Use Google’s official Fitbit warranty-claim guide first. Your purchase date determines which terms to open: purchases made on or after July 11, 2023 go to the Google Hardware Warranty Center; earlier purchases use the Fitbit Limited Warranty. In either path, select the country where the Fitbit was purchased, not simply the country where you live now.
Google says warranty rules vary by country or region, accidental damage is excluded, and Fitbit repairs are not available. A qualifying in-warranty defect may lead to a replacement after a checkup. For an out-of-warranty or excluded problem, Google Support can tell you whether any out-of-warranty service option is available for your device and country.
Start with the purchase date
The date on your receipt is the first decision point. Do not apply the older Fitbit warranty periods to a later purchase just because the device is branded Fitbit.

The warranty center is the authoritative check for a particular post–July 11, 2023 purchase. Its result can differ by device, country, product condition and claim circumstances.

How to check your Fitbit warranty online
- Open the official claim guide. Go to Google Health Help’s “File a warranty claim for your Fitbit device.” The page routes newer purchases to the Google Hardware Warranty Center and older purchases to the Fitbit Limited Warranty.
- Identify the purchase date. Use the date of the original retail purchase, as shown on an invoice, receipt or order record. If you do not know the date, look for the retailer’s order history before starting a claim.
- Select the correct product path. For a purchase on or after July 11, 2023, open the Google Hardware Warranty Center and choose Fitbit hardware. For an earlier purchase, read the Fitbit Limited Warranty instead of assuming the newer center’s terms apply.
- Choose the purchase country or region. Enter the country associated with the transaction. Google states that warranty terms vary by country or region, and a product bought elsewhere remains subject to the warranty supplied with that product.
- Read the device-specific terms. Check the coverage period, covered defects, exclusions, documentation requirements and available remedy. Save or print the result with your receipt details.
- Record the claim information. Note the model, serial number, purchase date, retailer, purchase country and the exact fault. This prevents a support conversation from being based on the wrong regional terms.
Why the purchase country matters
Warranty rights follow the original sale
Your current location does not automatically determine the warranty. Google’s claim guide cautions that a device purchased in another country remains subject to the warranty supplied with that product. A Fitbit bought while traveling, imported from another market or received from an overseas retailer may therefore have different terms from a locally purchased unit.
Support can be limited after a move
Google also warns that support may be limited when a product was not sold in the country or region where you now live. That does not by itself cancel the original warranty, but it can affect available shipping, replacement inventory, service channels or local consumer-law remedies. Always start with the purchase country in the warranty checker and tell support where the device was bought.
When the retailer and delivery country differ
Use the country tied to the sale and the warranty supplied with the product. If an online retailer billed you in one country but shipped from another, keep the invoice and ask support which country’s terms govern that serial number. Do not select a country merely because its warranty period appears longer.

New products
The legacy page states “one (1) year from the date of purchase” for new Fitbit products. The clock is tied to the purchase date, not the date you first paired or activated the tracker.
EEA purchases
For an EEA resident who purchased the product in the EEA, the legacy page states “two (2) years from the date of purchase.” Both the buyer’s residence and the purchase location matter; do not extend this period to every European purchase or every person who later moves to the EEA.
Fitbit-certified refurbished products
The legacy terms state “ninety (90) days from the date of purchase” for Fitbit-certified refurbished products. A used device sold by an unrelated retailer may have different terms, so verify the product’s status and keep the seller’s description.
Statutory rights remain relevant
The legacy warranty says statutory rights may remain and that exclusions can depend on local law. A manufacturer warranty is not necessarily the only remedy available to you. If the checker says the voluntary warranty has ended, consult the terms and consumer rules for the country of purchase rather than assuming every right has disappeared.

What Fitbit warranty coverage usually addresses
Defects covered by the applicable terms
A warranty claim is designed for a defect covered by the terms for your device and purchase country—for example, a hardware failure that occurs within the stated period and is not caused by an exclusion. The exact definition, evidence and remedy come from the country-specific terms, so use the checker’s wording rather than relying on a generic description of “defective.”
Accidental damage is excluded
Google’s current claim guide states: “Accidental damage isn’t covered under warranty.” Drops, impact, crushed cases and similar incidents should therefore not be presented as ordinary manufacturing defects. Tell support what happened; they can explain whether any separate out-of-warranty option exists.
Other exclusions in the older warranty
The legacy Fitbit Limited Warranty lists exclusions including:
- Cosmetic damage that does not affect function.
- Normal wear and tear.
- Batteries and other consumable parts.
- Damage caused by accidents, misuse or improper use.
- Damage or faults resulting from unauthorized repair or modification.
The list above describes the older warranty text. The terms for a later purchase may be different, and local law can modify how an exclusion operates. Read the terms attached to your own purchase before deciding that a claim is covered or rejected.

