Godlike.Host offers hosted Unturned servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To change the buttons players see in your Unturned server lobby, stop the server, open its server-specific Config.json, edit the Browser section’s Links array, save valid JSON, and start the server again. Each button consists of a Message label and a Url destination. These are lobby links; they do not create a permanent server address. For an address that remains discoverable after an IP or port change, configure BookmarkHost together with a GSLT instead.
What Unturned server links actually control
The Browser.Links setting adds clickable destinations to the server’s lobby or details view. A player can select a button such as Website, Discord, Rules or Support and be taken to the URL you specify. The destination is external to the game server, so it must be complete and publicly reachable by the player’s browser.
A lobby button is not the same thing as a connection address. Editing Links does not reserve an IP, redirect players after a port change, or create a persistent bookmark. Those discovery requirements use BookmarkHost and a login token, covered later in this guide.
Prepare the server before editing
Stop the server cleanly
Shut down the Unturned server before changing its configuration. The official setup guidance notes that most settings cannot be configured while the server is open. Editing a file while the process is running can also leave your changes overwritten when the server saves its current state.

Back up the current configuration
Make a copy of the existing Config.json before touching it. Keep the copy outside the file’s working folder and give it a recognizable name, such as Config.json.backup. If the server will not start after an edit, restoring this copy is faster than reconstructing the entire file.
Use an editor that preserves plain text
Use the text editor supplied by your hosting panel or a plain-text editor on the machine that runs the server. Do not use a word processor that adds formatting or smart quotation marks. JSON requires ordinary double quotation marks, braces, brackets and commas.
Find the correct Config.json
Unturned stores saved data and configuration under the U3DS/Servers/ directory, with a separate folder for each server. On a simple installation the default server folder is ...\U3DS\Servers\Default\. If you named the server differently, replace Default with that folder name.
Open the server-specific configuration area and locate Config.json. The relevant setting is in the Server Configuration file, not in Commands.dat. If several servers run on the same machine, verify the folder name before editing; changing another server’s file will not affect the instance you intend to update.
Using a hosted control panel
Panel labels vary, but the safe sequence is consistent. Stop the instance, open Configuration Files (or the panel’s equivalent), select the text editor beside Config.json, make the change, save it, and start the server. This stop–edit–save–start workflow is also the sequence described in hosting documentation for Unturned.

Edit the Browser.Links array
Inside Config.json, find the Browser object and then its Links array. Every entry has two string properties:

A minimal configuration can look like this:
{"Links": [{"Message": "Community website", "Url": "https://example.com/"}, {"Message": "Discord", "Url": "https://discord.gg/example"}]}Keep the array inside the surrounding Browser object in your existing file. The example shows only the portion that changes; do not delete unrelated browser settings.
Add a link
- Place the cursor after the opening bracket of
Links, or after the final existing object. - Insert an object with a
Messageand aUrlstring. - Put a comma between this object and the next object, but not after the final object in the array.
- Save the file without changing the surrounding braces or brackets.
For example, a rules button can be added as another object:

To rename a button, edit only its Message value. To change where it goes, edit only Url. To remove a button, delete its complete object, including the comma that separates it from the next object. Leave the array as [] if you want no lobby links.
Choose labels and URLs players can use
Use short labels that explain the destination at a glance: Website, Discord, Rules or Support. Enter the full URL, including https:// where applicable. Check that the page is available without private authentication if ordinary players are expected to reach it. A link can be syntactically correct yet useless if the destination is restricted, mistyped or no longer online.

Validate JSON before restarting
JSON is unforgiving. One missing quotation mark, brace or comma can make the configuration invalid. Before starting the server, check these points:
- Every property name and string value is enclosed in straight double quotes.
- Each link object is enclosed in braces, and the complete collection is enclosed in square brackets.
- Objects are separated by commas; the final object is not followed by a trailing comma.
- The
Browserobject and the rest ofConfig.jsonstill have matching opening and closing braces. - URLs contain no unescaped quotation marks or accidental line breaks.
If your editor has JSON validation, use it before saving. A malformed file can cause the server to reject the configuration or reset it. If the server fails to start after an edit, stop it, restore the backup, start it to confirm recovery, and then make a smaller corrected change.
Start the server and verify each button
- Save
Config.jsonafter validation. - Start the Unturned server and wait until it has finished loading.
- Open the server in the Unturned lobby or details screen.
- Confirm that each intended label appears once and that obsolete labels are gone.
- Select every button and verify that it reaches the intended destination.
Clicking the links is an operator check you perform after the restart. It catches errors that JSON validation cannot, such as a valid URL pointing to the wrong page, an expired invitation or a site that blocks public visitors.
Why a lobby link does not keep your server address stable
There are two separate jobs that are often called “server links”:

If your only goal is adding a Discord or website button, edit Links and stop there. If players report that a saved server entry breaks whenever your public IP changes, changing Links will not solve that problem; configure the bookmark mechanism instead.

