To find out whether Fortnite is down, start at Epic Games Public Status. Open the Fortnite section, check the overall indicator, then inspect individual services such as login, matchmaking, parties and messaging, voice chat, stats and leaderboards, the item shop, and Fortnite Crew. For planned downtime, open the scheduled-maintenance or incident entry and use its UTC timestamps and current state rather than guessing how long the interruption will last.
If the dashboard does not explain your problem, compare it with @FortniteStatus on X and Epic’s live-issues and known-issues support pages. Epic also says that in-game emergency messaging may appear about 24 hours before planned downtime.
Use Epic’s live status page first
Epic Games Public Status is the authoritative first check for a Fortnite outage. It shows Fortnite as a service and breaks the service into components, so you can distinguish a complete outage from a problem affecting only one feature. That distinction matters: matchmaking can be impaired while the rest of Fortnite remains operational, or login can be unavailable even though an item-shop component is working normally.
- Go to status.epicgames.com.
- Locate the Fortnite section rather than relying only on the page-wide summary.
- Read the top-level Fortnite status indicator.
- Scan the component rows for the feature that matches your symptom.
- Open any incident or scheduled-maintenance card and read its state, timestamps, and updates.
- If no matching event appears, check @FortniteStatus on X and Epic’s live-issues or known-issues pages.
- For planned downtime, look for the in-game emergency message as well; Epic says it can be posted approximately 24 hours before the outage.
Keep the original UTC time shown by Epic before converting it to your own time zone. Recording the source time prevents confusion when an announcement is reposted in local time or when daylight-saving rules change.

What each Fortnite status means
The public dashboard distinguishes several states. Read the label together with the affected component and the incident text; the label alone does not tell you whether a fix is already being deployed.
| Status shown | How to interpret it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Operational | Epic is reporting normal service for that scope. | Check a more specific component and the official incident channels if your symptom continues. |
| Degraded performance | The service is available, but users may see slow, unreliable, or intermittent behavior. | Read the incident details and updates; repeated retries can make a temporary problem look worse. |
| Partial outage | One part of the service is unavailable while other parts may continue working. | Match your symptom to the affected component, such as login or matchmaking. |
| Major outage | A broad or severe interruption is affecting the service. | Use Epic’s updates for scope and recovery progress instead of repeatedly reinstalling or changing settings. |
| Maintenance | Epic has taken the service offline or restricted it for planned or emergency work. | Open the maintenance entry and follow its UTC schedule and state changes. |
A green overall Fortnite indicator does not rule out a component-level issue. Always expand or scan the individual rows before concluding that the problem is on your end.
Check the component that matches your symptom
Fortnite’s status view can list several separate functions. Use the symptom-to-component match below as a reading guide, not as a substitute for the live labels on the dashboard.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

If you cannot sign in, begin with the login row. A login incident can prevent access even when matchmaking, voice chat, or the item shop are shown as operational. Note whether the row is degraded, partially unavailable, or under maintenance, and read the incident update for the latest scope.
Matchmaking
If you enter a queue but cannot find a match, or matchmaking repeatedly fails, inspect the matchmaking component. A matchmaking-only problem can leave the game launchable and social features usable while preventing a match from starting.
Parties, friends, and messaging
Party invitations, friend presence, and messaging can be represented separately from login and matchmaking. If you can log in but cannot join friends or send messages, compare those rows with the overall Fortnite status.

Voice chat
Voice chat problems do not necessarily indicate that Fortnite itself is offline. Check the voice-chat component and the incident scope before treating an audio failure as a full server outage.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Stats and leaderboards
Unavailable or delayed statistics can be isolated from gameplay access. If matches load but results, rankings, or statistics do not update, inspect this component for a separate incident.
Item shop
The item shop may have its own status row. A shop outage does not by itself explain a login or matchmaking failure, so compare the row with the feature you are actually trying to use.
Fortnite Crew and other listed services
Fortnite Crew and any additional rows on the current dashboard should be read in the same way: identify the component, check its state, and open the associated incident if one exists. The list can change as Epic adds or reorganizes services.
How to read a scheduled-maintenance entry
When Epic plans downtime, the status page normally provides an event card with a schedule and progress updates. Open the card instead of relying on a headline, a social post, or a fixed-duration assumption.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUnderstand the event states
- Scheduled: Epic has announced a planned event and supplied an expected start time.
- In progress: The maintenance window has begun and the service may be unavailable.
- Verifying: Epic is checking the deployment or service before declaring the event complete. Access may still be restricted.
- Completed: The listed maintenance event has ended according to the status system.
Read the latest update inside the event, because the state can change without changing the original scheduled start. A scheduled time is an announcement of when work is expected to begin, not a promise that every player will be back in the game at that exact time.

