stored. | Participates in network finding in the selected circumstances. | Busy locations such as airports or crowded footpaths. Google describes reports as aggregated from multiple nearby Android devices in this mode. |
| With network everywhere | Recent locations are stored. | Participates broadly in the network. | Busy and remote areas, including situations in which the phone may be the only device reporting a detection. |
How to choose between the modes
- Choose Off when you do not want recent-location storage or network participation.
- Choose Without network when you want a stored recent location but do not want the phone to contribute to crowdsourced finding.
- Choose With network in busy places only when you want network assistance in places likely to have many participating Android devices.
- Choose With network everywhere when maximizing the chance of a network report in both populated and remote areas matters more than limiting participation.
Google’s privacy explanation says the busy-places mode aggregates locations from multiple nearby Android devices. The everywhere mode can work in locations where your phone is the only device reporting a detection. Neither setting promises a result: a compatible nearby device still has to detect the lost phone.
Why the screen lock matters
The PIN, pattern, or password is not just a general security recommendation here. Google says the network needs a screen lock to help the owner find the owner’s offline items. Set one before relying on network finding, and remember it if Find Hub asks you to authenticate while synchronizing a location.
Confirm that Find Hub lists the phone
- Open the Find Hub app, or go to android.com/find.
- Sign in with the Google Account you confirmed on the phone.
- Check the device list for the phone’s name or model.
- Select the phone and note whether Find Hub shows a current location, a recent location, or an inability to access location.
A listed device demonstrates that the account and service can see the phone. If it is online, Find Hub may show its current location. If it is offline, the map can show the most recent location saved while it was connected.
Check Google Play visibility
Google Play maintains a device list that controls whether a device can appear in Google services. Open the Google Play device list for the same account and make sure Show In Menus is selected for this phone. Google says a device hidden from Google Play will not be findable through Find Hub, even if other switches look correct.
How to interpret the result
The phone is online
An online phone can generally report its location through its active connection. The map result is still subject to the phone’s Location setting, account state, power, and connectivity, but it represents a current service request rather than an offline historical record.
The phone is offline
Find Hub may display the last location captured before the phone disconnected. Treat the timestamp and status as essential context: the marker identifies where the phone was last online, not necessarily where it is after being moved, powered down, or disconnected.
The phone appears in the list but has no usable location
Account visibility and location availability are separate. A listed device can still report “Can’t access location,” have no recent location to display, or require an account action before it can synchronize. Continue with the recovery steps below instead of removing and re-adding the phone immediately.

Use a careful, non-destructive test
You can verify the ordinary online path without pretending that it is an offline-network test. With the phone powered on and connected, open Find Hub on another device or at android.com/find and select the phone. Confirm that the device name, online status, and map location correspond to the phone’s current surroundings. This checks account selection, Google Play visibility, Location, and the device-location switch together.
Do not deliberately power down or factory-reset a phone simply to force a test. There is no official on-demand procedure that makes a second Android device report your handset while it is offline. A brief absence of a new marker therefore does not show that the setting is broken. It may only mean that no participating device detected the phone, that the model does not support the requested behavior, or that the displayed point is still the last encrypted location saved while the phone was online.
If you need to document the setup, record the selected offline mode, whether Bluetooth and Location are on, the Google Account used, and the time of the last location shown. Those notes make it easier to distinguish a configuration change from a normal stale-location result later.
Privacy and participation trade-offs
The four offline choices are not merely signal-strength settings. They change what the phone stores and whether it contributes to the shared finding network. Off disables both encrypted recent-location storage for this purpose and network participation. Without network retains recent locations made while online but does not let nearby devices contribute a detection. The two network choices retain recent locations and allow participation, with different geographic aims.
In busy-places mode, Google describes the network result as aggregated from multiple nearby Android devices. That mode is aimed at places such as airports and busy footpaths, where many devices may be present. Everywhere mode extends the intended coverage to remote areas and can include a case where the lost phone is the only device reporting a detection. Choosing one does not expose a guaranteed route to the phone; it changes the circumstances in which a report may be possible.
