Change the values in your RedM configuration, restart the server, and then verify the result in the server browser. In most installations, edit sv_projectName for the project name and sv_projectDesc for the description. Set sv_hostname to the same name as well: published guides disagree about which convar the RedM browser displays, and setting all three avoids a stale or truncated listing.
Which RedM settings control the listing?
RedM servers can expose several related convars. Treat them as a group rather than changing only one field.

The available evidence is not a single official RedM specification. Shockbyte’s RedM guide and txAdmin recipe templates identify sv_projectName as the name field, while Nodecraft, Vexium, and XGamingServer describe sv_hostname as the browser name. Shockbyte, Vexium, and Cfx.re forum guidance associate sv_projectDesc with the description. No official RedM page confirming this exact behavior was located, so verify the listing after you restart.
Before you edit anything
- Make sure you have administrator access to txAdmin, the host control panel, or the machine containing
server.cfg. - Know whether your server is launched from a hand-maintained
server.cfgor from a txAdmin recipe. A recipe can regenerate configuration values later. - Keep a copy of the current values. If a change causes a startup or listing problem, you can restore the previous lines quickly.
- Choose a plain-text name and description first. Pipes such as
|and emoji have been reported by forum users to cause listing problems; those reports are not official RedM rules, but avoiding unusual characters makes troubleshooting easier.
Method 1: edit the configuration in txAdmin
For a server managed by txAdmin, the CFG Editor is usually the safest place to make a persistent manual change.

- Sign in to the txAdmin web panel for the correct RedM instance.
- Open CFG Editor. The editor may be under the server configuration or settings area, depending on the txAdmin build and host layout.
- Search for
sv_projectName. Replace only the text inside its quotation marks. For example:sv_projectName "Frontier Trails RP". - Find
sv_projectDescand replace the quoted text with a useful explanation of the server’s theme, features, or rules. For example:sv_projectDesc "Serious roleplay, player-run towns, and weekly frontier events". - Find
sv_hostnameand set it to the same name:sv_hostname "Frontier Trails RP". Keeping the two name values identical prevents one part of the listing from retaining an old label. - Save the configuration in txAdmin.
- Restart the RedM server. The new values are not reliable until the process has restarted.
- Open the server browser and inspect the actual listing. If the old name remains, check both name convars again and continue with the troubleshooting section below.
Do not add a second copy of a convar while experimenting. Duplicate entries can make it unclear which value the launcher reads, especially when a later line overrides an earlier one.
Method 2: edit server.cfg directly
Use this method when you administer the host filesystem or when the panel does not provide a CFG Editor.

- Stop the server or use your host’s documented maintenance procedure before editing. This prevents a running process or panel save from replacing your work.
- Open the active
server.cfg, not an unused example file or a backup. The startup command or txAdmin profile identifies which configuration is loaded. - Locate the existing
sv_projectNameline and change its quoted value. - Locate
sv_projectDescand change its quoted value. If the line is absent, add one in the same configuration file used at startup. - Locate
sv_hostnameand set the same name used forsv_projectName. If it is absent, add it as a separate line. - Save the file using plain text. Do not surround the whole line with extra quotes or remove the convar name.
- Start or restart the server, then inspect the browser listing.
A minimal set of lines looks like this:
sv_projectName "Frontier Trails RP"
sv_projectDesc "Serious roleplay, player-run towns, and weekly frontier events"
sv_hostname "Frontier Trails RP"The example is only a formatting model. Replace the values with your own name and description; the quotation marks are part of the expected syntax.
Method 3: use a hosting control panel
Some managed RedM hosts do not expect customers to open files. Nodecraft and XGamingServer describe a control-panel or Startup field for the name and description, while other panels expose the same settings under variables, configuration, or command-line options.

