You cannot switch Netflix countries with an account setting. Netflix changes the account country only when you move: cancel your membership, wait for it to end, then restart it while physically in the new country. If you are traveling or Netflix detects the wrong location, use the relevant steps below instead.
Change your Netflix country after an international move
Netflix says the country on an account cannot be changed unless you move to another country. To update it, follow this sequence:
- Cancel your Netflix membership.
- Wait until the current membership period ends.
- While in the new country, restart the membership. Restarting there changes the account country.
Netflix says viewing activity, recommendations, ratings, and account details are retained for 24 months after the account closes. Catalog selection, downloads, audio and subtitle options, maturity ratings, prices, billing currency, and payment methods may differ in the new country. See Netflix’s account-country guidance and information about moving with Netflix.
What changes when you travel?
A temporary trip does not follow the account-country change process. Netflix availability varies by country, so a title you can watch at home may not be available where you are visiting. That can also affect downloads: a downloaded title may not play in a country where Netflix lacks the relevant regional rights.

For the download error covered in Netflix’s download troubleshooting guidance, connect to Netflix in a country where the title is available and launch the app so it can determine your location. Availability may return when you are back in a country where the title is licensed.
Why Netflix catalogs differ by country
Netflix says it is available in over 190 countries, each with its own catalog of original and licensed shows and films. Regional popularity, studio and distributor rights, rights that are unavailable in a particular region, and exclusivity on another streaming platform can all affect what appears in a catalog. Even a title Netflix owns worldwide may be unavailable in some places when another company holds the regional rights. Netflix explains these factors in its regional availability overview.

Fix Netflix showing the wrong country
If Netflix’s location does not match where you are, check the network before treating the issue as a catalog restriction. Netflix recommends checking the client country shown by fast.com and then troubleshooting the network if it is wrong.

Why a VPN may not unlock another catalog
Netflix says a VPN can make your connection appear to come from somewhere other than your physical location. With a VPN, Netflix may show only titles it has worldwide licensing for; it does not promise that a VPN will provide access to another country’s catalog. Netflix says VPNs are unsupported for live events and ad-supported viewing. Its VPN guidance also advises turning off a VPN to see titles available in your region.

A Netflix Household concerns the devices connected to the internet at the main place where Netflix is watched. It is not a setting for changing the account country or regional content rights. People outside the household need their own account or may be added as an extra member, subject to Netflix’s rules. See Netflix’s Household explanation.
