Sign in to your AT&T account through the official app or website, then compare the bill, orders, wireless lines, devices, add-ons, profile details, and account users with what you authorized. If you find an order, charge, or account change you did not approve, report it to AT&T Global Fraud Management using the channel for your service, then secure the account and consider Wireless Account Lock for wireless lines.
How do I check for unauthorized activity on my AT&T account?
Start with account access, not just payment history. A takeover can involve a password reset, a new shipping address, an added user, a device transaction, or a new wireless line even when the latest payment looks normal. Use a trusted route: open the AT&T app you already have installed or type AT&T’s address into your browser yourself. Do not use a link in an unexpected email or text.
1. Review the current bill and recent transactions
Open the latest bill and compare every line item with your records. Check the total, one-time charges, installment charges, taxes and fees, add-ons, premium or third-party items, and any payment method or billing-address change. Look at more than the amount due: an unfamiliar device installment or service feature can reveal an account change before a large balance appears.
2. Check orders, lines, devices, and add-ons
Review order history and the equipment or services attached to the account. Look for a phone, tablet, hotspot, SIM or eSIM activity, upgrade, replacement, accessory, new line, number transfer, or shipping destination you do not recognize. Check whether an add-on or feature was enabled, removed, or changed. A legitimate promotion or plan change can alter the bill, so compare the entry with emails, receipts, and store visits you remember.

3. Inspect profile and security settings
Confirm that the account holder’s name, service address, billing address, recovery email, phone numbers, account ID, and notification preferences are correct. Review the account passcode and any extra-security passcode. Account passcodes are used when you visit a store or call; an extra-security passcode is used for online wireless sign-in. If either was changed without your approval, treat that as an account-security event.
4. Review every person who can manage the account
Check secondary online users and retail authorized users. Remove anyone who should no longer have access and investigate names you do not recognize. An authorized user can sometimes make changes that appear ordinary in the activity history, so an unfamiliar user is important even if no charge has posted.
5. Check outside signs of an account you did not open
If you never opened an AT&T account but receive a collection notice or see an unfamiliar AT&T account on your credit report, AT&T identifies those as possible ways unauthorized service can be discovered. Preserve the notice or credit-report entry and include it when you contact fraud support. Do not assume that the absence of an email means no account exists.
A practical account-audit procedure
- Prepare a record. Note the date and time, the account or wireless number involved, the charge or change, and what you expected to see. Save bills, order confirmations, screenshots, shipping details, and collection letters.
- Enter through a trusted sign-in. Use the AT&T app or a browser address you entered yourself. If the page unexpectedly asks for a verification code, stop and confirm that you are in the official app or site before continuing.
- Start with the bill. Mark each unfamiliar amount, recurring feature, device installment, line, or payment detail. Record the bill date and the service to which it belongs.
- Move to account activity. Inspect orders, upgrades, SIM or eSIM events, number changes or transfers, new lines, plan changes, add-ons, and shipping or service addresses.
- Audit access. Review the password or user ID, account and extra-security passcodes, recovery contacts, secondary online users, and retail authorized users.
- Classify each finding. A normal store visit, a documented promotion, or a plan change may explain an unexpected amount. An order, charge, or account change you did not approve should be handled as suspected fraud.
- Secure access before investigating further. Change credentials and passcodes from a trusted device, correct recovery details, and remove unauthorized users. If your phone suddenly loses service or you see an unexpected SIM or eSIM prompt, contact AT&T immediately because the number may have been moved to another device.
- Report through the correct channel. Use the service-specific AT&T fraud route below rather than waiting for the next bill.
Unexpected does not always mean unauthorized
AT&T distinguishes a billing surprise from a transaction the customer did not approve. Use the explanation and support route that matches the evidence.

Do not label a charge fraudulent solely because it is unfamiliar. First compare it with the account’s order history, promotion terms, receipts, and any plan change you requested. Conversely, do not dismiss a change as a billing error when the underlying order, user, shipping address, or recovery contact is not yours.
How do I report an AT&T account change I didn’t authorize?
Report an unapproved order, charge, or account change to AT&T Global Fraud Management as soon as you identify it. The contact depends on the service involved.

Contact details and app labels can change, so confirm the current number or reporting page on AT&T’s support site when you publish or use this guide. If the phone number appears to have been illegally transferred, do not wait for a billing investigation; contact AT&T immediately and explain that you suspect a SIM or eSIM takeover.

