On a Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) or American Truck Simulator (ATS) dedicated multiplayer server, a moderator changes the world clock with the in-game chat command /set_time. The moderator must already have permission in server_config.sii, and must join the server and click Drive before sending the command.
The same permission model and chat-command workflow is reported for both games. The procedure below is for dedicated servers; it does not describe changing time in a single-player save or through an unverified server-console command.

Changing server time is an administrator task, not a normal player setting. Prepare these items before you attempt it:
- Access to the dedicated server’s files, or to the deployment settings if the server runs in a managed container.
- The moderator’s SteamID64.
- A way to stop and start the server.
- A moderator account that can join the server and reach the world by clicking Drive.
The command is sent through the game’s chat box after the moderator has loaded into the world. Being connected to the server lobby is not enough.

Give a player moderator rights in server_config.sii
For a conventional self-hosted ETS2 or ATS dedicated server, moderator permissions are controlled in server_config.sii. The file is generated automatically when the server is launched for the first time. The SCS Modding Wiki’s dedicated-server documentation shows moderators being listed with indexed entries such as moderator_list[0] and moderator_list[1].
- Stop the dedicated server. Do not edit the configuration while the process is running, because a shutdown or reload can overwrite your changes.
- Open
server_config.sii. It is in the server’s configuration directory. The exact filesystem location depends on how you installed and launch the server. - Find the moderator list. Use the existing indexed format, for example
moderator_list[0]. Add the moderator’s complete SteamID64 as another list entry. If several people need access, continue the index in the same style rather than replacing an existing moderator. - Save the file and start the server again. The server reads the list during startup.
- Have the moderator reconnect. Promotion occurs when the player joins. The documented server does not provide a user interface for promoting someone during an already-running session.
Preserve the syntax and quoting already used in your file. A Steam display name, profile URL, shortened Steam ID, or account nickname is not a substitute for the player’s SteamID64.
Set the ETS2 or ATS in-game time
Once the moderator has joined after the restart, use this sequence:

- Join the correct ETS2 or ATS dedicated server with the Steam account whose SteamID64 was added to the moderator list.
- Wait until the game has finished connecting and click Drive so the player is loaded into the world.
- Open the in-game chat box.
- Enter the command in the
HH:MMformat shown below, replacing the time with the value you want:
/set_time 18:30- Send the message. The server should apply the requested time for the multiplayer world if the account has moderator rights and the command is supported by that server build.
The example uses the documented command spelling and a time written with hours and minutes. Do not add a game name, quotation marks, or a console prefix to the chat command.
ETS2 and ATS: is the procedure different?
Community server documentation describes most of this workflow as shared between ETS2 and ATS. The important distinction is the game instance you join, not a different time-setting syntax.

The available material does not establish a separate ETS2-only or ATS-only time command. If one title accepts the command and the other does not on your installation, check the server build, permissions, and current SCS documentation before assuming the syntax differs.

Docker and container deployments
If your server runs in Docker, you may not edit the generated file directly. The community ETS2/ATS convoy-server container documents an environment option named ETS_SERVER_MODERATORS. It accepts Steam IDs and is intended to configure the same moderator capability, including changing server time.
- Stop the container or deployment.
- Open the environment-variable section used by your compose file, panel, or container launch configuration.
- Set
ETS_SERVER_MODERATORSusing the Steam ID format required by that container’s documentation. - Redeploy or restart the container so the setting is applied.
- Join with the listed Steam account, click Drive, and use the chat procedure described above.
The container option is a deployment-specific way to populate moderator access; it does not turn the command into a client-only setting. If the container generates server_config.sii, inspect the resulting configuration after restart to confirm that the moderator was registered.

/set_rain_factor <0 to 1>changes the rain factor using a value from zero through one./helpdisplays the commands available to the moderator in that server session.
Use /help to check what your current server build exposes. Availability can depend on the server implementation and version, so a command documented by a host guide should not be treated as proof that every older or newer build supports it.

The chat says the command is unknown
- Confirm that you entered it in the in-game chat box, not in a host panel or an operating-system shell.
- Check the leading slash, spelling, and the space between the command and the time.
- Make sure you clicked Drive and are actually in the world. The documented workflow sends the command after world loading.
- Use
/helpto see whether the running server exposes the command. - Check the server’s current documentation and version. The command is documented by the SCS Modding Wiki and community host guides, but the available references are not all current to the latest game release.
The player can join but is not treated as a moderator
- Verify that the value in the moderator list is the player’s SteamID64, not a display name or another identifier.
- Check the indexed entry in
server_config.siifor typographical errors and preserve the file’s existing syntax. - Confirm that the server was stopped before editing and restarted afterward.
- Have the player disconnect and reconnect after the restart. The documented promotion point is the join event, and there is no documented mid-session promotion control.
- For Docker, verify that
ETS_SERVER_MODERATORSwas set in the active deployment, then redeploy rather than only restarting a game client.
The command works for one account but not another
Compare the SteamID64 entries and the exact server instance each player joined. A common administrative mistake is editing one configuration while the panel or container launches a different copy. Check the active server’s configuration after startup and test with the account whose ID appears there.
The time value is rejected
Use the documented HH:MM pattern, such as 18:30, without extra punctuation or text. If a value in that format is still rejected, use /help and consult the current server documentation for your build; the available references do not specify additional range rules beyond the displayed format.

Chat command versus console command
The in-game moderator command and a server-console command are separate mechanisms. The SCS documentation has a different page for a console command named g_set_time, but the available material does not verify its behavior against the current ETS2 or ATS dedicated-server build. For that reason, the in-game moderator command is the verified procedure described here. Do not substitute a console command merely because it has a similar name.
Version and documentation caveats
Command support is the main uncertainty for operators running a newly updated server. The SCS Dedicated Server wiki has cached copies with differing details, and the page has appeared as roughly 1,000 days old in search indexing. A community host guide dated July 2026 describes most of its instructions as applying to both games, but no source available for this procedure confirms that the command is unchanged on every latest build.

That does not change the practical setup: configure a moderator, restart, load into the world, and test the chat command. It does mean you should test on the exact server version you operate before promising players a scheduled time change. Keep a backup of server_config.sii before changing moderator entries, and record which account was tested so a permission failure can be distinguished from a command-availability failure.
