Godlike.Host offers hosted BeamNG.drive servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To change a BeamMP server’s public name, stop the server, open ServerConfig.toml, edit the Name value under [General], save the file, and start the server again. The new name is shown in the public server list after the server reconnects.
This procedure applies whether you manage the files directly or use a hosting panel. The important details are editing the correct configuration file, preserving valid TOML syntax, and checking for a panel or environment setting that may overwrite the file value.
How to change a BeamMP server name in ServerConfig.toml
BeamMP stores the display name in the server configuration file named ServerConfig.toml. The setting belongs to the [General] section and is written as a quoted TOML string.
[General]

1. Stop the BeamMP server
Stop the running instance before opening or saving its configuration. Use the Stop control in your hosting panel, the service manager you normally use, or the server process’s regular shutdown method. Editing a live file can fail if the process rewrites its configuration when it exits, and a running instance will continue advertising the old value until it is restarted.
2. Open the active ServerConfig.toml file
Open the configuration file for the specific BeamMP instance whose name you want to change. Servers can have separate folders or panel entries, so confirm that you are working on the same instance that appears in the public list. If you operate more than one server, check the instance name, port assignment, or panel directory before saving anything.

Find the [General] heading and its Name entry. Change only the text between the quotation marks. For example:
[General]

# Other settings remain unchangedAvoid changing Name to serverName. A generic hosting article may use that spelling, but BeamMP’s documented key is Name; a differently named key will not set the BeamMP display name.
4. Save the file without changing its format
Save ServerConfig.toml as plain text. Keep the .toml extension and preserve the brackets, equals sign, and quotation marks. If your editor offers a choice of file type, use a normal text or TOML-compatible format rather than a word-processing format.

5. Start the server and verify the listing
Start the same instance again. BeamMP reads the configuration during startup, and the changed name appears in the public server list once the server is back online. Refresh the list or reconnect your client if it still shows an older listing immediately after startup.
Changing the name on a panel-hosted server
Hosting panels commonly provide a graphical editor, so you do not have to download and edit the file manually. The labels can vary slightly, but the documented route is:
- Stop the BeamMP server.
- Open Configuration Files in the panel.
- Locate
ServerConfig.tomland click its Config Editor icon. - Edit the Server Name field, which writes the
Namevalue in the file. - Click Save.
- Start the server and wait for it to return to the public list.
Some panels also expose a Server Name variable on a Startup tab. If that field exists, inspect it after saving the file. A startup variable can be applied when the server launches and may replace the value you entered in ServerConfig.toml. Keep the two values consistent, or clear the startup variable when you want the file to be authoritative.
Direct file edit or Config Editor?
Both methods change the same BeamMP setting. Choose the route that matches how your server is administered.

The panel route is convenient when the host manages permissions and file paths. A direct edit is useful when you control the server files or need to inspect the exact value being loaded.

BeamMP server name not changing? Check these causes
The server was never restarted
BeamMP does not apply a new display name to an already running process merely because the file changed on disk. Stop the instance completely, save the file, and start it again. If the panel reports that the process is still stopping, wait until it has exited before launching it.
You edited a different instance
Multiple servers may have separate configuration files with identical names. Verify the panel entry or directory associated with the public listing you are checking. A successful edit in one folder has no effect on another running instance.
A startup field is overwriting the file
On panels that provide a Startup tab, look for a server-name variable after editing the file. If it contains the old name, the panel may write that value during launch. Update the variable to the desired name or remove it according to the panel’s controls, then restart the server again.
An environment variable may take priority
A search summary reports that BeamMP Server v3.2.0 and later can accept BEAMMP_NAME as an environment variable and that this value takes priority over the Name entry in the file. This behavior is not confirmed here against an official BeamMP page, so treat it as a deployment-specific check rather than a universal rule. If your service definition, container, or panel sets BEAMMP_NAME, inspect its value and change or remove it before restarting.

Check the edited line character by character:
- The section heading is
[General], including square brackets. - The key is capitalized exactly as
Name. - An equals sign separates the key and value.
- The value is enclosed in matching straight double quotation marks.
- There is no second
Nameentry elsewhere that could cause confusion.
If the server fails to start after the edit, restore the previous file from your backup and then reapply the change with a plain-text editor. A missing quote or an accidental formatting character can make the configuration invalid.

The public list has not refreshed yet
The name is visible only after the server is online again. Give the instance time to complete startup, then refresh the in-game server browser. If another player still sees the old text while your local list is current, have them refresh their browser or reconnect; the stale result may be a cached listing rather than an unread configuration.
The file is read-only or was not saved
Reopen ServerConfig.toml after saving and confirm that the new text is still present. On a managed panel, click its Save button rather than navigating away after typing. On a self-managed installation, verify that your account can write to the server directory and that the editor did not save a second file with an added extension such as .txt.
Formatting, colors, and name length
The official BeamMP server-maintenance documentation is described as having a name-customization section covering colors and similar formatting. The exact formatting syntax is not established here, so do not assume that chat-color codes or markup from another game will work. Use a plain name first, confirm that it appears correctly, and consult the current BeamMP maintenance documentation for supported formatting before adding special characters.
No official character limit is established in the available documentation for this procedure. A third-party guide mentions a limit of up to 250 characters, but that figure is not confirmed by official BeamMP documentation and should not be treated as a guaranteed allowance. If a long name does not display correctly, shorten it and test again rather than relying on an undocumented maximum.

Make a quick backup
Before editing, copy ServerConfig.toml to a separate file or use your panel’s download or backup function. A backup gives you a known-good configuration if the server refuses to start or another setting is changed accidentally.

Change one setting at a time
Edit only the Name value for a rename. If you also need to change ports, permissions, or gameplay settings, perform those changes separately so that a startup problem can be traced to one edit.
Use a temporary test name when diagnosing
For troubleshooting, choose a short, unmistakable value such as NAME-TEST. Restart the server and check the public list. Once that value appears, replace it with the final name. This separates a loading problem from a display or formatting problem.

If the server does not start, stop trying variations in the live file. Stop the instance, restore the backup, and start it with the known-good configuration. Then make one minimal edit and save again.
What name players actually see
The Name setting controls the server’s advertised display name in BeamMP’s public list. It does not rename the folder containing the server, the operating-system service, the panel entry, or the executable. Those labels can remain unchanged while players see the new public name.
If you want administration labels to match as well, update them separately in your panel or service manager. Do not rename directories merely to change the public listing; the BeamMP display value is controlled by [General] → Name.
Checklist before declaring the rename complete
- The server was stopped before the file or panel editor was changed.
- The active instance’s
ServerConfig.tomlwas edited. - The line is under
[General]and uses the exact keyName. - The value is enclosed in straight double quotation marks.
- The file or Config Editor was saved successfully.
- Any panel Startup name variable was checked for an old value.
- If applicable, the
BEAMMP_NAMEenvironment variable was inspected. - The server was started again and reached an online state.
- The public server list was refreshed before judging the result.
Quick example
Suppose the file currently contains:

Name = "Friday Convoy | EU"Save, start the same instance, and refresh the public list. If the old name remains, follow the troubleshooting checks above in order, beginning with a full restart and confirmation that you edited the correct instance.
