Open the panel’s own account settings, not the Minecraft game console. Multicraft administrators change the password under Users; ordinary Multicraft users usually begin in Profile. Pterodactyl users use the account/password controls provided by their host. If you cannot sign in, use the panel’s password-reset email or ask the hosting provider or panel administrator to reset access.
First identify which password you need to change
“Minecraft server password” can refer to several unrelated credentials. The steps below apply to the web panel login—the username and password used to manage servers in a browser. Before changing anything, identify the panel software, your access level, and the credential’s scope.

Hosts can rebrand or rearrange either panel. A menu called Account, My Profile, Security, or Change password may perform the same function. If the control described here is missing, do not guess at an administrative URL or edit a database; ask the host which panel and account type you have.
Change a Multicraft password
Ordinary Multicraft user
Use this route when you can log in as a regular panel user and need to change only your own web-login password.

- Open the Multicraft panel supplied by your hosting provider and sign in.
- Open Profile. Provider customizations can change the appearance or the exact location of this link.
- Choose the password-edit control. Its label may be Change password, Edit password, or similar.
- Enter your current password, then enter the new password in both confirmation fields if the form provides them.
- Save the change. If the panel reports a password-policy error, follow the requirements displayed by that installation rather than assuming a policy from another host.
- Sign out and sign in again with the new password. Keep the panel open until this test succeeds if you are changing credentials during a maintenance window.
The Profile destination is the documented starting point for ordinary Multicraft users, but the hosting provider controls the branding and available buttons. A host may disable self-service editing and require an administrator to make the change.
Multicraft administrator
If you administer the Multicraft installation itself, change the administrator account from the user-management area:

- Sign in to the administrative interface.
- Open Users.
- Select the administrator account, commonly the account created during installation.
- Set a new password, save it, and sign in again using the new value.
Multicraft installation documentation describes admin as the example username and admin as the example initial password, then instructs the installer to change the administrator password under Users. Treat those values as installation-only examples. On a real deployment, replace them immediately and never leave a production panel using a default credential.
If you no longer have an administrator login, the hosting company or another panel administrator must perform recovery. Avoid changing the daemon credential as a substitute: a daemon password is used by services, not by the browser user account.

Change a Pterodactyl password
When you can sign in
Pterodactyl is an open-source game-server panel that can manage Minecraft servers. The host may expose password controls under an account menu, profile page, or security page. Because providers can customize the panel, use the labels shown by your installation.
- Sign in to the Pterodactyl panel.
- Open the account, profile, or security menu supplied by the host.
- Choose the password-change option and provide the current password if requested.
- Enter and confirm the new password, then save.
- Sign out and verify that the new password works in a fresh sign-in window.
Do not change environment variables, database records, or server files for a routine user-password update. Those operations require administrator access and can affect the entire installation.

When an administrator must create or provision a user
Pterodactyl’s documented command-line user-creation path is php artisan p:user:make. It is an administrative provisioning command, not a universal end-user “forgot password” button. It requires shell access to the panel host, which many customers do not receive, and a provider may restrict or replace it with an internal support process.
The cited Pterodactyl guide states that passwords must contain 8 characters, mixed case, and at least one number. That is the requirement documented for that guide; your provider can impose additional rules or a different interface. An administrator should use the command only according to the installation’s documented procedure and should grant the minimum role needed.

Reset a forgotten panel password
Use the built-in email flow first
- Open the panel sign-in page.
- Select Forgot password, Reset password, or the equivalent link.
- Submit the email address or username associated with the panel account.
- Check the inbox, spam, quarantine, and filtering rules for the reset message.
- Open the reset link promptly, choose a new password, and sign in from the panel’s normal login page.
Multicraft password resets require an administrator contact email to be configured. A host can also enable password-change notifications. If no message arrives, the panel may have an unconfigured mail service, an incorrect address, a blocked sender, or a provider-specific reset process. Contact the hosting provider or panel administrator rather than repeatedly submitting the form.
If you no longer control the email address
Self-service reset cannot establish that you own an account when the recovery mailbox is unavailable. Ask the host’s support team or a panel administrator to verify ownership and reset the account. Be ready to provide the customer identifier, server name, billing or account details requested by that provider, and the username or email used in the panel. Do not send an existing password in a support ticket.