Review the selected mode whenever you change phones, reset security settings, or switch Google Accounts. A device can still appear in the Find Hub list after you choose a less capable mode, so list visibility alone does not tell you whether network participation is enabled.
Does Find Hub work when the phone is turned off?
Some supported devices can remain findable for a limited period after shutdown or battery depletion. Google specifically describes this behavior for supported models such as the Pixel 8 series. For those phones, select With network in busy places only or With network everywhere, and leave Bluetooth and Location enabled before the phone shuts down.

- Dual-System Compatibility: Our tracker tags work seamlessly with both iOS and Android systems, covering mainstream devices. This Bluetooth tracker pairs effortlessly with Apple's “Find My” or Google's “Find Hub” app without subscription fees. (Note: Cannot pair with iOS and Android devices simultaneously.)
- Device Sharing: Using new Android features or iOS 17, you can share air tracker tag access with others via Google Find Hub or the “Find” app, allowing them to view real-time location maps of your items.
- Privacy Protection: Both iOS and Android “Find” networks transmit data through encrypted, anonymous networks. No location information, history, or item-related data is stored, this dual system tracker ensuring comprehensive user privacy protection.
- High-Volume Alert: Close-Range Search—The app displays the distance to lost items (Bluetooth range up to 36 meters) to narrow your search area. Trigger an 80-100 decibel alert from the built-in speaker via Google Find Hub or Apple's Find My app—ideal for locating items in cluttered spaces like sofa crevices or drawers. Even if the item is out of sight, a single button press activates the smart tracker tag's alert.
- Simple Setup: This tracker for android or iOS pairs effortlessly with Android or iOS devices in seconds, automatically adapting to your chosen platform (connects to only one platform at a time).
This powered-off behavior is hardware-dependent and must not be assumed for every Android phone. A settings check can confirm that the mode is selected, but it cannot convert an unsupported model into a powered-off-findable device. Battery state, Bluetooth, Location, nearby participating devices, and the model’s hardware support all affect the result.
Fix “Sync recent location”
The Find Hub message Sync recent location means the service needs the phone to refresh its encrypted recent-location information. Work through these steps in order.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- In Find Hub, select the affected device and tap Sync recent location.
- Complete the screen-lock or Google Account prompt if one appears.
- Return to the device page and refresh the list.
If the location still does not synchronize, check the phone itself for an Account action required notification. Follow that notification, return to Find Hub, and refresh the device list again.
Fix “Can’t access location”
- Write down the current choice under Find your offline devices so you can restore it exactly.
- On the phone, open Settings > Google > All Services (if shown) > Find Hub > Find your offline devices.
- Temporarily select Off.
- Sign in or enter the screen lock if prompted.
- Return to the same menu and restore the mode you recorded.
- Open Find Hub and refresh the device list.
This reset forces the offline-finding preference to be registered again. It does not erase the phone or remove the Google Account. If the error remains, continue with the account, power, and visibility checks.
If the phone still does not appear
- Verify that Find Hub is using the same Google Account that is present on the phone.
- For multiple profiles, verify the account on the main profile.
- Confirm that the phone is powered on when you are testing ordinary online visibility.
- Check that Allow device to be located and Use location are enabled.
- Confirm that the device is visible in Google Play with Show In Menus selected.
- Refresh Find Hub after completing any account-action notification.
Google’s requirements for remotely securing or erasing a device also include power, mobile data or Wi-Fi, a Google Account, Find Hub turned on, and Google Play visibility. Those requirements describe remote secure and erase actions; they should not be treated as universal prerequisites for every offline-location mode. Offline finding can use an encrypted stored location or a nearby network detection when the phone itself is not connected.
Common mistakes that make a correct setup look broken
- Using the wrong account: The phone may be registered to one Google Account while the browser is signed in to another. Sign out or switch accounts at android.com/find before changing settings.