- Open the host’s control panel for the RedM server.
- Go to the startup, variables, or configuration page identified by that provider.
- Change the field corresponding to the server name and the field corresponding to the description.
- If the panel exposes separate entries for
sv_projectNameandsv_hostname, give both the same name. If it exposes only a friendly “Server name” field, the panel documentation determines which convar it writes. - Save the panel settings and restart the server from that panel.
- Check the browser listing rather than relying only on the value displayed in the panel.
A provider’s panel is authoritative for its own field mapping. If a panel keeps restoring an old value, contact that provider or inspect the generated configuration instead of repeatedly editing a different file.
Restarting and verifying the change
A saved file is not the same as a running server using that file. Perform a complete restart after the edit, wait for startup to finish, and then check the public listing.
- Confirm that the server reaches its normal ready state in txAdmin or the host console.
- Search for the new name in the RedM browser. Allow for ordinary browser refresh or caching delay before concluding that it failed.
- Read the description as it appears to players; this catches quotation, spelling, and line-selection mistakes that are invisible in an editor.
- If the browser still shows the old name, compare
sv_projectNameandsv_hostnamein the configuration that was actually loaded. The sources disagree about which one the browser prioritizes.
Do not judge success from a web-panel label alone. The browser is the meaningful test because it is the view your players use.
Why the old RedM server name or description still appears
The wrong configuration file was edited
Hosts often keep multiple profiles, recipe files, or example configs. Confirm the startup profile used by the running instance, then search that active configuration for all three convars. A correctly edited inactive file has no effect.

The server was not restarted
txAdmin can save a value without reloading the running process. Restart from txAdmin or the host panel, wait for startup, and search the listing again.
Only one name variable was changed
Because published guidance differs on whether sv_projectName or sv_hostname supplies the browser label, changing only one can leave an old name visible or produce inconsistent display. Set both to the intended name.
A recipe overwrote your manual edit
txAdmin recipe templates can construct sv_hostname and sv_projectName from placeholders. Re-running a deployer or recipe may replace your hand-edited values. After every redeploy, inspect both lines and apply the desired values again, or change the template’s source placeholders if that is supported by your setup.
The description is missing or malformed
Check that sv_projectDesc is present in the active file, that its text is inside one matching pair of quotation marks, and that no accidental comment character disables the line. Keep the description plain and concise while testing.

The listing is private
Cfx.re issue documentation, summarized in available material, notes that a stray sv_master1 line without its leading # comment marker can make a server appear private. This behavior is documented for FiveM and has not been confirmed specifically for RedM, so treat it as a compatibility check rather than an official RedM rule. If your server unexpectedly becomes private, inspect that line and restore the comment marker exactly as your host’s configuration expects.

FiveM documentation also describes missing required variables causing a startup error and preventing a listing. That documentation is not RedM-specific. Read the startup console, restore the last known-good configuration, and check for missing quotation marks, duplicate lines, or accidental edits to unrelated convars before trying again.
A hostname_rework warning appears
A reported warning on certain Windows artifact builds can appear even when the name variables are set. If the server otherwise starts, use the console command cmdlist after startup and confirm that the expected convars are registered. A warning alone does not prove that your name or description edit failed; the browser listing and registered command list are better checks.
Formatting choices that reduce listing problems
Use ordinary letters, numbers, spaces, and short punctuation while validating the setup. Forum users have reported problems with pipes and emoji in project names, but those are user reports rather than a published RedM formatting standard. If a plain name works and a decorated version does not, add one character at a time to identify the trigger.

Keep the name consistent across sv_projectName and sv_hostname. Use the description for information players need before joining: roleplay style, major features, language, whitelist status, or essential rules. Do not put an unescaped line break inside a quoted value; keep each convar on its own line.

Recipes are useful because they build a repeatable server, but repeatability can also undo a manual edit. A template may contain placeholders that generate both name convars during deployment.
- Open the recipe or generated configuration after the redeploy completes.
- Search for
sv_projectName,sv_projectDesc, andsv_hostname. - Confirm that the generated values match the name and description you want players to see.
- Restart the server if the deployer did not already do so.
- Verify the browser listing again.
If redeploys happen regularly, make the durable change in the recipe’s supported placeholder or variable rather than in a generated output file. Otherwise, expect to re-check the three convars after each deployment.

For most txAdmin installations, start with the CFG Editor. Use direct editing when you know exactly which server.cfg is loaded. Use a hosting panel when that is the provider-supported workflow, then inspect the generated values if the browser does not change.
A final pre-publish checklist

- You edited the configuration or panel entry used by the running server.
- You saved the change and completed a restart.
- The browser listing shows the new name and description.

What the evidence does—and does not—establish
The practical procedure is clear: set the project name and description, set the hostname as a compatibility measure, restart, and verify in the browser. The unresolved detail is which variable RedM itself prioritizes in every browser and artifact version. Hosting guides identify different fields, and the closest official material concerns FiveM rather than RedM. That is why setting all relevant convars and checking the live listing is safer than relying on a single label in a panel.
