Galaxy AI does not have one universal language switch. Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, Transcript assist, Samsung Keyboard, Bixby, and the phone interface each use their own control. To change a translation language, open that feature and select its input or output language. To add downloadable languages, look for Settings > General management > Language packs (the menu appears only on supported software). To change the phone’s menus, use Settings > General management > Language.

The exact labels and language lists depend on your Galaxy model, One UI version, region, carrier, account status, and installed language packs. The language list shown inside the feature you are using is the authoritative list for that feature.

First, identify which language you want to change

There are three different settings that people often call the “Galaxy AI language.” They have different results:

Setting What it changes What it does not change
Galaxy AI feature language The source or target language used by one tool, such as Live Translate or Transcript assist. Other Galaxy AI tools, Bixby, or the phone’s menus.
Samsung Keyboard language Typing, predictive text, and keyboard voice-input languages. Live Translate, Interpreter, or Bixby language selections.
Phone display language System menus, buttons, and settings labels. The separate language selectors inside Galaxy AI features.
Bixby language Bixby’s recognition language and voice style. Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, and Transcript assist.

If a translation is wrong, change the source or target language inside the translation tool first. Changing the entire phone language is usually unnecessary.

Change Live Translate language for phone calls

Live Translate has separate language choices for you and the other participant. That lets each person speak a different language during a supported call.

Set languages in the Phone app

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Open its Live Translate settings. Depending on the software version, this may be under the call screen’s settings or the Phone app’s settings.
  3. Tap Language under Me and choose the language you will speak.
  4. Tap Language under Other person and choose the other participant’s language.
  5. If you want a different synthesized voice, open Voice. Voice selection is separate from language selection.

Samsung says you can change either language at any time by tapping Language under Me or Other person in Live Translate settings. The available choices can differ between those two lists.

Enable Live Translate in supported third-party apps

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Galaxy AI.
  3. Tap Call assist.
  4. Open Live translate in other apps and configure the languages offered there.
  5. During a call in a supported app, open Quick settings and tap Live translate if the feature is not already active.

Third-party-app support is conditional. A missing Live Translate control can mean that the app, phone model, region, or software version is not supported, rather than that the language setting is hidden.

Change languages in Interpreter

Interpreter is the face-to-face translation tool in Quick Panel. It uses two language slots, one for each side of the conversation.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Panel. Swipe down again if necessary to show all controls.
  2. Tap Interpreter. If it is not visible, edit Quick Panel buttons and add it when the control is available on your model.
  3. Tap the first language drop-down and select the language for one speaker.
  4. Tap the second drop-down and select the other speaker’s language.
  5. Speak into the microphone. Interpreter displays the translation and, when the selected mode supports it, speaks the result aloud.

Interpreter’s selections are independent of Live Translate’s Me and Other person settings. Set both pairs when you use both tools.

Set Chat Assist and message-translation languages

Chat Assist works inside a supported messaging app. Its writing-style and translation controls appear only when the app and text field are compatible.

  1. Open a supported messaging app and start composing a message.
  2. Tap the Galaxy AI stars icon.
  3. Choose a writing style or the translation control.
  4. Tap the language icon and select the input language and the output language.
  5. Review the result before sending; the tool changes the draft, not the recipient’s language settings.

The input language describes the text Chat Assist should interpret. The output language describes the translated draft. These are directional choices, so changing only one can produce an unexpected result.

Choose a language for Voice Recorder transcript translation

Transcript assist translates an existing recording transcript. It does not automatically change the language used to record every future file.

  1. Open Voice Recorder.
  2. Select a recording that has a transcript.
  3. Tap Transcript assist, shown with the Galaxy AI stars icon.
  4. Tap Translate.
  5. Choose a target language. If it is not listed, tap Add languages and download an available language.

The target-language list belongs to Transcript assist. A language downloaded for the keyboard or another feature may not automatically appear here.

Download and enable Samsung language packs

Some Galaxy AI features need a downloadable language pack. On supported devices, the central place to look is Settings > General management > Language packs.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Language packs if the option is present.
  4. Choose the language and tap the download or install control.
  5. Return to the Galaxy AI feature and select the newly available language.

If Language packs is not shown, the option may be integrated into an individual feature instead. For example, Transcript assist offers Add languages, and Samsung Keyboard offers downloads under its input-language manager. Menu availability varies by model, region, carrier, and One UI release.

Configure Samsung Keyboard typing and voice input

Add a keyboard language

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Samsung Keyboard settings.
  4. Tap Languages and types.
  5. Tap Manage input languages.
  6. Enable a downloaded language, or select a language under Available languages to download it.

Switching the keyboard language changes the keyboard’s suggestions and input behavior. It does not change the language pair in Live Translate or Interpreter.

Install an offline voice-input language

  1. Open the Samsung Keyboard settings described above.
  2. Open Voice input.
  3. Choose Samsung voice input when the selector is available.
  4. Install the required offline language pack.

Offline dictation requires the relevant pack on the phone. Without it, voice input may require a network connection or may offer fewer language choices.

Change Bixby’s language

Bixby has its own language and voice-style menu. Changing it will not necessarily change any other Galaxy AI feature.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Advanced features.
  3. Tap Bixby.
  4. Tap Language and voice style.
  5. Tap Language and choose the language.

This setting controls Bixby’s interaction language. Keep it separate from translation language choices when troubleshooting.

  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Language.
  4. If the language is not listed, tap the option to add a language and select it.
  5. Select the language and make it the default when prompted.

