Change a RedM server icon by placing a PNG that is exactly 96×96 pixels where the server can read it, then adding load_server_icon "filename.png" to server.cfg. Save the configuration and restart the server. The command is documented by Cfx.re for RedM as well as FiveM; the game identifier for RedM is rdr3.
What the RedM server icon setting does
The server icon is the small image associated with your RedM server in the client’s server information. It is loaded from a file on the server at startup. RedM does not obtain this image from sv_projectName or sv_projectDesc; those variables control the displayed project name and description. The icon has its own configuration directive: load_server_icon.

The supported format and dimensions are specific: use a PNG file with a canvas of exactly 96×96 pixels. A larger square, a rectangular image, a JPEG renamed to .png, or a PNG with another size does not satisfy the requirement. The filename in the configuration must match the uploaded file exactly.
Before you start: requirements and decisions
- Image format: PNG.
- Image dimensions: exactly 96 pixels wide by 96 pixels high.
- Server access: permission to upload a file and edit
server.cfg. - Restart access: the server must be restarted after the configuration is saved.
- Filename: choose a simple name such as
my-server.pngand use that exact spelling in the command.
You can create or resize the artwork in an image editor such as GIMP or with an image-conversion service. Keep the original artwork separately; the server copy should be the final 96×96 PNG.

Prepare a valid 96×96 PNG
Resize the canvas, not just the displayed preview
Open the source image, set its width to 96 pixels and its height to 96 pixels, and export it as PNG. If the source is not square, decide whether to crop it to a square first or preserve the whole design with padding. Check the exported file’s actual dimensions in the editor or your operating system’s image properties. A preview that appears square is not proof that the file is 96×96.
Make the icon readable at small size
At 96 pixels, thin text and intricate illustrations can become indistinguishable. Prefer a strong silhouette, high contrast, and a simple focal mark. If you use transparency, preview the image against both light and dark backgrounds so the important parts do not disappear in the client.
Export as PNG and keep the extension honest
Use the editor’s PNG export option rather than renaming a JPEG or another format. Keep the extension in the filename, for example my-server.png. If your file manager hides extensions, verify that you have not accidentally created my-server.png.png.
Optional cleanup when display behavior is strange
A Cfx.re forum user reported display problems with a PNG containing unusually large embedded editor metadata. That is a single-user report, not an officially documented rule, so it should not be treated as a required step. If a correctly sized PNG still behaves oddly, re-export a clean copy from your editor and test that copy without changing the dimensions or filename.

Choose the correct upload location
The file must be in a location the server process can read. The exact action depends on how you operate the server.

Do not upload the image only to your computer while leaving the server copy unchanged. Likewise, placing it in an unrelated web directory does not make it available to the RedM server unless that directory is part of the server’s readable file layout.

- Stop or prepare the server for a controlled edit. If you edit while the process is running, make sure no deployment tool will overwrite your changes. A planned restart is required later.
- Copy the finished PNG beside
server.cfg. Use the exact file you checked for 96×96 dimensions. For example, the resulting path might containserver.cfgandmy-server.pngin the same directory. - Open
server.cfg. Use a plain-text editor. Do not save the file as a word-processing document or add rich-text formatting. - Add the directive on its own line:
load_server_icon "my-server.png". Replace the example name with the actual filename, including capitalization and extension. - Save
server.cfg. Check that the editor did not change quotation marks into typographic “smart” quotes. The line should contain ordinary double quotes. - Restart the server. The icon is read when the server starts; editing the file without a restart does not apply the new image to the running process.
- Read the startup console. Watch for an image-dimension error or a file-loading error. Correct any reported problem before testing the listing again.
Method 2: change the icon with txAdmin
- Open the hosting panel’s Files tab. Upload the 96×96 PNG to the server’s base resource folder identified by the host. Keep the uploaded filename visible; you will need to reproduce it exactly.
- Open txAdmin’s CFG Editor. Locate the server configuration file used by the active profile. If the panel manages more than one server, verify that you are editing the profile you actually start.
- Insert the command:
load_server_icon "my-server.png". Substitute your uploaded filename. Do not put a local computer path in the value; the server needs the name of the file in its own accessible directory. - Select Save File. Confirm that the editor reports the configuration was saved. If the panel shows unsaved changes, save again before leaving the page.
- Restart from txAdmin. A configuration reload without a full server restart may leave the previous icon in use.
- Inspect the startup log. A host guide reports that startup output flags an icon whose dimensions are not 96×96. Treat that message as a validation failure: replace the file with a correctly exported PNG, save the configuration, and restart again.
Use the command correctly
The complete syntax is:
load_server_icon "filename.png"
load_server_icon: the configuration directive that tells the server which image to load."filename.png": the file name, enclosed in ordinary double quotes.
For a file named redm-logo.png, the line is:
load_server_icon "redm-logo.png"
Keep the directive in the active server.cfg. Adding it to a backup file, an unused recipe, or a different profile will have no effect on the server you start.
Verify the change after restarting
Check the startup console first
The console is the fastest place to identify a bad image. Look for a message indicating that the icon dimensions are invalid or that the file could not be loaded. If the server starts without an icon-related error, continue with a client-side check.

Confirm the running server uses the edited configuration
If the old icon remains, verify that the restart actually stopped and started the intended instance. Managed hosts can expose several profiles, and a panel restart button may target a different profile from the one whose CFG Editor you changed.
Check the file and command as a pair
Compare the uploaded filename character by character with the value inside load_server_icon. Check capitalization, spaces, punctuation, and the extension. A visually similar name is not necessarily the same file name on the server.
The icon is separate from the server name and description
Many RedM server templates include lines such as:
sv_projectName "Example Server"sv_projectDesc "A description of the server"
These variables supply the project name and description in templates such as a txAdmin recipe. They do not select the logo. The image requires its own load_server_icon line.

A Cfx.re troubleshooting article reports a startup error when sv_projectName and sv_projectDesc are not set. That warning concerns metadata, not the PNG. Set those variables when your template or server configuration requires them, but do not expect them to change the icon.

Why the icon may not appear where you expect
Community forum reports say an icon may be absent from the main public server list even when a server is configured correctly, and that connecting directly by IP can sometimes show different behavior. These reports are not confirmed as an official RedM rule. Treat them as possible display-side causes only after you have verified the image dimensions, path, filename, active configuration, and restart.
Do not use the public-list result alone to decide that the configuration failed. First establish whether the server itself accepted the file at startup. If the console accepts the image but a particular list view does not display it, the remaining issue may be client or listing behavior rather than your PNG or server.cfg.
Replacing the icon later
- Prepare another PNG at exactly 96×96 pixels.
- Upload it to the same server location as the current icon.
- Either keep the existing filename and replace the file, or choose a new filename and update
load_server_iconto match. - Save the configuration if you changed the line.
- Restart the server and inspect startup output.
Keeping one stable filename makes future replacements simpler because the configuration does not need editing each time. Using a new filename can make it easier to identify versions, but it creates an additional opportunity for a spelling or path mismatch.

Safe configuration checklist
- The image opens as a genuine PNG.
- The image properties show 96 pixels by 96 pixels.
- The file is in the server-readable location.
- The active
server.cfgcontains one correctly quotedload_server_iconline. - The filename, capitalization, and extension match exactly.
- The configuration was saved in the editor or txAdmin CFG Editor.
- The server was fully restarted after the change.
- The startup console was checked for dimension or file-loading errors.
