To change your Fortnite skin—called an outfit in Epic’s menus—open Locker from the lobby, choose Character, select an outfit, and go back. Use Edit on a cosmetic to choose an available alternate style. Locker settings for controls are in the in-game settings menu, and the tabs shown depend on your input method and game mode.
Change or equip an outfit
- From the Fortnite lobby, open Locker in the top menu bar.
- Select Character, then choose the outfit you want.
- Go back. Your avatar will reflect the selected cosmetics.
Epic uses “outfit” for the character cosmetic commonly called a skin. You can also access Locker through a Changing Booth during a match when one is available. Epic’s outfit instructions and item equip guidance describe this basic selection flow.
Choose an alternate style for a cosmetic
- In Locker, select the outfit or other cosmetic you want to customize.
- Choose Edit.
- Select one of the styles available for that item.
Styles are variations for cosmetics such as outfits, back blings, gliders, and pickaxes. The list only includes styles available for that item; a style may need to be unlocked or included with a pack. Epic says styles supplied in a pack should appear in the item’s style list. Customize or restore the Default Outfit
Choose a Default Outfit
- Open Locker > Character > Outfits.
- Select the hanger-and-T-shirt icon at the top left.
- Open the three-dot menu and choose Edit Styles.
- On the Pick Outfit screen, select a Default Outfit.
This is a separate customization path from selecting a standard outfit. Epic documents the Default Outfit steps here.

Restore the current default
Open Locker, select the Outfit icon, choose the X tile, then select Save. This returns the outfit selection to the current default according to Epic’s Locker documentation.
Randomize your outfit
To have Fortnite choose among your available outfits, open Locker > Character, select the three-dot menu, then choose Randomize. Epic’s randomization instructions cover this option.

Change controls and other game settings
- Open the in-game menu. During a match, the menu button depends on your platform: Esc on PC or Mac, Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox, or + on Switch.
- Select the gear icon.
- Choose the tab that matches your input method. The mouse-and-keyboard tab uses an arrow-keys icon; the controller tab uses a gamepad icon.
- Find and adjust the setting you need.
The available settings can depend on the selected game mode. If an option is missing, return to the lobby and select the relevant mode, then check settings again. Epic’s controls guide explains how to reach the relevant tabs; it does not list every setting available in every mode.

If an item in a preset reverts to a different style, find that cosmetic in the preset and remove it. Apply the desired style again, then add or use the cosmetic in the preset. Epic describes this as the workaround for styles that are not retained. See Epic’s style-saving guidance.

Fortnite’s menu labels and available options can vary by mode or platform and may change. If a label differs, follow the current in-game menu rather than assuming every screen is identical.
