Change a FiveM server’s banners by adding two sets convars to server.cfg, each pointing to a directly reachable image URL, then restarting the server. banner_detail controls the server-list banner; banner_connecting controls the image shown while players connect. A leading # disables either setting because it comments the line out.
What the two FiveM banner settings control
FiveM uses separate convars for the image shown in the server browser and the image displayed during connection. You can set either one independently, or configure both with different images.

The syntax is documented consistently in practical setup guides from Shockbyte, Nodecraft and ZAP-Hosting. The image URL must resolve to the image file itself, not to a web page containing the image.

Before you edit server.cfg
Prepare a direct image URL
Upload the artwork to an image host or your own web server and copy the direct URL. When you paste that URL into a browser, the browser should display the image immediately. A gallery, preview, sharing or HTML page URL is not a direct image link and may not load in FiveM.
Imgur is often used in community instructions, but a Cfx.re forum report describes Imgur being blocked for some users. If an Imgur link fails, move the file to another host that permits unauthenticated HTTPS image requests rather than changing the convar syntax. See the report in this Cfx.re forum thread.
Choose a practical canvas size
There is no confirmed official size requirement in the available Cfx.re documentation. The most frequently repeated recommendation is 1,865 × 108 pixels, attributed to an original cfx.re community guide and repeated by MeteoFiveM. Another guide uses 1,865 × 250 pixels, while a separate source says FiveM does not enforce a strict size. Treat 1,865 × 108 as a useful default for a wide, shallow banner, not as a validation rule. If your design needs more vertical space, test the result in both locations.
Check access before changing configuration
- Open the final URL in a private browser window to confirm it works without your account being logged in.
- Confirm the URL is complete, uses HTTPS where available, and contains no spaces or accidental quotation marks.
- Make sure the host allows external requests; a file that only works inside an upload dashboard will not work as a FiveM banner.
Step-by-step: add the banners in server.cfg
1. Open the server configuration
Locate the server.cfg file for the server instance you actually start. With a game-server control panel, this is normally a built-in file editor. If you use txAdmin, open its CFG Editor, as described in the ZAP-Hosting guide. Editing a different template or an unused backup will not change the running server.

2. Add or replace the two convars
Place these lines anywhere in the active configuration. Replace each placeholder with a direct image URL and keep the quotation marks:

sets banner_connecting "https://example.com/images/server-connecting.png"You can use the same URL for both settings if one image suits both placements. Use separate URLs when the server-list artwork and connecting-screen artwork need different proportions or messages.
Do not put a leading hash before either line. This is disabled:

# sets banner_detail "https://example.com/images/server-details.png"In a Cfx.re forum troubleshooting thread, removing that leading # fixed a banner that appeared not to work. The hash turns the entire line into a comment, so FiveM ignores it; the same rule applies to banner_connecting. The discussion is documented at Cfx.re’s “How to add server banner” thread.
3. Save the file
Save the edited configuration in the panel or editor. If the editor warns that the file changed since it was opened, reload it first and reapply the two lines so you do not overwrite a newer configuration.
4. Restart the FiveM server
Stop and start the server, or use the panel’s restart action. A running process does not reliably reread server.cfg after you save it. Guides from SparkedHost and Shockbyte both include a restart as the final step.
Verify each banner after the restart
Check the server-list banner
Find your server in the FiveM server list and open its details view. The image supplied to banner_detail should appear there. If the connecting image works but this one does not, troubleshoot the banner_detail line and its URL separately; the two convars are independent.
Check the connecting banner
Connect to the server from the FiveM client. The image supplied to banner_connecting should be visible during the connection stage. A successful details banner does not prove that the connecting URL is valid, because each setting is fetched separately.
Change one variable at a time
For a clean diagnosis, first use one known-working direct URL in both settings. After both locations display it, substitute your final artwork in one convar at a time. This separates configuration errors from image-hosting or artwork problems.

Troubleshooting a FiveM banner that does not appear
Neither banner appears
- Open
server.cfgand confirm the lines begin withsets, not# sets. - Check the spelling exactly:
banner_detailandbanner_connecting. - Verify that you edited the configuration used by the active server instance.
- Save the file and perform a full server restart.
- Paste each URL into a private browser window. If it does not show the image there, FiveM cannot retrieve it either.
The details banner works, but the connecting banner does not
Inspect only the banner_connecting line first. One published guide contains the typo banner*connection; that is not the FiveM convar. The valid name is banner_connecting, as noted in the ZAP-Hosting instructions. Also make sure the line is not commented out and that its URL is independently reachable.
The connecting banner works, but the details banner does not
Apply the same checks to banner_detail: active line, exact spelling, direct image URL, saved file and restart. Do not replace a working banner_connecting line while diagnosing the details image; changing unrelated settings makes the cause harder to identify.
The image URL opens a page instead of an image
Replace the link with the host’s direct-file URL. FiveM needs the image response itself. A share page that displays an image in a browser can still fail when requested by the game client.
The URL works for you but not for players
Test from a private window or a separate connection. Login-only files, expiring links, hotlink protection and host restrictions can make an image appear available to its owner while denying FiveM or other players. Move the file to a host that permits public direct requests.

You changed the file but still see the old image
Confirm that the server was restarted after the edit and that the URL in the active configuration is the new one. If you changed the artwork at the same URL, temporarily use a new filename or URL while testing so you can distinguish an unchanged configuration from an old copy of the file.

Use the 1,865 × 108 recommendation as a starting point
A 1,865 × 108-pixel canvas matches the commonly cited community recommendation and gives you a very wide aspect ratio suitable for a server-list strip. It is not an enforced FiveM specification. The evidence is mixed: one source cites 1,865 × 250, and another says no strict dimensions apply. Because no official Cfx.re source in the available material resolves the conflict, judge the final result by how it renders in your server list and connecting screen.

Keep important content away from the edges
Regardless of the canvas you choose, keep the server name, Discord address or other essential text in a central safe area. Very wide banners may be displayed in containers with different cropping or scaling, so edge-aligned text is more likely to be clipped than a centered mark or short title.
Use separate artwork when the placements have different goals
The details banner is encountered while browsing servers, while the connecting banner is seen after a player has already chosen yours. A concise identity-focused image can suit the list; a connecting image can instead communicate a loading message or community information. This is a design choice, not a requirement—both convars may point to the same file.

Delete the convar line or comment it intentionally with a leading #. Remember to remove the hash again when you want the setting active, then save and restart.
What is not established about FiveM banners
A sample server.cfg published on Scribd includes sv_projectName, but the available evidence does not establish that this setting controls banner behavior. Do not add or alter sv_projectName as a banner fix. The banner-specific settings are the two convars described above.
