To change weather on a FiveM server, first identify which resource is authoritative for weather, then use that resource’s server-side command or configuration. A command from the wrong resource may be unavailable, may affect only your client, or may be overwritten seconds later by another synchronization script. For kibook/weathersync, the documented controls include /weather, /weathersync, and /weatherui. vMenu uses setr settings in server.cfg for synchronization, dynamic changes, the default weather, transition length, blackout, and snow. QBCore and ESX resources add their own commands and permission checks.
The reliable workflow is: find the active controller, make sure its resource is installed and started, apply a server-wide setting, remove competing weather controllers, and put the final values in server.cfg or the resource configuration so they survive a restart.

FiveM does not provide one universal weather command that behaves identically on every server. Weather is normally displayed by each connected game client, while a resource or framework script decides what state should be synchronized to those clients. That distinction explains most weather problems: a local client command can appear to work for one player, while the server’s synchronization loop immediately restores another state for everyone.

Common controllers include the standalone kibook/weathersync resource, vMenu, QBCore’s qb-weathersync, and ESX-compatible weather resources such as fel_weathersync. Their command names, permissions, configuration files, and persistence behavior are different. Treat the resource that is actually running on your server as the source of truth.
Server-wide versus local weather
A server-wide change is issued by the server console, an authorized administrator command, or a server-side export. It is then synchronized to players. A local change is applied by a client command or client script and normally affects only that player until the authoritative resource overwrites it. If players report different skies, synchronization is disabled, a second controller is active, or the command was local rather than server-wide.
Manual versus dynamic weather
Manual weather holds the state you choose until another command or script changes it. Dynamic weather periodically selects or applies new conditions. A permanent clear-weather setup therefore requires both a chosen default and a disabled dynamic-weather loop; setting the current weather once is not enough when automation remains enabled.

Step 1: Identify the active weather resource
- Open the server’s
server.cfgand list everyensure,start, andexecline that could load a weather, time, synchronization, framework, or admin resource. - Inspect the server’s
resources/directory. Cfx.re documents that resources are loaded from this directory and require anfxmanifest.luafile or the legacy manifest. - Check the resource documentation and its configuration file for the commands it registers. Do not assume that a command named
/weatherbelongs to the resource you intend to use; multiple resources can register similar commands. - Look at the server console during startup. A resource that fails its manifest, dependency, or configuration will not be able to register its commands even if its folder exists.
- Choose one authoritative controller. If vMenu is intended to manage weather, do not leave a separate standalone synchronization loop active. If a framework weather resource is authoritative, configure vMenu or other scripts not to fight it.
Cfx.re’s server-command documentation notes that console commands can be executed through an RCon tool, the server console, a server configuration file, the server command line, or a resource permitted by the ACL to call EXECUTE_COMMAND. This is why testing from the server console is useful: it separates a command-registration problem from an in-game permission or chat problem.
Step 2: Install and start the selected resource
Place the resource folder inside the server’s resources/ directory, confirm that its manifest is present, and add a startup line to server.cfg. The general form is:

ensure resourceName
Replace resourceName with the actual folder/resource name shown in the installed package. The ensure command starts a stopped resource and restarts it when the server configuration is reloaded. Cfx.re also documents start and restart; use the command that matches your operational workflow, but keep the final startup instruction in server.cfg so a reboot does not remove it.
For the ESX-oriented example documented as fel_weathersync, the startup line is:

ensure fel_weathersync
After starting a resource, check the console for dependency or syntax errors before testing weather. A resource that is not running cannot register its commands, exports, or synchronization events.
Using kibook/weathersync
The documented kibook/weathersync command surface includes server weather, synchronization, time, forecast, wind, and administration controls. The central commands are:

Set weather from the game
- Confirm that the resource is running and that your identifier has the permission configured by the resource.
- Enter
/weather <type>with a valid type for the installed version. - Use
/weathersyncif synchronization is disabled and you need the selected state delivered to all players. - Have a second player reconnect or join after the change. A new player is a practical check that the state is being sent by the server rather than displayed only on your client.
The project also exposes server-side exports including getWeather, setWeather, getTime, and setTime, along with synchronization controls. A script can call those exports when another resource needs to coordinate weather, but use the exact export signature from the installed revision instead of copying an argument list from an unrelated release.

Set defaults in the resource configuration
Documented defaults include Config.time, Config.timescale, Config.realTimeOffset, Config.timeIsFrozen, and Config.weather. Edit the configuration used by your installed copy, restart the resource, and test with more than one player. A configured default determines what the resource loads at startup; it does not automatically disable another script that later applies its own weather.