This changes the interface language. Galaxy AI tools can still show their own language selectors and may continue using their previous choices.

Why Galaxy AI may show the wrong language

You changed the phone language, not the feature language

The display-language menu controls system text. Reopen the specific Galaxy AI tool and change its source or target language there.

The source and target directions are reversed

Translation tools distinguish what one person says from what the other person should hear or read. In Live Translate, check both Me and Other person. In Chat Assist, check both input and output. In Interpreter, check both drop-down menus.

The language is not supported by that feature

Samsung reported 24 Galaxy AI languages in 2026 across expanding translation, transcription, and summarization experiences. That total does not mean every feature supports all 24. Use the list displayed inside the tool you are configuring.

The language pack is missing

Look for Settings > General management > Language packs, or use the feature’s own Add languages or Available languages control. Downloading a pack for one feature does not guarantee availability in another.

The phone or software is not eligible

Samsung’s current Galaxy AI support list includes the Galaxy S26 FE, S26 Ultra, S26+, S26, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25+, S25, S25 FE, S24 Ultra, S24+, S24, and S24 FE, along with multiple Z-series and A-series phones and supported tablets. The exact feature set differs by model. Some older models require a software update.

A regional, carrier, account, or network condition applies

Availability can vary by region, carrier, software version, and whether sign-in is required. A language menu can therefore be present on one otherwise similar phone and absent on another.

  1. Identify the tool. Decide whether the problem is in Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, Transcript assist, Keyboard, Bixby, or the phone interface.
  2. Open that tool’s own language selector. Do not assume the display-language setting controls it.
  3. Check both directions. Verify source/input and target/output languages, including the Me and Other person pair in Live Translate.
  4. Install pending software updates. Older Galaxy AI implementations may not expose newer language controls.
  5. Check for language packs. Review Settings > General management > Language packs, then check the feature’s own download menu.
  6. Confirm model and regional support. Compare your model with Samsung’s current Galaxy AI support information and remember that feature availability is not uniform.
  7. Check account and connectivity requirements. Some Galaxy AI functions require sign-in or network access, while others can process on the phone after the necessary pack is installed.
  8. Reopen the feature. Close the app or return to the home screen, then open it again after a language download or update.

A missing menu after these checks generally indicates a compatibility or availability limit, not an incorrect tap sequence.

On-device and cloud processing can affect language behavior

Samsung identifies translation among Galaxy AI functions that can run on the device. It identifies auto-formatting, auto-summarizing, auto-corrections, and image editing among functions that can use cloud processing. The exact behavior depends on the selected function and software version.

Where supported, Galaxy AI settings include Process data only on device. Turning that control on can limit cloud-based functions or change which features and languages are available. A language that works with an online feature may not be offered for an offline workflow, and an offline language pack does not make every Galaxy AI feature fully offline.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How language choices interact across features

Feature Where to set it Language direction or role
Live Translate Phone app Live Translate settings; for supported other apps, Settings > Galaxy AI > Call assist > Live translate in other apps. Separate language for Me and Other person; voice is separate.
Interpreter Quick Panel > Interpreter. Two speaker languages selected from drop-down menus.
Chat Assist Supported messaging app > Galaxy AI stars icon > translation control. Input and output languages.
Transcript assist Voice Recorder > recording > Transcript assist > Translate. Target language for the transcript translation.
Samsung Keyboard Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Languages and types > Manage input languages. Typing and keyboard voice-input language.
Bixby Settings > Advanced features > Bixby > Language and voice style > Language. Bixby recognition and response language.
Phone interface Settings > General management > Language. System display language.

What to expect from supported models and versions

Galaxy AI language controls are not identical across the current product range. Samsung’s 2026 support list covers the S26 family, S25 family, S24 family, several Z-series and A-series phones, and supported tablets. Exact support depends on the model, installed One UI version, region, carrier, and feature.

On an older supported phone, install every available software update before looking for a missing language menu. On a new phone, the same menu can still be absent if the feature has not been released for that region or carrier. The model name alone does not establish that every Galaxy AI language or function is available.

Privacy and connectivity choices

Before forcing a feature to use a different processing mode, decide whether language coverage or local processing is more important for that task. Translation may be identified as on-device, while summarization, formatting, corrections, and image editing may use cloud processing. The Process data only on device control, when present, applies according to Samsung’s implementation for that software build; it is not a promise that every Galaxy AI function has identical offline language support.

Quick decision guide

  • Only call translation is wrong: change Language under Me or Other person in Live Translate.
  • Face-to-face translation is wrong: open Quick Panel’s Interpreter and set both drop-down languages.
  • A message draft is translated incorrectly: use Chat Assist’s language icon and verify input and output.
  • A recording transcript needs another language: use Transcript assist’s Translate and Add languages.
  • Typing or dictation is wrong: manage languages in Samsung Keyboard settings and install an offline voice-input pack if needed.
  • Bixby responds in the wrong language: use Bixby’s own Language and voice style menu.
  • Menus are wrong: change the default under General management > Language.
  • A language option is missing everywhere: check updates, model and regional eligibility, language packs, sign-in, and network requirements.

The Bottom Line

Set the language inside the Galaxy AI feature you are actually using. Live Translate and Interpreter use separate speaker-language pairs; Chat Assist and Transcript assist use their own input or target controls; Keyboard, Bixby, and the phone interface are independent. If a language is missing, check the feature’s supported list, install updates and language packs, and account for model, region, One UI, carrier, and processing-mode limits.
