To change the legal name on an eligible Chase deposit account, first update your name with the Social Security Administration (SSA), then use Chase.com or the Chase app to make the account change. Chase does not say whether that update automatically changes a name shown through Zelle. If the Zelle name still looks wrong afterward, contact Chase and ask whether your Zelle enrollment profile needs a separate correction.
First identify which name you want to change
“Zelle name” can mean different things: your legal name on a Chase account, information associated with your Zelle enrollment, or a name a sender saved for a recipient. Chase’s public instructions do not establish these as one shared setting.

Change the legal name on an eligible Chase account
- Update your name with the SSA first. Chase’s digital route is described for eligible customers who have completed that step.
- Sign in at chase.com or in the Chase app and use the available name-change process for your credit or deposit account.
- Follow the prompts shown for your account. Chase’s published guidance does not list every screen or menu label for the process, so the exact navigation may vary.
Chase says eligible customers can make this digital update without providing additional legal documentation. That instruction concerns the account-name change; it does not establish what happens to a Zelle name.
Check Zelle separately if the displayed name remains wrong
Chase offers Zelle in its app and on chase.com. Its consumer instructions describe enrollment by signing in, selecting “Send money with Zelle,” choosing “Get started,” and providing a primary email address. They also describe locating a QR code in Zelle settings. These are enrollment and identifier steps—not instructions for editing a personal display name.

If you have updated the Chase account name but the name shown through Zelle is still incorrect, call Chase at 1-800-935-9935. Ask specifically whether your Zelle enrollment profile needs a separate correction. Chase does not publish a guaranteed procedure for that correction in the guidance cited here.
Do not confuse a recipient label or identifier with your name
Chase’s agreement explains that the name a sender enters for a recipient helps identify that recipient in the sender’s list and transaction history, but does not process the payment. Payment processing uses the email address, mobile number, or Zelle tag entered. If you are paying someone new, check the displayed recipient name before sending, as Chase advises, and verify the destination identifier as well. Changing a label does not fix an incorrect email address, phone number, or tag.

A Zelle tag is a username-like identifier, not a consumer display-name setting. Chase currently limits tag creation to small-business customers, so it is not a solution for changing a personal Zelle name.

Do not use Chase’s brokerage Account Holder Name Change form for a checking or savings account. Chase says that form is for investment accounts and cannot be used for checking, savings, or credit card accounts. For an eligible deposit-account name change, use the digital route described above.