Secure the account after a suspicious finding
Change the password and account ID safely
Change a password that may have been exposed and make the replacement unique to AT&T. If the account ID is easy to guess, change it as well. Do this from a trusted device and avoid reusing the new password on email, banking, or other important services. If you cannot sign in because someone changed the credentials, tell fraud support that the login itself is compromised.

Reset and verify passcodes
Change the account passcode and the extra-security passcode if either may have been disclosed or altered. Confirm that the recovery email address and phone numbers belong to you. An attacker who controls a recovery contact can regain access after you change the password.
Remove unrecognized users and permissions
Review secondary online users and retail authorized users again after changing credentials. Remove access that is no longer needed and record the names of any users you do not recognize. Tell AT&T fraud support if an unauthorized person was able to authorize changes.
Be careful with verification codes
AT&T states: “We won’t ask you to read back a passcode or PIN used to sign in as you.” Never read a verification code to someone who unexpectedly calls or texts, and do not follow links in unexpected messages. If you already shared a code or passcode, change the password and account-security passcode immediately, verify recovery contacts, and review who can authorize changes.
Warning signs of account takeover or SIM/eSIM takeover
AT&T describes account takeover as someone using a stolen password or a fake sign-in page to enter an account and change settings, place orders, or update contact information. A SIM or eSIM takeover can move your number to another device, allowing the attacker to receive calls, texts, and sign-in codes.

- Sudden “No service” on a phone that normally works
- An unexpected SIM or eSIM activation prompt
- Password-reset emails you did not request
- Changed billing, recovery, or shipping addresses
- Orders, lines, devices, add-ons, or authorized users you do not recognize
- Verification messages or calls that do not match an action you started
These signs are reasons to check promptly, not proof by themselves. A local outage can cause “No service,” and a legitimate password reset can generate an email. Verify the event against your account history and contact AT&T if the explanation does not fit.

Wireless Account Lock is a free feature in the AT&T app for AT&T Wireless service. When enabled, it disables specified wireless device, line, and account transactions. AT&T lists SIM or eSIM changes, number changes or transfers, adding or removing wireless lines, authorized-user changes, and billing-information changes among the transactions it can block.
It is a containment setting, not an audit log and not a substitute for reporting suspected fraud. Enable it after you regain control of the account, or use it proactively when you want an additional barrier against selected wireless changes.

- Open the AT&T app on an active wireless device.
- Select the person icon.
- Choose Wireless account lock.
- Swipe to lock the account. To reverse it, return to the same setting and tap Unlock the account.
AT&T sends a confirmation email and text messages to active wireless numbers when the setting changes. Primary and secondary users can turn the lock on or off, so review who has those permissions. If the lock is enabled and transaction options are grayed out, AT&T says the feature may be blocking those changes.

What Wireless Account Lock does not cover
- It applies to AT&T Wireless devices and lines, not non-wireless AT&T services such as internet or phone service.
- It does not investigate an earlier fraudulent order, reverse a charge, or replace a fraud claim.
- Standalone data-only tablets or hotspots and Wireless Home Phones may require you to contact AT&T or visit a store for assistance.
- Because primary and secondary users can control the setting, an unauthorized user with valid account access may still be a concern; remove that access and report the incident.
If your number may have been transferred
A suspected SIM or eSIM takeover is time-sensitive because the attacker may receive calls, text messages, and sign-in codes intended for you. Use another phone or connection if necessary to contact AT&T, state that the number may have been illegally transferred, and ask for help restoring control. Change the AT&T password and security passcode, verify recovery contacts, and review recent orders and user changes after service is restored. Do not rely on text-message verification alone while the number is unavailable.
Keep an evidence and follow-up record
Maintain a simple timeline containing the first warning sign, each account change, the time you changed credentials, the fraud-report date, claim or reference numbers, and every promised follow-up. Keep copies of bills, emails, screenshots, shipping details, collection notices, and credit-report entries. This prevents you from having to reconstruct events if AT&T asks for dates or if a later bill contains a related charge.
Recheck the next available bill and account activity after the credentials and users are corrected. Look specifically for a recurring add-on, device installment, replacement SIM, new line, or address change that was not present during the first review. Continue to treat any new unapproved transaction as a separate item to report, even if an earlier fraud claim is still open.

Consumer and business-account differences
The guidance and app paths described here are for consumer AT&T services. Business accounts can have different administrators, approval workflows, screens, and support contacts. If the account belongs to an employer or organization, notify the designated account administrator and use the business support or fraud process for that account rather than assuming the consumer Wireless Account Lock controls are available.
