Godlike.Host offers hosted Satisfactory servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To rename a Satisfactory dedicated server, open Server Manager in the game, select the server, authenticate as an administrator, go to Server Settings, edit Server Name, and select Apply. If the old name remains visible, restart the server from your hosting panel. Do not edit Session Name by mistake: it is a separate save-related name and follows a different process.
What the server-name change actually does
The Server Name is the label players see when they locate or select your dedicated server. Changing it does not rename the world, alter player progress, or rename the save file. The setting is changed through Satisfactory’s in-game Server Manager rather than by renaming a file in the host’s file manager.

Before you start
- Make sure the server is reachable from the Satisfactory main menu and appears in Server Manager.
- Have the server’s administrator password available. A normal player account cannot change administrator-only settings.
- Tell connected players that you may need to restart the server after saving the new name.
- If you are also considering a session-name change, make a backup of the save before using any third-party save-editing method.
Change the Satisfactory server name in Server Manager
- Open Server Manager. Start Satisfactory and choose Server Manager from the main menu.
- Select the server. Choose the dedicated server whose public label you want to change.
- Authenticate as administrator. When prompted, enter the server’s Administrator Password, then choose Authenticate and Confirm. The exact confirmation wording can differ slightly between versions.
- Open Server Settings. After authentication, select the Server Settings tab. Administrator access is required before protected settings can be edited.
- Locate the server-name control. Find the field labelled Server Name. If your version shows Change Server Name instead, open that control.
- Enter the new name. Replace the existing text with the label you want players to see. Check spelling and capitalization before saving.
- Apply the change. Select Apply (or the equivalent save button shown by your version). Wait for the settings operation to finish.
- Verify it. Return to the server list or reconnect from another client and check that the new label is displayed.
These steps reflect the procedure described by multiple hosting providers. Satisfactory’s official documentation did not provide a verified field-by-field rename procedure in the material available for this article, so labels should be treated as version-dependent.

Server Name and Session Name are different
Server Manager can show two similar-looking names. Editing the wrong one is the most common reason a rename appears not to work.

Renaming a .sav file alone does not change the session name, according to a community Q&A report. A save-editor guide recommends downloading the save, renaming the relevant session value with a tool, and uploading it again. That is third-party advice rather than an official Satisfactory procedure. Back up the original save and verify that the server is stopped before replacing files.

If the new name does not appear
The standard recovery step reported by Apex Hosting is a full restart from the hosting panel. A settings request can be accepted while the running process continues to advertise its old value.
- Open the control panel supplied by your server host.
- Stop the Satisfactory server and wait until the panel reports that the process has stopped.
- Start the server again and wait for it to report an online or running state.
- Close and reopen Server Manager in the game, then select the server again.
- Check the displayed name. If it is still unchanged, authenticate again and confirm that you edited Server Name, not Session Name.
Do not repeatedly submit the setting while the server is still starting. One completed apply operation followed by a clean restart is less likely to leave you unsure which value is active.

Troubleshooting by symptom

Changing the session name: limitations and safer handling
If your goal is to rename the world or session shown in save-related locations, changing Server Name will not accomplish it. A save-editor page claims that Server Manager has no session-rename function and suggests a download-edit-upload workaround. Because this is not an official workflow, use it only when the session name is important enough to justify the risk.
Prepare a reversible backup
- Stop the server and wait for the host panel to confirm that it is offline.
- Download the current save and keep an untouched copy outside the server’s live save directory.
- Record the original file name and the current session name.
- Do not overwrite the only copy with an edited file.
Apply the third-party workaround cautiously
- Use a save editor that explicitly supports the Satisfactory save format and your game version.
- Change only the session-name value; avoid unrelated world, player, or blueprint fields.
- Save the edited file under the name and location expected by the host.
- Upload the edited save through the host’s file manager or FTP service, depending on what that host provides.
- Start the server and test loading, saving, and blueprint operations before deleting the backup.
A session name ending in . deserves special attention. A community Q&A report describes blueprint-saving crashes when the name ends with a period because Windows removes trailing periods from folder names. Use a name that does not end in a period or other filesystem-sensitive punctuation.

Do not rely on unverified reset instructions
A community thread quotes a wiki procedure that allegedly clears the password, server name, and session name by deleting a file named in the form ServerSettings.<port>. The referenced wiki page was not verified, and deleting a settings file can remove more than the intended label. Do not use that method as a routine rename step. If you are considering it because normal editing fails, first export or copy every available server setting and obtain instructions specific to your game version and host.
How hosting panels affect the process
The in-game rename path is generally the same regardless of host, but the surrounding controls differ. Wabbanode, BisectHosting, Pine Hosting, and Apex Hosting describe variations in authentication, restart behavior, or file access. Some panels provide a web file manager; others require FTP. Those differences matter for save editing and backups, not for the normal Server Manager → Server Settings → Server Name → Apply operation.

If your host has separate start, stop, and restart buttons, use the explicit restart or perform a complete stop followed by start. Wait for the panel’s status to change before launching Server Manager again. A panel that still reports “starting,” “stopping,” or an otherwise transitional state may not yet be advertising the new setting.
Naming guidance that avoids avoidable problems
- Use a short, recognizable label that tells invited players which community or world they are joining.
- Check the final text in Server Manager after applying it; do not assume the client preserved leading or trailing spaces.
- Avoid ending a session name with a period, especially if you are editing save data.
- Keep a written record of the administrator password and host-panel access separately from the public server name.
- When testing a rename, have one player verify the listing from a fresh client session rather than relying only on an already-open menu.
What is confirmed and what remains version-dependent
The repeatable procedure reported by several hosting guides is to authenticate in Server Manager, open Server Settings, edit Server Name, and apply the change. Restarting from the hosting panel is the established troubleshooting step when the old label remains. The distinction between Server Name and Session Name is also consistent across the available guidance.
Exact labels are not guaranteed across every Satisfactory release: some instructions refer to a Server Name field, while others refer to a Change Server Name button.