Use the UTC timestamps as the source of truth
Epic publishes maintenance times in UTC. Write down the UTC start and any stated end or completion time first, then convert those values to your local zone. If you convert before recording the original, a date change or daylight-saving adjustment can make the schedule difficult to verify.
For a personal conversion, add or subtract your time-zone offset from UTC and check whether the local date changes. A maintenance event that begins late at night in one region can begin on the following calendar day elsewhere. If your region observes daylight saving time, use the offset that applies on the event date rather than a generic winter or summer offset.
Example: Fortnite v42.30
Epic’s status history records “Fortnite: Downtime for v42.30 Update” on October 1, 2026. The event was scheduled for 08:00 UTC and was marked completed at 10:31 UTC. The entry also shows the progression from a scheduled notice to an in-progress update and then a completed update.
This 2-hour-31-minute interval is an observed event record, not a standard Fortnite maintenance length. Use it to understand how the status timeline works, but do not apply it as a forecast for another update. The next event may finish earlier or later depending on deployment and verification.
When the dashboard does not explain the problem
Epic’s own support guidance says to check Epic Games Public Status and the FortniteStatus account periodically for the latest information. Use those sources in an order that reflects their scope and authority.
- Recheck Epic Games Public Status. Refresh the Fortnite section and look for a newly created incident or a component that changed state.
- Check @FortniteStatus on X. Official posts can acknowledge an emerging incident before a detailed dashboard entry appears, or provide a short operational update while the status card is being edited.
- Read Epic’s live-issues page. Epic directs players there for current issues and links it with the public status page and FortniteStatus account.
- Check known-issues and mode-specific information. A problem limited to one mode or feature may not be represented as a global Fortnite outage.
- Compare timestamps. Prefer the newest update, but keep the original UTC event time so you can tell whether a post is announcing the incident, reporting progress, or confirming recovery.
Do not treat an older social post or a search-result snippet as proof that servers are still down. The current dashboard state and the newest official update have priority.

| What you observe | What the official status can tell you | Most useful next check |
|---|---|---|
| Login fails and the Login row shows an outage or maintenance state. | Epic is reporting a service-side authentication problem that can affect many players. | Read the incident update and wait for a state change. |
| Only matchmaking fails while login and other rows are operational. | The issue may be limited to matchmaking rather than all Fortnite services. | Open the matchmaking incident and monitor its updates. |
| Voice chat or parties fail while the overall service is operational. | A social or voice component may be impaired independently. | Inspect the corresponding component row and official issue channels. |
| Your symptom continues while every relevant row is operational and no incident is listed. | Epic is not currently reporting a matching broad outage. | Check for a newly emerging issue on FortniteStatus and Epic’s live-issues or known-issues pages, then investigate the affected platform or connection. |
| An incident is marked completed but access still fails. | The recorded event has ended, but recovery can take time to reach every service path or platform. | Refresh the status page, read the completion update, and look for a follow-up incident. |
The status page cannot diagnose every account, platform, or network problem. Its value is establishing whether Epic is reporting a matching service condition. If no matching condition exists, avoid assuming that a single failed session proves a global outage.
Planned downtime notices and the 24-hour warning
Epic says, “In-game emergency messaging will be posted ~24 hours before a planned downtime.” Treat that as an advance notice channel, not a guarantee that every player will see the message at exactly the same moment. Check the public status page for the authoritative UTC schedule once the event is announced.
Emergency messaging is particularly useful when you are already in the game and want to know whether an upcoming interruption is intentional. It does not replace the status dashboard: the dashboard supplies the event state, component scope, and timestamped progress updates.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why uptime history cannot answer “Is Fortnite down now?”
Epic’s uptime-history view shows retrospective availability, not the current state of the service. The Fortnite history displays 100% uptime for August 2026, September 2026, and October 2026. Those monthly figures describe the recorded past and cannot guarantee that Fortnite is operational at this moment or that a short incident will not occur later.
Use uptime history to understand historical reporting, not to decide whether to keep waiting during a live login or matchmaking failure. For a current answer, return to the live Fortnite indicator and its component rows.

A practical status-check routine
When Fortnite stops working, the following routine keeps the diagnosis tied to evidence and prevents schedule confusion.
- Write down the exact symptom: failure to sign in, inability to enter matchmaking, missing friends, silent voice chat, unavailable statistics, or an item-shop problem.
- Open the Fortnite section at Epic Games Public Status.
- Record the top-level state and the state of the component that matches your symptom.
- Open any incident card and note whether it is scheduled, in progress, verifying, or completed.
- Copy the displayed UTC timestamp before converting it to local time.
- Check @FortniteStatus and Epic’s live-issues or known-issues pages if the dashboard has no matching explanation.
- If maintenance is planned, check the in-game emergency message and compare its notice with the dashboard schedule.
- Refresh after an official update, because the state can move from scheduled to in progress, verifying, and completed as work proceeds.
This process answers the three questions players usually have: whether Epic is reporting an outage, which feature is affected, and whether a scheduled return time is an estimate or a completed event.
How to compare conflicting status reports
When a dashboard, social post, and user report appear to disagree, compare four attributes rather than choosing the most reassuring statement:
Recommended Free Tools
- Authority: use Epic Games Public Status first, followed by Epic’s support information and @FortniteStatus.
- Timestamp basis: determine whether the time is UTC or a converted local time.
- Scope: distinguish the overall Fortnite service from a component such as login or matchmaking.
- Event state: separate scheduled, in-progress, verifying, and completed notices.
A user may report that the game works while another reports a failure because they are using different components, platforms, regions, or moments in the incident timeline. The official scope and timestamp explain that apparent contradiction better than a simple yes-or-no label.
What to expect when servers come back
Recovery is reflected by the incident state and the affected component, not merely by the passage of the announced start or end time. During a deployment, Epic may post an in-progress update; during validation, it may mark the event verifying; only a completed state indicates that the recorded maintenance event has ended.
If one feature returns before another, read each component independently. For example, login may recover while matchmaking remains degraded. Continue using the component-specific row and the newest official update instead of treating partial recovery as a full restoration.
Quick Recap
Quick checklist
- Start at Epic Games Public Status.
- Read both the overall Fortnite state and the relevant component.
- Open the incident or scheduled-maintenance entry.
- Use UTC timestamps and convert them only after recording the original.
- Check whether the event is scheduled, in progress, verifying, or completed.
- Cross-check @FortniteStatus and Epic’s live-issues or known-issues pages when the dashboard is incomplete.
- Remember that uptime history is retrospective, not a live guarantee.
