The most reliable way to check an Android tablet’s battery is the manufacturer’s own diagnostic. On a Samsung Galaxy tablet, open Samsung Members, choose Support, then Get started or Phone diagnostics, and run Battery status. You can also open Settings > Device care (or Battery and device care) > Battery for the battery information that your model exposes.
There is no single Android Settings page that guarantees a health percentage or charging-cycle count on every tablet. Android 14 (API level 34) added a documented cycle-count field to the BatteryManager framework, but manufacturers decide whether that value appears in their interface. If the built-in screens do not provide the data, a monitoring app such as Battery Guru can estimate capacity and cycles from system data or from several logged charging sessions; treat that result as an estimate rather than an official measurement.
What you can actually measure
“Battery health” can mean several different values, and Android does not present all of them on every device:

- Current charge: the percentage shown in the status bar or Battery settings.
- Health state: a framework or manufacturer assessment of whether the battery is operating normally.
- Capacity: the amount of energy the battery can hold now compared with its design capacity. A percentage shown by an app may be calculated rather than measured by a service tool.
- Charging-cycle count: the number of equivalent full charge-and-discharge cycles recorded by the device’s fuel gauge. It is not simply the number of times you connected a charger.
A tablet may expose one of these values while hiding the others. A battery icon showing 80% is a snapshot of charge, not proof that the battery still has 80% of its original capacity.

Before checking: identify the tablet and software
Battery menus are model- and software-dependent. Write down the exact tablet model and its Android or One UI version before troubleshooting. Two Galaxy Tab models can use different menu labels, and a non-Samsung tablet may move the same information to a manufacturer utility or omit it entirely.
Google’s general guidance is to use the device maker’s support information for battery controls. On the tablet, open Settings > About tablet (the wording may vary) and note the model and Android version. This lets you distinguish a missing feature from a menu that has moved after an update.
Check a Samsung Galaxy tablet with Samsung’s diagnostic
Samsung’s diagnostic is the authoritative first check for a Galaxy tablet because it tests the device through Samsung’s own software rather than inferring capacity from usage history.

- Open Samsung Members. If the app is not on the tablet, install or update the official Samsung Members app from the tablet’s app store.
- Tap Support.
- Tap Get started if that button appears, or open Phone diagnostics (Samsung uses this label on some versions).
- Select Battery status and start the check.
- Read the result and follow any service instruction shown by Samsung. Record the date and result if you are monitoring a gradual decline.
Samsung says the available tests and menu names vary by model and software. Its published instructions also note that Device care diagnostics are available on Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later, so an older tablet may show a different path or fewer tests.

Use Device care for everyday information
Open Settings > Device care > Battery (sometimes displayed as Battery and device care > Battery). Depending on the model, this screen can show current charge, estimated remaining time, app usage and other battery information. Device care is useful for spotting an application that is consuming power, but it is not guaranteed to show a design-capacity percentage or a cycle count.
If Samsung Members cannot find the test
- Search Settings for Device care, Battery or Diagnostics; Samsung changes labels between One UI releases.
- Update Samsung Members and the tablet’s system software, then restart the tablet.
- Check the model and Android version. A feature documented for a newer Galaxy device may not exist on an older tablet.
- If the tablet has rapid drain or shutdowns despite a normal-looking screen, use Samsung’s service guidance rather than relying on a single status result.
Check a non-Samsung Android tablet
Start with the tablet’s built-in Battery page. Common locations include Settings > Battery, Settings > Battery and device care > Battery, and Settings > Device care > Battery. Record every field the tablet offers: charge percentage, estimated time, app usage, a health state, capacity, or a cycle count.
There is no universal Android path that guarantees a health percentage or cycle count. A manufacturer can use Android’s battery framework internally without exposing the value to users. If the Battery page shows only percentage and usage, that is a limitation of the tablet’s software interface, not evidence that the battery has no internal measurements.

Search the app drawer and Settings for a support or diagnostics app supplied by the tablet maker. Use the exact model and software version when consulting the maker’s documentation. Avoid assuming that instructions for a phone apply to a tablet: diagnostic modules and available sensors can differ even within one brand.

Do not confuse estimates with a health reading
Some Android screens show an estimated time remaining or an adaptive-battery setting. Those features help manage power but do not necessarily report maximum capacity or cycle count. A changing estimate is expected as your recent usage changes; it is not, by itself, a sign of battery wear.
What Android 14 adds about cycle count
Android’s BatteryManager framework defines several battery fields, including remaining-capacity information, a charge counter, health states and data delivered through Intent.ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED. Android Developers document EXTRA_CYCLE_COUNT as an integer representing the battery charging-cycle count. That extra was added in API level 34, which corresponds to Android 14.
The API addition does not create a guaranteed user-facing cycle counter. The tablet’s manufacturer must provide the underlying fuel-gauge value and decide whether to display it in Settings or a diagnostic app. A tablet running Android 14 or later can therefore still show no cycle count at all.
How to interpret an exposed cycle value
A cycle is based on cumulative energy use equivalent to a full battery charge. For example, using roughly 30% of the battery on one day and roughly 70% on another day adds up to about one equivalent cycle, even though the tablet was plugged in more than once. The exact value is tracked by the device’s battery gauge, so a simple sum of percentages is only an illustration.

