If a message unexpectedly asks you to log in, verify your TikTok account, or share a code, do not use its link. Open TikTok directly through the app or an address you already know, and check for an account notice there. TikTok says it will never ask for your password, verification codes, or other sensitive personal information.

What a TikTok phishing page is trying to do

Phishing is an attempt to trick you into giving away sensitive information. A scammer may pose as TikTok in an email, text, in-app message, another messaging app, or a linked webpage. The message might claim your account needs verification, has suspicious activity, or will be restricted unless you act quickly. Its goal may be to capture your password, a verification code, or payment details.

A convincing logo, polished design, lock icon, or HTTPS connection does not prove that a page belongs to TikTok. Check how you reached the page, the sender, and the full web address—and verify account problems through TikTok opened independently.

Warning signs to check before you enter anything

The message creates urgency

Be cautious of threats that your account will be suspended, restricted, or lost unless you act immediately. Pressure to fix an account problem through an unexpected link is a common phishing pattern. The FTC advises contacting the company through a route you know is genuine rather than using the message’s contact details.

The sender or web address looks altered

Inspect the full destination, not just the text displayed for a link. TikTok warns that scammers may change characters or add punctuation to make a lookalike domain seem genuine. In an August 27, 2025 safety notice, TikTok gave “t1k-t0k” as an example of deceptive spelling, including replacing the letter “o” with a zero or inserting a dash.

The page asks for a password, code, or payment details

TikTok says it will not contact you to ask for your password, verification codes, or other sensitive personal information. Its August 2025 notice also says TikTok and TikTok Shop will not request passwords, TACs, or debit or credit card details through text messages, phone calls, or email. A code remains secret even when two-step verification is enabled: do not give one to a person who contacted you or enter it on a page reached through an unsolicited message.

How to verify a message safely

  1. Pause. Treat an unexpected request to log in, restore access, verify your account, or act urgently as suspicious.
  2. Do not follow the message link. Avoid opening suspicious links or attachments, and do not reply with account information.
  3. Open TikTok independently. Use the app or type an address you already know. Check for account notices there rather than trusting the message’s claim.
  4. Report suspicious content. Use TikTok’s current in-app guidance to report the message, video, or link. TikTok also advises users not to engage with suspicious messages.

These checks help you assess risk; they are not a forensic way to prove that a particular page is malicious. If you are unsure, leave the page and check through the independently opened app or site.

  • WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5 NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5 NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
  • MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
  • PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
  1. Change your TikTok password. If you cannot access the account, use TikTok’s official recovery route rather than a link from the message.
  2. Review devices and security activity. Look for access you do not recognize.
  3. Sign out other sessions where the control is available. The FTC recommends ending other sessions after changing a compromised social-media password.
  4. Turn on two-step verification. TikTok says this adds an extra layer of protection if a password is compromised. It does not make it safe to share a verification code.
  5. Change reused passwords elsewhere. If the same password protects other accounts, replace it on those accounts too and use unique passwords.

If you also entered financial information

Contact your bank or card issuer using a verified contact route, such as the number on the card or its official app. Follow the relevant local guidance for reporting exposed identity or financial information; recovery procedures vary by location.

If you clicked but did not enter information

Clicking does not mean a device was infected, and not every phishing link installs malware. As a precaution, the FTC recommends updating security software and scanning the device after clicking an unexpected link. If the page is still open, close it without entering information or downloading anything.