A panel password should be unique to the panel and should not be reused for your email, hosting account, SSH access, or Minecraft account. A password manager can generate and store a long random value; a memorable passphrase is a practical alternative when a password must be typed. Follow the panel’s displayed length and character rules. For Pterodactyl installations using the documented policy, the password must be at least eight characters, include uppercase and lowercase letters, and contain a number.
- Do not use the server name, domain, Minecraft username, or a default value such as
admin. - Do not paste credentials into shared notes, chat rooms, screenshots, or server MOTDs.
- Enable multi-factor authentication if the panel and host offer it, and store recovery codes offline.
- After saving, replace the old entry in your password manager and remove old copies from shared documents.
Do not confuse the panel password with service secrets
Multicraft daemon password
Multicraft uses a daemon service that communicates with the panel. Its password is configured in multicraft.conf and in the panel’s corresponding daemon settings. Changing a user’s browser password does not update that service credential. Changing the daemon value without updating both sides can stop the panel from communicating with the daemon, so treat it as a coordinated service-configuration change and follow the host’s maintenance procedure.

Minecraft server settings
A password in server.properties, if a particular setup uses one, belongs to the Minecraft server or its connection rules. It is independent of the panel login. Players may still be unable to join after a successful panel-password change if the game-server setting has not changed, and changing the game-server setting will not restore access to the panel.

Pterodactyl uses APP_KEY to encrypt sensitive data such as API keys. The project warns that if this key is lost, encrypted data is irrecoverable even with database backups. A routine user-password change does not require regenerating or replacing APP_KEY. Do not rotate, delete, or recreate it while attempting to fix an ordinary login problem. If the key is already missing or has been changed accidentally, stop making further changes and involve the panel administrator with a backup and recovery plan.
Verify the change safely
- Save the password and wait for the panel to confirm the update.
- Open a private or incognito browser window, navigate to the normal panel address, and test the new credentials. This avoids accepting an already-authenticated session as proof that the password works.
- If the host provides session management, review active sessions and sign out devices you do not recognize or no longer use. Session invalidation is provider-dependent, so do not assume every old session closes automatically.
- Update the password-manager entry and remove the old password from shared notes or scripts.
- Check that the panel still shows the expected servers and that you have the intended role. A password change should not itself alter server ownership or permissions; unexpected changes indicate a separate account or authorization issue.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The Profile or password option is missing
You may be looking at a provider-customized panel, a read-only account, or the wrong account type. Confirm whether you are in Multicraft or Pterodactyl, look under the account or security menu, and ask the host whether self-service changes are enabled. A panel administrator can change the account when ordinary users are not permitted to do so.
The new password is rejected immediately
Check for leading or trailing spaces, mismatched confirmation fields, keyboard-layout changes, and a password-policy message. For Pterodactyl, ensure the value meets the documented eight-character, mixed-case, number requirement. If the panel still rejects it, use a newly generated value and contact the administrator; do not keep guessing against an account that may trigger rate limits.

The reset email never arrives
Verify the mailbox and spam or quarantine folders, wait for any provider-imposed delay, and submit the request only from the panel’s official sign-in page. Multicraft needs an administrator contact email for resets, and the host controls outgoing mail. If the address is wrong or mail is disabled, only the provider or panel administrator can correct the recovery path.
The panel says the password changed, but the old password still works
Test in a private window and confirm that you are using the same panel hostname and account. A browser may be reusing a saved credential or an existing session. If both credentials appear to work after a clean test, ask the administrator whether multiple authentication back ends or an external single-sign-on service are involved.
Changing a credential breaks server communication
This usually indicates that a service credential—not the web-login password—was changed. For Multicraft, check whether the daemon password in multicraft.conf still matches the panel configuration. Restore the coordinated service settings using the host’s documented procedure and avoid editing unrelated passwords.
You changed or lost Pterodactyl APP_KEY
Stop treating the issue as a normal password reset. Because encrypted data can become irrecoverable when the key is lost, preserve the current configuration and database, avoid generating another key, and escalate to the installation administrator or hosting provider for recovery.

What to do after recovery
Record which credential was changed, when it was changed, and which account performed the action. Confirm that any automation or integrations use separate service credentials and still function. If the old password was exposed, rotate it anywhere it was reused, review panel access logs if the host provides them, remove unknown sessions, and enable multi-factor authentication. Keep daemon credentials, API keys, game-server settings, and web-login passwords in separate records so a future reset changes only the intended system.
