To change the number of players who can belong to a Soulmask tribe, edit the setting that controls tribe membership—not the separate recruitment or NPC limits. On a hosted server, stop the server, open Config Files → Server Settings, and change Max Tribe Capacity. If your host exposes the game’s coefficient menu, use Coefficient Settings → General → Tribe Persons instead. A startup option called -GongHuiMaxMember=N appears in third-party guides, but its key, default, and precedence are not confirmed by official documentation.
Which setting controls the player limit?
Soulmask exposes several similarly named limits. Only the tribe-capacity setting controls how many human players can belong to one tribe. Changing a recruitment limit can leave the actual player cap unchanged.

The safest approach is to use the setting your host explicitly labels Max Tribe Capacity or Tribe Persons. Treat a startup parameter as an advanced fallback only after confirming that your server build accepts it.
Method 1: change Max Tribe Capacity in a hosting panel
This is the most direct method when your provider supplies a graphical configuration editor. The panel route described by BisectHosting uses a server-settings page rather than requiring you to locate an unknown configuration key manually.

Before you edit
- Tell connected players that the server will be unavailable during the change.
- Stop the server completely. Editing while the process is running can be overwritten when the game saves its current settings.
- Make a backup of the configuration files or use the panel’s backup/snapshot function if available. Keep the original so you can restore the previous value if the server fails to start or the cap does not change.
- Record the current tribe size and the new value you intend to test. This makes it easier to distinguish a real cap change from a display or synchronization problem.
Panel procedure
- Open your server-management panel and select the Soulmask server.
- Stop the server and wait until the panel reports that the process has fully shut down.
- Open the Config Files dropdown.
- Choose Server Settings.
- Find Max Tribe Capacity. Use the panel’s numeric field or text box; do not alter unrelated settings while testing.
- Enter the desired maximum number of human tribe members. For example, entering
30is intended to allow up to 30 players, provided the current build and host apply the value as described. - Save or apply the configuration.
- Start the server and wait for it to finish loading before asking another player to join the tribe.
Panel labels are an abstraction over the underlying files. If your provider uses a different menu name, search its configuration editor for Max Tribe Capacity, not for recruitment or NPC terms. Do not assume that a field named Tribe Recruitment limit is interchangeable.
Confirm that the panel value took effect
- Join the server with an administrator account or the account that normally manages the tribe.
- Open the tribe-management screen and note the displayed capacity, if the current build exposes one.
- Invite a test account only after the server has restarted. The useful test is whether the next member can join when the previous limit would have blocked the invitation.
- If the old limit remains, stop the server again, reopen the settings page, and verify that the saved value is still present. A value that reverted usually indicates an unsaved edit, a panel template overwriting the file, or a setting controlled elsewhere.
Method 2: use Coefficient Settings and Tribe Persons
Some servers expose the relevant value inside the game’s coefficient configuration. Citadel Servers describes the path as Coefficient Settings → General, with the setting named Tribe Persons. Its knowledge-base result lists 20 as the default, but that number should be treated as a listed default rather than a guarantee for every build, host, or existing server.
Changing the coefficient
- Open the server’s configuration or coefficient-settings interface with an account that has permission to edit server settings.
- Select Coefficient Settings.
- Open the General tab.
- Locate Tribe Persons.
- Replace the existing number with the desired human-player cap.
- Apply or save the change using the interface’s save control.
- Restart the server if the interface requests a restart, then verify the capacity with a controlled invitation test.
If you cannot find Tribe Persons, do not substitute a similarly named recruitment field. The menu may be hidden by your host, moved in a newer build, or unavailable to ordinary in-game administrators. In that case, use the hosting-panel field if one exists or ask the provider which supported interface maps to the tribe-player cap.

Understanding the listed default of 20
A value of 20 is reported as the default for Tribe Persons by Citadel Servers. It is not an official, universal promise that every new or existing server starts at exactly 20. Hosts can ship different templates, and a prior administrator may already have changed the value. Read the value currently displayed by your server as the operative setting.
Advanced option: the proposed startup parameter
Several third-party guides name -GongHuiMaxMember=N as a startup parameter for the maximum tribe or guild member count. One example uses -GongHuiMaxMember=50; another result associates a default of 20 with the parameter. Because those figures conflict and no official Soulmask documentation confirms the key or its precedence, this option is unverified.
When not to use it
- Do not add the parameter merely because a recruitment limit is set to 50.
- Do not assume that a value shown in a guide applies to your current game build.
- Do not combine a panel value, an in-game coefficient, and a startup argument without first recording which one is active. If the game reads more than one source, the winning value is undocumented.
If your host explicitly supports startup arguments
- Stop the server and back up its current startup command or launch-parameter field.
- Add the parameter in the host’s startup-arguments box using the exact spelling and hyphenation supplied by that host:
-GongHuiMaxMember=N. - Replace
Nwith the intended cap, for example50. Do not include angle brackets or quotation marks. - Save the startup command, start the server, and inspect the startup log for an error or an acknowledgement of the argument.
- Test tribe membership with a controlled invitation. If the limit is unchanged, remove the parameter and return to the supported panel or coefficient setting instead of stacking additional guesses.
A server that ignores the option is not evidence that the tribe cap is impossible to change; it may simply mean that this build does not recognize the proposed key or that another configuration source takes precedence.