Cycle count is one aging indicator, not a pass/fail verdict. Charging temperature, storage conditions, workload and the battery’s own chemistry also affect runtime. Two tablets with the same count can behave differently, and a third-party estimate may not match the number stored by the fuel gauge.
Use a monitoring app only when built-in data is missing
Battery Guru is an optional monitoring app whose Google Play listing says it supports tablets. It can compare estimated actual capacity with design capacity, track wear per cycle, and obtain cycle counts from system data or calculate them from recorded charging sessions. The listing was updated on September 2, 2026.
Set up an estimate that has enough data
- Install Battery Guru from the tablet’s official app store and open it.
- Enter or confirm the tablet’s design-capacity information if the app requests it. An incorrect design value makes the percentage comparison misleading.
- Allow the app to record charging and discharge sessions. Keep the tablet’s battery-optimization or background restriction from stopping the app while it is logging.
- Use the tablet normally across multiple charge sessions. Do not judge capacity from the first reading or from one unusually short session.
- Compare the app’s estimated capacity, wear-per-cycle trend and any system-reported cycle value with real-world runtime.
Battery Guru’s result is an estimate based on the data the tablet exposes and the time the app has been allowed to observe it. Background restrictions on some devices can prevent correct logging. Continuous monitoring can also add a small privacy and battery-use cost, so disable it when you no longer need the history.
When an estimate is useful
- There is no manufacturer diagnostic and you want a trend over several weeks.
- You need to compare the tablet’s apparent capacity with its design specification.
- You want session history to investigate whether a particular workload causes unusual wear or drain.
When not to trust the number alone
- The app has logged only one or two partial charges.
- The tablet routinely stops the app in the background.
- The displayed design capacity is unknown or was entered incorrectly.
- The estimate conflicts with serious symptoms such as shutdowns; in that case, service evaluation matters more than the displayed percentage.

Why your tablet may not show battery health or cycles
The manufacturer did not expose the field
Android can maintain battery information internally without placing it in Settings. This is the most common explanation when a tablet has a modern Android version but no health percentage or cycle counter.

The software version uses a different menu
Updates can rename or relocate Battery, Device care and diagnostics. Search Settings for those terms instead of following a path copied from another model. Samsung specifically warns that menu names, layouts and available tests vary.
The tablet is older than the relevant framework addition
The documented Android cycle-count extra begins at API level 34. Earlier versions may still have manufacturer-specific cycle data, but Android does not promise the same framework field or a standard screen.
A monitoring app was stopped in the background
If an estimator reports gaps, implausible jumps or no new sessions, check the tablet’s battery-optimization and background-app controls. Permit the app to run while testing, then review whether the additional monitoring is worth keeping.

A capacity estimate can be unstable after software changes, a battery replacement or very short sessions. Let the tablet complete several ordinary charge and discharge sessions before drawing a conclusion, and compare the trend with runtime and charging behavior.
When battery symptoms justify service
Numbers are secondary to behavior. Samsung identifies shorter battery life, fast drain after charging, unexpected shutdowns and other abnormal battery behavior as signs that battery health may have decreased. If those symptoms continue, Samsung recommends support or service evaluation.
Arrange an evaluation when you notice
- The tablet shuts down while the displayed charge still appears substantial.
- Runtime has become consistently shorter under the same workload, not merely on one unusually busy day.
- The charge percentage drops sharply or behaves erratically.
- The tablet becomes unusually hot during ordinary charging or light use.
- A diagnostic reports a problem, or an estimator shows a sustained decline that matches your experience.
Do not attempt an improvised battery replacement
Tablet batteries are fitted inside the enclosure and can be damaged by puncture or excessive heat. Use the manufacturer’s authorized support route or a qualified repair provider for model-specific replacement advice. A cycle count alone is not a safe reason to open the tablet.
A repeatable checking routine
- Record the model, Android or One UI version and the date.
- Run the built-in Battery or manufacturer diagnostic first.
- Save the result and note practical symptoms such as runtime, heat and shutdowns.
- If no health or cycle data is available, decide whether several weeks of optional monitoring justify an estimator.
- Keep background logging enabled while collecting data, then review the trend rather than one reading.
- Seek service when abnormal behavior persists, regardless of what an app estimates.
The practical answer is therefore device-specific: Galaxy tablet owners should begin with Samsung Members and Device care; owners of other Android tablets should inspect the maker’s Battery and diagnostic screens; and everyone should treat API-level or app-reported cycle figures as supporting information rather than a universal battery-health score.
