Free Play Days has no event-wide progress meter documented by Xbox. Check your progress in the game itself, and before ending a session, stay online long enough for the game’s save to sync. If you later buy the game, Xbox says you can continue and keep the Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event; whether a particular save or checkpoint carries over depends on the game and successful save synchronization.
How to check your Free Play Days progress
Open the game and look for its own progress display, such as a save or continue menu, checkpoint, quest log, or career screen. The Xbox event listing explains how to find participating games but does not describe a shared Xbox progress percentage or event tracker.
- On an Xbox console, open the Xbox Store, go to Subscriptions, and find the Free Play Days collection. You can also open the game’s detail page and install it from the Microsoft Store while signed in.
- Launch the game and check its in-game menus or status screens for your progress and most recent save.
Free Play Days is time-limited, and participating games, membership requirements, and availability can vary by event and region. Check the current listing rather than relying on an older event announcement. For example, Xbox’s June 4, 2026 announcement described one past event running June 4–7, with access for Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members to listed titles, plus a separate Descenders console offer for all Xbox players. How to give your save the best chance to sync
Xbox cloud saves are separate from the temporary permission to launch a Free Play Days game. Microsoft’s developer documentation describes saves being stored locally during play and uploaded when the device has a network connection, including an upload attempt when a session ends. - Play while signed in to the Xbox account you intend to use when you return.
- Before closing the game, connect to Xbox network if you have been offline.
- End the session and wait for any save or sync activity to finish. If the game or console presents a sync prompt, read it before choosing an option.
- If you see a conflict between local and cloud saves, compare the available timestamps or progress details if shown. Choose the copy that contains your latest progress; do not select one simply because it is labeled local or cloud.
Microsoft’s documented sync flow checks ownership and compares local and cloud save timestamps. A changed local copy can upload; a changed cloud copy can download. If both have changed, the system may ask you to resolve the conflict. The exact menus and save behavior can vary by game.
What happens when Free Play Days access ends?
When the event window closes, you may need to buy the game or have another current entitlement to launch it. Xbox’s June 2026 event announcement says that purchasing a participating game lets you continue playing while keeping the Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event. For a save or checkpoint, the practical question is whether the title has saved and synced your progress and whether you return with the right account and compatible game version. General Xbox save documentation explains the sync system, but cannot establish the exact post-event behavior of an unnamed game.

Will your progress carry to another Xbox or to PC?
Returning on another device is conditional on the game’s support and setup. Microsoft’s policy documentation describes save roaming in specified Xbox cases, including supported same-platform and cross-generation scenarios, and says cross-platform roaming applies to games designated Xbox Play Anywhere. Microsoft also says Play Anywhere game progress is saved with the gamertag for continuation on another device. These rules do not mean every Free Play Days title supports every kind of cross-progression.

- Check the account. Make sure you are signed in to the same Xbox account used during Free Play Days.
- Give sync a chance. Connect to the network and allow the game or console to complete any pending save or sync operation.
- Handle conflicts carefully. If offered a choice between local and cloud copies, use timestamps or visible progress to identify the newer save before deciding.
- Check the game and edition. A different platform, edition, or TitleID can affect whether progress roams. Confirm the selected game’s support, especially for Xbox-to-PC continuation.
Because the title and platform are not specified, there is no reliable general answer for a particular game’s checkpoint retention or cross-progression. Its own save design and current platform support determine those details.