When vMenu is the authoritative controller, its weather behavior is configured with setr entries in server.cfg. The key settings documented for this purpose are:

Example vMenu configuration pattern
Use the exact syntax and value format expected by the vMenu version installed on your server. A configuration follows this pattern:

setr vmenu_blackout_enabled false
setr vmenu_enable_snow false
The placeholder <your-weather-value> is intentional: the correct value depends on the weather names accepted by your installed vMenu revision. Do not paste a value merely because it appears in a guide for another release. Keep the settings in server.cfg, restart vMenu or the server as appropriate, and verify the result with another connected client.

Why a clear-weather setting can still change
If dynamic weather remains enabled, its timer can replace the current value. If a standalone synchronization resource or a framework resource is also running, whichever script writes last may win. Disable the competing controller or remove its startup line, then leave only the intended vMenu synchronization path active.
QBCore and ESX weather resources
Framework resources are not interchangeable with standalone commands. QBCore’s qb-weathersync implementation documents permission-checked server events for setting weather and time, freezing weather and time, toggling blackouts, and toggling dynamic weather. It also exposes administrator commands such as /weather and /freezeweather, plus related controls. The command may exist but still reject you if your QBCore authorization is not configured.
For an ESX-style alternative, fel_weathersync documents setWeather, setTime, freezeWeather, and freezeTime, and its installation instructions use ensure fel_weathersync in server.cfg. These are resource-specific interfaces, not universal FiveM commands.
Permission checks are part of the feature
A command that returns “permission denied” is usually working as designed. Check the framework group, the resource’s admin list, or the relevant ACE permission rather than repeatedly changing the weather command. Test from the server console, where applicable, to determine whether the problem is authorization in chat or a resource that failed to load.
Persist weather after a restart
A one-time command changes runtime state. It does not necessarily become the startup state. For persistence:

- Put the resource’s
ensureline inserver.cfg. - Put vMenu
setrvalues inserver.cfg, or put standalone-resource defaults in that resource’s documented configuration file. - Choose whether weather should be frozen or dynamic. For a permanent condition, disable the dynamic loop and set the default weather.
- Restart the resource or server and read the startup console for errors.
- Join with a second client and confirm that both players receive the same state.
Use restart resourceName for a controlled resource reload when the resource supports it. If a configuration change appears ignored, verify that you edited the configuration file actually loaded by the installed revision and that another resource is not applying a later value.
Troubleshooting weather that does not behave as expected
“Command not found”
- Confirm the resource is present under
resources/and has a valid manifest. - Confirm its
ensureorstartline is inserver.cfgand that startup logs show it loading. - Check the resource documentation for the exact command. Similar names do not guarantee the same command set.
- If the command belongs to a framework resource, make sure the framework itself is running before the weather resource starts.
“Permission denied”
- Check the resource’s administrator or ACE configuration.
- For QBCore, verify that your player group is authorized for the weather events and commands.
- Try the equivalent operation from the server console when the resource permits console execution. This helps isolate chat permissions from weather logic.
Weather changes and then reverts
- Search
server.cfgand the resource list for more than one weather-sync or dynamic-weather controller. - Disable dynamic weather if the goal is a fixed condition.
- Inspect scripts that call weather natives or synchronization exports on a timer.
- Apply the change through the authoritative server resource rather than a local client control.
Only one player sees the change
- Enable the selected resource’s synchronization feature.
- Use a server-wide command or server-side export, not a local weather control.
- Check synchronization delay settings and test with a newly connected player.
- Make sure every client is receiving the same resource state and that no client script is overriding it.
The setting resets after reboot
- Move the value into
server.cfgor the resource’s documented configuration. - Ensure the resource starts on boot.
- Check for configuration files that are regenerated or selected by environment-specific startup scripts.
- Read the startup log to confirm that the intended resource loads after its dependencies.
Blackout or snow does not match the weather
Blackout and snow are separate controls in vMenu. A clear sky does not imply normal lighting, and a weather value alone does not guarantee a snow effect. Check vmenu_blackout_enabled and vmenu_enable_snow independently, then confirm that no framework resource is changing those effects.

Consider five questions before selecting a controller: must the weather be identical for everyone; should it change automatically; which permission system should govern it; must the state survive a restart; and do you need transition duration, blackout, snow, or script-facing exports? The answers determine whether a standalone resource, vMenu, or framework integration fits your server.
Operational practices that prevent conflicts
- Document one authoritative weather resource in your server administration notes.
- Keep its startup line and persistent settings together in
server.cfgwhere practical. - Do not run multiple synchronization loops unless their documentation explicitly explains how they coordinate.
- After changing a setting, test server console behavior, an administrator client, and a second ordinary player client.
- Record the installed resource revision before copying command syntax or configuration values from another guide.
- When adding a script that changes time or weather, use the existing resource’s server-side exports where available instead of creating a second controller.
Once the active controller is identified and the competing loops are removed, weather changes become predictable: issue the controller’s server-wide command, confirm synchronization, and persist the desired behavior in the startup configuration.