Fitbit repair, replacement and out-of-warranty service
Google says repairs are unavailable
Google Store Help states: “Fitbit: Repairs aren’t available for these devices.” In practical terms, do not expect a standard mail-in repair estimate or a parts-and-labor repair menu for a Fitbit. The official route is a warranty-status check and support assessment.
What an in-warranty claim can produce
Google’s claim guide says an eligible covered device may be sent for a checkup and replaced if it is found to be defective. Replacement is a possible warranty remedy, not an automatic promise for every complaint. Follow the instructions for your country and keep the original device until support tells you how to proceed.
What happens when the claim is out of warranty
For an expired, excluded or otherwise uncovered claim, contact Google Support to troubleshoot and ask whether the device qualifies for out-of-warranty service through the Google Store. The guide does not promise that service will be available. Eligibility can depend on the model, country, condition and current support policies.

- Serial number: Find the device serial number before opening the claim.
- Contact details: Have your name, email address, telephone number and shipping information available.
- Proof of purchase: Keep the receipt, invoice or order confirmation. Support may request it.
- Purchase facts: Record the purchase date, retailer and country or region where the Fitbit was bought.
- Fault description: Write down what fails, when it began, error messages and any troubleshooting already attempted. Google may ask diagnostic questions.
- Device condition: Be ready to explain drops, liquid exposure, visible damage, battery behavior or previous repairs accurately, because those facts can affect exclusions.
Back up and sync before sending a device
Sync the Fitbit with your account and back up any information you need before handing it to a carrier or support center. Google warns that warranty service can result in data loss. A replacement will not necessarily contain data that remained only on the original device.

What to do when the warranty check does not give a clear answer
You cannot prove the purchase date
Search the retailer account, email receipt, card statement or gift documentation for the original transaction. If the date remains uncertain, tell support what you do know; do not substitute the date you received the Fitbit or opened the box.
The country is missing from the selector
Do not choose a neighboring country as a workaround. Contact Google Support, explain where the product was purchased and ask which channel handles that market. Availability can depend on whether the product was officially sold there.

Gather the original receipt and details of the first sale. Warranty transfer rules, proof requirements and available remedies are controlled by the applicable terms; ownership alone does not establish coverage.
The device has been opened or repaired
Disclose any third-party repair or modification. The older warranty lists unauthorized repair as an exclusion, and later terms may contain comparable restrictions. Support can decide whether the condition prevents warranty service.
The checker shows coverage but the fault is intermittent
Document dates, symptoms, charging behavior and any diagnostic results. Follow the requested troubleshooting steps and preserve screenshots or error messages. A coverage indication does not remove the need for support to verify that the reported condition is a covered defect.
How to avoid the most common warranty mistakes
- Using the wrong warranty source: Split your process at July 11, 2023 before reading any period or exclusion.
- Using your current location: Select the country of purchase and explain any move or import.
- Assuming every fault is covered: Separate manufacturing defects from accidents, wear, consumables, misuse and unauthorized work.
- Expecting a repair: Google says Fitbit repairs are unavailable; ask about replacement or out-of-warranty eligibility.
- Sending a device without a backup: Sync and back up first because service can cause data loss.
- Discarding the receipt: Keep proof of purchase and the serial number until the claim is closed.
- Applying legacy periods to newer purchases: The one-year, two-year and 90-day figures belong to the older Fitbit Limited Warranty and should not be generalized.
The practical answer
Check the Fitbit claim guide, split the process by the July 11, 2023 purchase-date cutoff, and select the country where the device was bought. Use the Google Hardware Warranty Center for later purchases and the Fitbit Limited Warranty for earlier ones. Treat the displayed country-specific terms as controlling, exclude accidental damage and other listed causes, and prepare the serial number, proof of purchase and a data backup. Because Google says Fitbit repairs are unavailable, a covered defect may result in replacement, while any out-of-warranty service must be confirmed with support.
