To change where a Satisfactory server begins, open Server Manager, authenticate with administrator permissions, open Create Game, choose a starting area, enter a unique session name, and create the session. This starts a new game and removes the existing session’s progress. If you need to keep your factory, do not create a new session: move the HUB instead. The HUB changes the respawn point while leaving the factory and world intact.
Choose the method that matches your goal
Satisfactory treats the starting area as part of a game session. Selecting a different area during session creation is not a cosmetic spawn-setting change; it creates a new game state. Existing construction, research progress and other session progress are therefore not carried into the new session.
There are two distinct ways to achieve what players commonly call a “spawn change”:
- Start a new session in another area: use this when you want a clean game and accept losing the current session’s progress.
- Move the HUB: use this when the factory must remain. The HUB is the respawn point and can be relocated at any time, so this changes where players return without resetting the world.
The map is one interconnected world. Your initial area affects the opening location and early surroundings, but it does not permanently confine the server to that region.

Available starting areas
The Create Game screen offers four starting areas. Their names and the practical choice they represent are shown below.

Dune Desert is specifically recommended for advanced players because the limited foliage and contained water make the opening more difficult. The other three choices are not ranked in the available evidence, so choose among them according to the location your group prefers rather than assuming one is objectively easier.
Before creating a new session
Confirm that resetting is acceptable
Creating a session from the Create Game tab erases the current session’s progress. If the server already contains a factory you want to preserve, stop and use the HUB relocation method described later. A starting-area selection cannot be applied to the existing world as an in-place conversion.

Make sure you can administer the server
Only an administrator can change the session through Server Manager. Have the administrator password available if the server asks for it. A normal player connection is not sufficient to perform this operation.
Plan a session name
Choose a name that is unique on the server. Avoid special characters and accented letters: the available hosting guidance warns that they can prevent initial map generation. Plain letters, numbers and simple spacing are the safest choice when creating the session.
Allow time for synchronization
After creation, the server may take up to one hour to synchronize. Do not assume that an unchanged screen immediately means the selection failed. If the world does not load after the synchronization period, repeat the creation steps and verify that the intended area is highlighted before confirming.

How to start a new session in a different area
- Open Server Manager. From the game’s main menu, open Server Manager and select the server you want to configure.
- Authenticate as administrator. Sign in with administrator permissions. Enter the administrator password if prompted.
- Open Create Game. Select the Create Game tab in Server Manager. This is the session-creation screen, not an ordinary join or load command.
- Select the region. Choose Grass Fields, Rocky Desert, Northern Forest or Dune Desert. Confirm the highlighted area visually before proceeding.
- Enter a unique session name. Use a name that is not already in use and avoid special characters or accents to reduce the risk of map-generation failure.
- Create the game. Confirm the creation command. Treat this as a reset: progress from the previous session is erased rather than moved to the new starting area.
- Wait for synchronization. Allow as much as one hour for the server to apply the change and synchronize the world.
- Verify the result. Join the session and check that the opening location corresponds to the selected area. If the world fails to load, repeat the process and recheck the highlighted region before creating it again.
How to change the respawn point without losing the factory
Use the HUB as the non-destructive alternative
If the objective is to have players appear in another part of the existing world, relocate the HUB rather than creating a session. The HUB determines the respawn point. Moving it changes that point while the factory remains intact.
When this is the right choice
- The server already has construction, production progress or exploration you want to keep.
- You want to establish a new operating base in another region of the same interconnected map.
- You mean “starting area” as the place players reappear, not the biome selected when the world was first generated.
What this does not change
HUB relocation does not regenerate the world and does not convert the original session into a different map-start choice. It changes the respawn location inside the existing world. The original factory and its progress stay in place.
Starting area versus respawn location

Troubleshooting a failed or apparently unchanged change
The Create Game tab is unavailable
Check that you selected the correct server in Server Manager and authenticated as an administrator. The starting-area control is part of session creation, so it will not appear in a normal player view.

The wrong area appears highlighted
Do not continue until the intended region is highlighted. Return to the area selection, choose the desired option again, and verify it visually. A highlighted selection is the confirmation that the server is about to create the intended start.

The world does not load
Initial synchronization can take up to one hour. If the world still fails to load after that interval, repeat the procedure: select the server, authenticate, open Create Game, choose the area, confirm the highlight, use a unique plain session name, and create the game again.
Session creation fails immediately
Review the session name first. Special characters and accented letters may block initial map generation. Replace them with a simple unique name and retry.

The factory disappeared after the change
This is the expected result of creating a new session, not a HUB-movement operation. A new starting-area selection resets progress. If keeping the factory was required, the non-destructive option was to relocate the HUB in the existing session.
The menu labels do not match
Menu details can vary by game or server version. The available hosting instructions are several years old and no official 2026 developer procedure was available for confirmation. If your labels differ, use the in-game Server Manager and look for the session-creation screen, the four starting-area choices, and the administrator authentication step rather than relying on an exact menu position from an older guide.
Practical decision guide
Choose a new session when
- You intentionally want to restart from zero.
- The group has agreed that the existing factory and progress can be discarded.
- You want one of the four area choices to define the new world’s opening location.
- You are prepared to wait for synchronization and to retry if loading fails.
Move the HUB when
- The existing factory must remain available.
- The real requirement is a different respawn or operating location.
- You want to continue using the same interconnected world.
Select Dune Desert only with an experienced group
Dune Desert is the demanding option because foliage and water are rare and contained. It suits advanced players who deliberately want those constraints. If your group is seeking a less punishing opening, consider one of the other three areas instead; the available evidence does not establish a detailed difficulty ranking among them.
What changes after the operation
After creating a new session
The server has a new game session whose opening area is the selected region. The previous session’s progress is gone, and players begin from the new world’s start. Because the map is interconnected, the group can later travel beyond that initial region.
After moving the HUB
The existing session remains in use. The HUB’s new position becomes the respawn point, while the factory and its established world remain intact. This is the appropriate result when “change starting area” really means “make our base and respawn point somewhere else.”
