You change Grey’s Anatomy’s language and caption settings from the playback controls, not the episode list. Start an episode, open the player’s Audio & Subtitles, Settings, or keyboard/settings menu, and choose the available track. Picture quality works differently by service: Hulu adjusts quality to bandwidth, Netflix uses profile data-use settings plus an automatic mode, and Disney+ generally lets the app, title, plan, device, and connection determine resolution.
Availability and language choices depend on your country, account, device, season, episode, and licensing. Hulu’s U.S. guide dated January 5, 2026 lists all 21 completed seasons on demand for subscribers; it also says new season 22 episodes stream the next day on Hulu and can be watched live with Hulu + Live TV, subject to regional restrictions, blackouts, and service terms.
Check where the episode is available
Streaming catalogs are regional. A service may carry Grey’s Anatomy in one country but not another, and a language track can disappear even when the episode itself is available. Hulu’s current U.S. guide is the clearest dated availability statement in the supplied service documentation: it lists all 21 complete seasons on demand with a Hulu subscription. New season 22 episodes are described as next-day Hulu releases, with live viewing available through Hulu + Live TV where regional restrictions, blackouts, and applicable terms permit.
Netflix and Disney+ language and playback menus apply only when the title is present in your catalog. If Grey’s Anatomy is missing, changing subtitle settings cannot make it appear; check the service’s catalog for your location and account.

What each service lets you control
| Service | Subtitle and audio controls | Quality behavior | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Choose an available audio track and subtitle or caption language from Audio & Subtitles during playback. | Set profile data use to Low, Medium, High, or Auto. Auto adapts to connection speed. | Language availability varies by location, profile language preferences, title, device, licensing, show agreements, season, and episode. Downloads show only the two most relevant languages. |
| Hulu | Open Settings, then select a language under Audio when an alternate track is offered. | Automatically adjusts quality to available bandwidth. | Alternate-language audio exists only for some shows and movies. Hulu says audio cannot be turned off. |
| Disney+ | Use the keyboard/settings icon during playback to change audio language, subtitles, or closed captions. | No universal manual resolution selector is documented for every device or title; quality depends on the current app, title, plan, device, and connection. | Options vary by country, region, and title. Last-used language settings typically carry to the next show or movie. Audio description is a separate descriptive track when available. |
Change subtitles and audio on Netflix
Use the playback menu
- Start the Grey’s Anatomy episode.
- On a phone, tablet, or computer, tap or click the picture to reveal the controls. On a TV-connected device, press the up or down button on the remote.
- Select Audio & Subtitles.
- Choose the audio language you want, then choose a subtitle or caption language. If you want captions without translated dialogue, leave audio on the original track and select the desired subtitle language.
- Close the menu and resume playback. The selection applies to the current viewing session and may become your preference for later playback.
Netflix’s player can show subtitles, captions, and audio languages only when those tracks are supplied for that title and supported on your device. A season or even an individual episode can have a different set of language sources, so check the menu on the episode that is actually playing.
Set Netflix’s picture-data preference
- Open Netflix in a browser.
- Go to Account > Profiles > Playback settings.
- Select the profile you use to watch Grey’s Anatomy.
- Choose Low, Medium, High, or Auto, then save the setting if Netflix presents a save button.
Netflix publishes these per-device data-use figures: Low uses up to 0.3 GB per hour; Medium uses 0.7 GB per hour; High uses up to 1 GB per hour for SD, up to 3 GB per hour for HD, or up to 7 GB per hour for UHD/4K. The exact result also depends on the title, device, plan, and connection. Auto is the safer choice when a fixed high setting causes buffering or freezes.
When Netflix does not show your language
Netflix identifies several possible causes: your location, profile language preferences, the title itself, device support, licensing, and show agreements. Downloads are restricted to the two most relevant languages, so a language visible during online playback may not appear for a downloaded episode. Try the language menu on another episode or season before assuming that the whole series lacks the track.

