Sometimes. A Lenovo tablet can make ordinary cellular calls only when its exact model and regional version support cellular voice calling and a compatible carrier provisions service for it. A SIM slot or LTE connection alone does not guarantee that. If your tablet lacks cellular voice support, you may still be able to make voice or video calls through an app over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Can a Lenovo tablet make regular phone calls?
It depends on the tablet’s configuration and the carrier. Lenovo’s guidance is to check the tablet’s User Guide for LTE or Voice over LTE (VoLTE) support. If the device supports voice calls over cellular and the carrier supports that device and service, calls may be possible through a SIM. Lenovo’s guidance is not a guarantee that every tablet or carrier supports the feature. Lenovo Support Singapore and Lenovo Support US describe the general check.
Keep cellular voice separate from app-based calling. A tablet may connect to mobile data without supporting ordinary carrier voice calls. Apps can provide voice or video calls over an internet connection, but their availability and requirements depend on the app, region, and contacts you want to reach.

- Identify the exact model and region. Find the model number on the device, packaging, or Lenovo account. A family name alone, such as Tab M9, does not identify every hardware configuration.
- Check Lenovo’s specifications and User Guide. Look for a WWAN/cellular model and an explicit reference to voice calling or LTE voice/VoLTE. A SIM slot or LTE/5G data specification by itself is not proof of cellular voice support. Lenovo directs users to the User Guide for the LTE or VoLTE check. See Lenovo’s tablet FAQ.
- Confirm carrier compatibility. Ask the carrier whether it supports voice calling on your exact tablet model and regional variant, and whether your service will be provisioned for it. Local operator networks and services can affect whether voice calling works. Lenovo’s Tab M9 reference notes this qualification.
- Decide whether app calling meets your needs. If cellular voice is unavailable, choose an app that supports the people you need to call and works in your region. Check the app’s current documentation for account, number, and calling requirements; Lenovo’s examples do not establish that every app supports every calling workflow.
Why tablet variants matter: the Lenovo Tab M9 example
Lenovo’s Tab M9 reference distinguishes WWAN configurations, which have a nano-SIM plus microSD slot, from WLAN configurations, which have a microSD slot only. The same reference lists variants with and without voice-call support and cautions that local operator and service conditions may affect the feature. This illustrates why a product-family name is not enough to establish whether a particular device can make calls. Review the Tab M9 reference and verify the exact model and region with Lenovo and your carrier.

If cellular calling is not supported
Use an internet-based voice or video calling app if it fits your needs. Lenovo lists Skype, WhatsApp, and WeChat as examples for tablets without a SIM facility. Those examples are not a guarantee of current availability or of support for every country, contact, or phone-number workflow; check each service’s current requirements. A headset may make calls more convenient, but it does not add cellular voice capability to the tablet. Lenovo’s FAQ discusses app-based calling alternatives.
