On a Legacy (Unreal Engine 4) dedicated server, change the map by editing ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/Engine.ini while the server is stopped, adding ServerDefaultMap with the target map path, saving the file, and restarting. For Isle of Siptah, use /Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_Siptah. This method does not provide a separate Siptah server on the Enhanced (Unreal Engine 5) build: Funcom merged Siptah into Exiled Lands and closed separate Siptah PC servers on May 4 at 15:00.
First, identify which Conan Exiles build your server uses
The correct map procedure depends on whether the server is running Legacy (UE4) or Enhanced (UE5). A configuration that is valid for Legacy cannot create a separate Isle of Siptah world on Enhanced.

To opt into Legacy through Steam, open your Conan Exiles library entry, choose Properties, open Game Versions & Betas, and select Conan Exiles Legacy. The server and every connecting player must use the same branch. A host guide updated in 2026 still showing Isle of Siptah as a selectable map is probably describing this Legacy setup, not Enhanced.
What changes when you switch maps
A map switch starts a different world rather than moving the existing world state into a new map. The old map’s save remains in the server’s Saved directory, so you can return to it if you preserve the files. On Legacy, the Siptah database is named dlc_siptah.db.

- Buildings, containers, thralls, resources, and discovered locations belong to the save for the map on which they were created.
- Changing the default map does not merge those world objects into another map.
- Characters and progression should be treated as map-version data; do not assume a live character will appear exactly as before after changing builds.
- Back up the complete
ConanSandboxdirectory, including
oSaveddlc_siptah.db, before changing the map or switching between Legacy and Enhanced.
Because the edit is destructive if a backup is missing, schedule the change during a maintenance window and tell players that the server will load a separate world.
Before editing Engine.ini
Stop the server completely
Use the host panel’s Stop action or stop the dedicated-server service and wait until the process has exited. One host guide reports that an edit made while the server was running was overwritten when the in-game administration layer shut the server down. Editing only after the process has stopped avoids that conflict.

Make a dated backup
- Copy the entire
ConanSandbox/Savedfolder to storage outside the live server directory. - Confirm that the backup contains the current map database and, if you have used Siptah,
dlc_siptah.db. - Save a copy of
Engine.inias well, so you can restore the previous default map without reconstructing the file.
Confirm the edition and DLC
Use the Legacy procedure only when the server and clients are on the Legacy branch. Isle of Siptah is paid DLC; each player who joins a Legacy Siptah server must own it. A player on Enhanced, or a Legacy player without the DLC, cannot be made compatible by changing the server setting.
Switch a Legacy Windows server to Isle of Siptah
The following key and path are the values described by dedicated-server host guides. Funcom’s public server documentation does not establish a different official key in the material available here.
- Stop the server and wait for the process to close.
- Open the server’s configuration file at
ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/Engine.ini. - Find the existing section named
[/Script/EngineSettings.GameMapsSettings]. If it is absent, add it as its own section. - Under that section, add this line exactly:
ServerDefaultMap=/Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_Siptah - Save the file as plain text, preserving the
.iniextension. - Start the server normally and allow it to finish loading before players connect.
The relevant block should look like this:
[/Script/EngineSettings.GameMapsSettings]
ServerDefaultMap=/Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_SiptahDo not substitute GameDefaultMap for ServerDefaultMap. Host documentation identifies GameDefaultMap as a client-side setting that a dedicated server may ignore; the server-side key is ServerDefaultMap.

Use the Linux path when the server runs on Linux
Linux hosting uses the same map value but a different configuration-directory name. Open:
ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Engine.iniAdd the same [/Script/EngineSettings.GameMapsSettings] section and ServerDefaultMap line shown above. Case and punctuation matter in Unreal configuration paths, so paste the value rather than retyping it. Stop the service before editing and start it again afterward.
Return a Legacy server to Exiled Lands
Stop the server before changing the file again. You can either remove the Siptah line from the GameMapsSettings section or explicitly set the Exiled Lands map:
[/Script/EngineSettings.GameMapsSettings]
ServerDefaultMap=/Game/Maps/ConanSandbox/ConanSandboxUsing the explicit Exiled Lands value makes the intended map visible to future administrators. Removing the line also returns the server to Exiled Lands according to the host procedures, but an explicit value is easier to audit when several administrators share the configuration.
Changing this value does not delete the Siptah save. Leave dlc_siptah.db in the Saved directory if you expect to switch back later, and keep your backup in a separate location.