Change subtitles and audio on Hulu
Phone or tablet
- Start the episode.
- Tap the Settings icon in the player.
- Under Audio, choose a language if Hulu offers one.
- Use the subtitle or caption control in the same player menu when available, then return to playback.
TV-connected device
- Start the episode.
- Press up, or swipe down on the remote, to open the playback controls.
- Open Settings.
- Under Audio, select the offered language and apply the caption choice shown by your device.
Hulu.com in a browser
- Play the episode on Hulu.com.
- Click Settings in the player.
- Choose a language under Audio when an alternate track is listed.
Hulu does not provide an alternate audio track for every program, and its help guidance says audio cannot be turned off. If the Audio menu contains only one choice, the episode does not expose another selectable language on that device and account.
Change subtitles and audio on Disney+
- Start the Grey’s Anatomy episode.
- Select the keyboard/settings icon in the player.
- Choose the preferred audio language.
- Choose subtitles or closed captions, and select the language or caption option offered.
- Close the panel and continue watching.
Disney+ says the available choices vary by country, region, and title. It also says the last-used settings typically carry to the next show or movie. If the device offers an accessibility panel for caption appearance, use that panel to change visual formatting. Audio description is a separate descriptive audio track and appears only when supplied for the title and region.
If a subtitle or audio language is missing
- Check the episode itself. Language sources can differ between seasons and episodes, particularly on Netflix.
- Check your region. Disney+ and Netflix both tie language availability to country or location, while Hulu also limits alternate audio to selected titles.
- Check the device. Netflix lists device support as one reason a language may not appear. A language visible on a computer may not be exposed by a particular TV app or download.
- Check profile preferences. On Netflix, profile language preferences influence which tracks are surfaced.
- Check whether you downloaded the episode. Netflix downloads show only the two most relevant languages.
- Distinguish captions from subtitles. Captions may include dialogue and sound cues, while a subtitle track may provide translated dialogue only. The exact labels depend on the service and title.
Improve picture quality on Hulu
Hulu states that quality automatically adjusts to available bandwidth so playback can use the best picture quality possible under current network conditions. You generally do not force a permanent resolution from the player; instead, provide a stable connection and let the adaptive system select a stream.

- 4K streaming made simple:With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.

Hulu’s published minimum bitrate guidance is:
| Target stream | Published minimum bitrate |
|---|---|
| SD | 1.5 Mbps |
| 720p HD | 3 Mbps |
| 1080p HD | 6 Mbps |
| 4K Ultra HD | 16 Mbps |
These are Hulu’s published guidance figures, not a guarantee that every Grey’s Anatomy episode, account, or device will offer that resolution. Hulu says available options vary by content and device. Hulu.com streams up to 720p depending on device configuration and HDCP compliance, so a browser session may not reach the same maximum as a supported TV or streaming device.

What to do when Hulu looks blurry
- Allow the episode to play for a moment so Hulu can adapt to the available bandwidth.
- Check that the device and display path support the quality you expect. Hulu’s browser limit and HDCP requirement can be decisive even when your internet connection is fast enough.
- If the picture repeatedly drops to a lower quality, compare your connection with Hulu’s published threshold for the target stream: 3 Mbps for 720p, 6 Mbps for 1080p, or 16 Mbps for 4K.
- When other devices are consuming the connection, pause those transfers or use a more stable network path, then resume playback so adaptive quality can reassess.
Improve picture quality on Netflix
Netflix gives you a profile-level data-use choice rather than a resolution button in the episode player. The settings affect how much data Netflix may use on each device:
| Netflix setting | Published data use per device |
|---|---|
| Low | Up to 0.3 GB per hour |
| Medium | 0.7 GB per hour |
| High, SD | Up to 1 GB per hour |
| High, HD | Up to 3 GB per hour |
| High, UHD/4K | Up to 7 GB per hour |
| Auto | Adjusts to connection speed |
Netflix recommends stable speeds of 3 Mbps for 720p HD, 5 Mbps for 1080p Full HD, and 15 Mbps for 4K UHD. These figures describe the connection Netflix says is appropriate for each target; the title, plan, device, and network stability still determine what you see.

- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Choose between High and Auto
- Use High when you have enough stable bandwidth and want Netflix to use more data for higher-quality streams.
- Use Auto when playback buffers, freezes, or your connection changes during the episode. Netflix specifically advises returning to Auto if a fixed setting causes those problems.
- Use Low or Medium when data consumption matters more than maximum detail, such as on a metered mobile connection.
Picture quality on Disney+
The cited Disney+ player documentation explains language and accessibility controls but does not publish a universal manual resolution selector that works on every device and title. Disney+ quality therefore depends on the current app, the Grey’s Anatomy title or episode, your plan, the playback device, and the connection. Check the player and device settings available in your version of the app rather than looking for one universal resolution menu.
If the picture is soft, first determine whether the softness is constant or changes during playback. A constant limit points toward the title, plan, device, or display path; quality that rises and falls points toward connection conditions or adaptive streaming. Disney+’s documented language menu cannot override those limits.
Fix blurry, pixelated, or buffering playback
Separate a language problem from a quality problem
Subtitles and audio are track-selection issues. Blurry video is a delivery or capability issue. Changing from English to Spanish, or turning captions on, does not increase resolution. Conversely, a sharp picture does not mean a translated audio track exists.

Use this diagnosis order
- Confirm the title and episode. Open the player controls while the episode is running, not from the season or episode list.
- Check the available tracks. If the required language is absent, use the service-specific causes above before changing picture settings.
- Check the service’s quality model. Hulu adapts automatically; Netflix uses profile data settings; Disney+ has no universal manual selector documented for all devices.
- Compare your connection with the provider’s guidance. For Hulu, use the 1.5, 3, 6, and 16 Mbps thresholds for SD, 720p, 1080p, and 4K. For Netflix, use 3, 5, and 15 Mbps as the published targets for 720p, 1080p, and 4K.
- Reduce the fixed demand if playback fails. On Netflix, switch from High to Auto when buffering or freezing follows a fixed setting. On Hulu, allow its adaptive system to respond to available bandwidth.
- Check device limits. Hulu.com may stream only up to 720p depending on device configuration and HDCP compliance. Netflix also identifies device support as a factor in language availability.
- Reopen the player menu. A setting changed on one device may not be exposed identically on another, and Disney+ options vary by title and region.
Make captions easier to read
Netflix and Disney+ expose subtitle or caption controls in the playback player. Disney+ says caption visual formatting can be changed through device settings, so font, size, color, background, or contrast controls may live outside the Disney+ player on your hardware. The exact path depends on the operating system or television. Audio description, where offered, is separate from captions and is selected as an audio track.
When captions are too small or difficult to distinguish from the scene, look first in the device’s accessibility settings, then return to the player to confirm that the desired caption track remains selected. Do not confuse a caption-style change with a new translation: appearance settings alter presentation, not language content.
Quick Recap
A practical setup for common viewing situations
Watching in English with captions
- Start the episode.
- Open the service’s playback language menu.
- Keep the original English audio track and select English subtitles or captions.
- Adjust caption appearance through the device accessibility settings if the text is hard to read.
Watching with Spanish audio
- Open Audio & Subtitles on Netflix, Settings > Audio on Hulu, or the keyboard/settings icon on Disney+.
- Select Spanish only if it appears in the current episode’s audio list.
- If Spanish is missing, check another episode and confirm your region, profile, device, and whether you are watching a download.
Watching on a limited or unstable connection
- On Netflix, open Account > Profiles > Playback settings and choose Auto, Low, or Medium according to your data and stability needs.
- On Hulu, rely on adaptive quality and compare the connection with the target stream’s published bitrate threshold.
- On Disney+, use the available device and app settings; there is no documented universal manual resolution control for every title and device.
Key takeaways by service
- Netflix: Open Audio & Subtitles during playback. Use profile playback settings to manage data use, and choose Auto if a fixed quality setting buffers.
- Hulu: Open Settings during playback and look under Audio. Quality is adaptive, with published minimum bitrate guidance from 1.5 Mbps for SD to 16 Mbps for 4K.
- Disney+: Open the keyboard/settings icon. Language choices, caption formatting, and audio description depend on the title, region, device, and available accessibility controls.