Do not confuse the tribe cap with recruitment limits
The most common failed change is editing a value that governs recruitment rather than membership. A guide attributed to Gazlabs lists a Tribe Recruitment limit with a default of 50 and identifies the key as GongHuiMaxZhaoMuCount. That setting concerns recruitment actions; it does not establish how many human players can occupy the tribe.
Likewise, the per-player NPC recruit limit applies to the number of NPC companions an individual player may recruit. It is unrelated to the number of human accounts in the tribe. If your goal is to let a 21st player join, changing either of these limits is the wrong fix.

Back up, restart, and verify safely
Changing a server setting is low risk when you preserve the original configuration and make one change at a time. Use this sequence whenever you edit the cap:

- Stop: confirm that the server process is offline before editing files or panel values.
- Back up: download or snapshot the relevant configuration and write down the old number.
- Change one value: edit only Max Tribe Capacity or Tribe Persons for the first test.
- Save: use the panel’s explicit save/apply control, then verify the value remains after leaving and reopening the page.
- Restart: start the server and wait for a complete load.
- Test: attempt an invitation that would have exceeded the old cap. A successful test is stronger evidence than relying on a stale UI label.
- Record: note the build, host interface, value, and result so future updates can be compared.
If the server fails to start after an advanced edit, stop it, restore the backed-up startup command or configuration, and start it again before trying another method. Avoid changing several files at once; otherwise you cannot identify which edit caused the failure.

Troubleshooting when the limit does not change
The panel shows the new value, but the game still uses the old cap
- Confirm that the server was stopped before the edit and restarted afterward.
- Check that you changed Max Tribe Capacity, not a recruitment or NPC field.
- Reopen the settings page after saving. If the number reverted, the panel may be regenerating its configuration from a template.
- Check whether the host provides both a panel field and a coefficient editor. A different source may be overriding the value.
- Ask the host which setting is supported for the current Soulmask build; the exact underlying file name and precedence are not established by official documentation.
The coefficient menu is missing
The Tribe Persons control may not be exposed by your provider or may have moved in your build. Use the hosting-panel route when available. Do not infer that an absent menu means the cap is hard-coded.
The startup parameter has no effect
Remove the unverified argument, restore the supported configuration, and test the panel or coefficient route. The parameter’s spelling appears in third-party guides, but no official source confirms that every dedicated server build reads it.

Players see different capacity information
Have everyone reconnect after the restart and test from the tribe leader’s account. Cached interface data can lag behind the server’s authoritative value. If the invitation still fails at the new cap, treat the server-side behavior as decisive and recheck the saved setting.
Choosing a sensible cap
Set the cap to the largest tribe you actually intend to operate, then increase it in a controlled test rather than jumping between several configuration sources. A larger number can make coordination and territory management harder even when the server accepts it. The configuration controls eligibility to belong to the tribe; it does not guarantee that every related system, interface, or community rule scales cleanly to an arbitrarily high value.

For a public server, document the value in the server rules and test invitations with accounts that represent the expected maximum. If an update changes the menu or resets the setting, the backup and change log let you restore the intended cap quickly.
What is and is not confirmed
Hosting-provider instructions support the two practical labels—Max Tribe Capacity and Tribe Persons—but no official Soulmask developer or wiki page identified in the available material confirms the exact configuration filename, internal key, or precedence between startup arguments, Engine.ini, and GameXishu.json. One guide discusses Engine.ini for core settings such as a player cap under a [Dedicated.Settings] section, yet no source shows a verified tribe-size key there. Do not add a tribe-capacity entry to Engine.ini based on that general claim alone.
Builds and host templates can change the available controls. Use the supported interface shown by your provider, preserve a backup, restart after saving, and verify with an actual tribe invitation. That process avoids mistaking a recruitment limit, an NPC limit, or an unrecognized startup switch for the human-player cap.