When a hosting panel ignores Engine.ini
Some service managers do not start the same executable or arguments that you use in a command prompt. A TCAdmin community report describes Engine.ini loading Siptah when the server was started manually, while the managed service continued to launch Exiled Lands. In that case, the panel needs a separate launch-parameter setting.
Check the panel’s command-line control
- Stop the service.
- Open the panel’s Commandline Manager, startup-arguments editor, or equivalent service configuration page.
- Choose the Conan Exiles command-line entry. Some panels expose a field in which
ConanSandboxis replaced withDLC_Isle_of_Siptahfor the Siptah launch. - Use the full map asset path required by that panel’s template:
/Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_Siptah. - Save the service configuration and start the server.
There is no single panel-independent command-line syntax established for every host. Do not invent a flag or paste an argument intended for a different panel; use the field’s documented map or startup-parameter format. If the panel regenerates Engine.ini on every start, the command-line setting may be the authoritative configuration.
Verify that the server loaded the intended map
Check from the player side
- Confirm that the server appears under the Legacy branch and that the displayed map is Isle of Siptah or Exiled Lands as intended.
- Join with a test account before announcing the change. A successful connection to a newly generated landscape indicates that the map asset loaded.
- Check that the expected map-specific content is present. Seeing the old landscape usually means the service started with a different configuration or launch argument.
Check the configuration after startup
Stop the server again only if you need to inspect or edit files. Re-open the active Engine.ini and confirm that the section and value were not removed or rewritten. If your host has separate Windows and Linux templates, make sure you edited the directory used by the running service rather than an unused template folder.
Troubleshoot a server that still loads Exiled Lands
The file was edited while the server was running
Stop the server, restore the intended line, save the file, and start it again. A running server or administration layer can write its in-memory settings back to disk during shutdown, erasing an edit made mid-session.

The wrong key was used
Replace GameDefaultMap with ServerDefaultMap under [/Script/EngineSettings.GameMapsSettings]. The former is described as a client-side key in host guidance.

The service manager has its own startup arguments
Start the executable manually only as a diagnostic. If manual startup loads Siptah but the panel does not, inspect the panel’s command-line or startup configuration and set the map there as well. Otherwise the service may override the file-based default.
The path contains a typo
Use the exact asset path, including capitalization and underscores:
/Game/DLC_EXT/DLC_Siptah/Maps/DLC_Isle_of_SiptahDo not use a filesystem path such as ConanSandbox/Saved as the map value; that directory contains saves and configuration, not the Unreal map asset.
The server and player builds do not match
Verify that everyone is on Conan Exiles Legacy. Enhanced clients cannot join a Legacy Siptah server, and a Legacy client on another branch may fail to find or load the server correctly.
The host has changed or regenerated the configuration
Compare the live file with your backup after stopping the service. Some managed hosts write configuration from a web form or template at startup. In that environment, enter the map through the host’s configuration interface and keep a copy of the resulting file for reference.

Enhanced servers: why a separate Siptah map is not available
On Enhanced (UE5), Funcom merged Isle of Siptah with Exiled Lands and closed separate Siptah PC servers on May 4 at 15:00. Therefore, adding the Legacy asset path to an Enhanced server is not a supported way to create a standalone Siptah world. The correct action is to run the merged Enhanced world or move to the Legacy branch if a separate Siptah server is a hard requirement.
Legacy receives critical fixes but no new features. Choosing it trades Enhanced’s current feature set for the separate Exiled Lands and Siptah server types. Every player must make the same branch choice, and the server’s mods must match that build.

Migration, characters, and mods
Moving from Legacy Siptah to Enhanced
Funcom publishes a migration FAQ for the Enhanced move. Hosting providers also describe transferring Legacy Siptah characters to the merged Enhanced world with a Server Transfer Tool, but that transfer workflow is not confirmed here by a Funcom page. Treat any host-specific transfer instructions as operational guidance: back up the Legacy save first, read the tool’s current limitations, and test with a copy before removing the original database.
Mod compatibility
Existing Legacy mods may not work on Enhanced. Host information says Legacy mods need to be re-cooked by their authors for Enhanced. Disable or update incompatible mods before changing builds, and keep a record of the load order so that a rollback does not introduce a different mod set.
Preserving the old world
Do not overwrite or rename the only copy of a map database while experimenting. Keep the original Saved folder untouched, place test copies in a separate directory, and restore the matching configuration and build when returning to that world.
