To trade in an old Samsung phone in the US, check its model and condition in Samsung’s current trade-in selector, review the quoted credit and order deadline, then remove your data and anti-theft locks before shipping it. Eligibility is not guaranteed just because the phone turns on: Samsung also checks ownership, blacklist status, battery, display, charging, and components. Offers and eligible models can change, so use the live quote for your specific phone.
Check whether Samsung will accept your phone
Start with Samsung’s live trade-in selector. Choose the manufacturer, exact model, and condition, then review the offer and terms attached to your order. Samsung determines eligibility under its program terms, and eligible models and values can change over time. The program described here is Samsung’s US program; terms in other countries may differ.

- Have a functioning display without black spots or pixelation.
- Have no disqualifying cracks, water damage, excessive defects, corroded contacts, or swollen or damaged battery.
- Be owned by the person trading it in; leased phones are excluded.
- Not be blacklisted.
- Have anti-theft locks disabled and be factory-reset with personal data removed.
- Have a US FCC ID, a functioning charging port that supports charging and data transfer, and original manufacturer components and identifiers.

Can you trade in a Samsung phone with a cracked screen?
Sometimes. Samsung may offer trade-in for certain cracked devices, but a cracked phone qualifies only when the offer selected for that exact model and condition explicitly allows it. Other eligibility requirements still apply. Confirm the condition choice and credit shown at checkout rather than assuming that any cracked phone will be accepted. To decide whether to trade in, compare the displayed Samsung credit with the actual new-phone price and any other offers you can independently obtain. Consider whether the credit depends on buying a qualifying device or meeting promotion terms, what condition the offer accepts, and whether inspection could change the final amount. Samsung’s published materials establish its own program terms; they do not establish how its offer compares with carrier trade-ins or private-sale proceeds.

Prepare your phone before shipping
Take these steps before handing the phone over. Samsung says it assumes no responsibility for personal information left on a trade-in device.
- Save what you need. Back up or transfer photos, messages, files, and other data you want to keep.
- Remove personal information and accounts. Follow the instructions for your specific model, including Samsung’s guidance for disabling Reactivation Lock, Google Factory Reset Protection, and other anti-theft locks.
- Factory-reset the phone. Confirm the reset is complete before shipment. Use the model-specific instructions available through Samsung’s trade-in FAQ.
- Follow the shipping instructions for your order. Samsung directs customers to the instructions in the FAQ, My Orders page, or Trade-In Welcome Email. Check those instructions for the packaging and shipment process that applies to you.
Meet the trade-in shipping deadline
Use the deadline in your order’s current instructions. The Samsung US offers page currently describes a 15-day period after receipt of the qualifying purchase to send the trade-in device. It says Samsung may charge back the applied credit if the device is late or inspection finds it ineligible. Samsung’s trade-in page says a rejected device is returned at no cost upon request. Follow the return procedure in the instructions for your order, and keep an eye on Samsung’s email updates during review. The order terms govern the applicable process and any chargeback; the offers page describes a chargeback when a device is late or found ineligible.