- Confusing a last location with a live location: An offline marker can remain at the last online point after the phone has moved.
- Checking only one switch: General Location and Allow device to be located are separate controls, and the offline mode is a third check.
- Ignoring Google Play visibility: A hidden device will not be findable through Find Hub even if it is otherwise configured.
- Testing from a secondary profile: Multiple-profile devices should be checked through the main profile’s account.
- Expecting every phone to support shutdown finding: Powered-off behavior is limited to supported hardware and is not implied by the presence of the menu.
- Removing the account too quickly: Resolve an account-action prompt and refresh before deleting or re-adding accounts.
Use Find Hub with an accessory
Find Hub can also work with compatible tracker tags attached to keys, a wallet, or another item. Compatibility varies by tag and phone, so check the tag’s specifications before relying on it. Adding a tag does not validate your phone’s own settings: complete the Location, device-location, account, and offline-mode checks separately.
A practical verification checklist
- Account: The intended Google Account is present under Passwords, passkeys and accounts.
- Profile: You are checking the account on the main profile when multiple profiles exist.
- Location: Settings > Location > Use location is on.
- Find Hub switch: Settings > Security > Find Hub > Allow device to be located is on.
- Offline mode: The selected mode under Find your offline devices matches the behavior you want.
- Screen lock: A PIN, pattern, or password is configured.
- Visibility: The device appears in Find Hub and is not hidden in Google Play.
- Powered-off support: If you rely on shutdown finding, verify that the phone model is one Google supports and that Bluetooth and Location were enabled beforehand.
- Expectation: An offline map marker is understood as a last-online location unless a new network detection is reported.
When every item passes, the phone is configured correctly for the selected behavior. The remaining uncertainty is environmental: whether the hardware supports the requested feature and whether participating Android devices detect the phone after it goes offline.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check if Find Hub can find my phone offline?
Confirm that Location is on, Allow device to be located is on, and the intended option is selected under Find your offline devices. Then verify that the phone appears under the correct Google Account in the Find Hub app or at android.com/find. This confirms configuration and visibility, not a guaranteed offline detection.
Why does Find Hub show my phone’s old location?
When the phone is offline, Find Hub may be showing the last encrypted location saved while it was online. Check the timestamp and status; the marker is not proof that the phone remains at that place.
Does Find Hub work when my phone is turned off?
Only some supported models provide a limited powered-off finding period. Google identifies supported devices such as the Pixel 8 series. The applicable network mode must be selected, and Bluetooth and Location must have been on before shutdown.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Why is my phone listed in Find Hub but location is unavailable?
Listing confirms account and service visibility, but not a usable location. Try Sync recent location, complete any Account action required notification, and refresh. If necessary, temporarily set the offline mode to Off and restore it.
Do I need a screen lock for offline finding?
Yes. Google says a PIN, pattern, or password is needed for the network to help the owner find their own offline items.
Which offline mode should I choose?
Choose Without network for stored recent locations without crowdsourced participation. Choose With network in busy places only for network assistance aimed at busy areas, or With network everywhere when remote-area coverage is also important. Choose Off to disable both functions.
Why can’t I see my phone at android.com/find?
Check that you are signed in with the phone’s Google Account, that the account belongs to the main profile on a multi-profile phone, and that the device is visible in Google Play with Show In Menus selected. Also verify power, Location, and the Find Hub device-location switch.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCan I test offline finding on demand?
No controlled test guarantees that another Android device will detect your phone while it is offline. You can verify the online path safely, but a missing network report does not by itself indicate a configuration failure.
The Bottom Line
Turn on Location and Allow device to be located, select the appropriate Find your offline devices mode, use a screen lock, and confirm the phone is listed under the correct Google Account and visible in Google Play. Treat an offline marker as a last-online location unless a new network detection appears, and remember that hardware support and nearby participating devices determine whether offline finding succeeds.