Configure BookmarkHost for persistent discovery
Official Bookmark Host documentation describes two ways to provide the current address. Both require the server’s BookmarkHost property and a login token.
DNS A-record method
Create a DNS A record whose hostname points to the server’s public IP, then use that hostname for BookmarkHost. When the IP changes, update the DNS record. This approach can tolerate an IP change, but it retains the current port; it does not automatically choose a new port.
HTTP or HTTPS endpoint method
Alternatively, point BookmarkHost to an HTTP or HTTPS endpoint that returns a plain-text address. The response should be a value such as myunturnedserver.example.com:27015. Because the response includes both host and port, this method can handle changes to either value as long as the endpoint is updated.
Fake-IP server limitation
The DNS approach is not applicable to fake-IP servers whose IP and port are reassigned after each restart. In that situation, a fixed DNS record cannot represent the newly assigned endpoint. Use the supported HTTP-style resolution approach if it fits your hosting arrangement, and follow the official Bookmark Host requirements for the server type.

The official server documentation says a server without a GSLT is treated as anonymous and hidden from the Internet server list. A GSLT also keeps Server Codes linked between sessions and can transfer saved address details when server details change. That transfer is expected to take approximately 24 hours, so an address change may not appear everywhere immediately.

Set the token in the Browser Login_Token property or supply it with the GSLT startup command, according to your deployment method. Never place the token in a public lobby link, website, Discord message or screenshot. Anyone who obtains a secret token can misuse it, and replacing a leaked token is safer than continuing to expose it.

BookmarkHost tells the bookmark system how to resolve the current address; the GSLT authenticates the server for the supported listing and bookmark behavior. Configuring only a DNS name or HTTP endpoint without the required token does not provide the complete persistent-discovery setup. Conversely, adding a GSLT does not turn a normal lobby Url into a game-server address.
Troubleshoot common failures
The new button does not appear
- Confirm that the server was stopped before editing and restarted after saving.
- Verify that you edited the active server’s folder, not another server’s
Config.json. - Check that
Linksis inside theBrowserobject and is spelled with the expected capitalization. - Look for invalid JSON, especially a missing comma or an extra trailing comma.
- Check whether the hosting panel restored an older copy when the server started.
The server will not start after the edit
Restore the backup you made before editing and start the server. If it starts normally, compare the backup and edited files one change at a time. The usual causes are unmatched braces or brackets, smart quotation marks, a missing comma, or a URL containing an unescaped quote. Do not keep repeatedly starting a server with a file you know is malformed, because a panel may overwrite or reset configuration while attempting recovery.
The button appears but opens the wrong place
Read the exact Url value in the file and open it in a normal browser. Correct the protocol, hostname, path and invitation code as needed. A valid URL can still lead to a deleted page, a private Discord invitation or a different community than the label suggests.
Players still cannot find the server after an IP change
That symptom concerns discovery rather than lobby buttons. Check the BookmarkHost configuration, confirm that the DNS record or HTTP response exposes the current address, and verify that a GSLT is configured and kept secret. If you rely on GSLT-backed saved address transfer, allow approximately 24 hours for the documented transfer behavior.

Recommended operating checklist
- Identify the correct server folder under
U3DS/Servers/. - Stop the server cleanly.
- Back up the current
Config.json. - Edit only the
Browser.Linksentries for lobby buttons. - Use concise
Messagelabels and complete, publicUrlvalues. - Validate JSON and preserve commas, braces, brackets and quotation marks.
- Save, start the server and inspect the lobby.
- Click every button to confirm its destination.
- For a persistent join address, configure
BookmarkHostand a GSLT separately. - Keep the GSLT out of public text and out of screenshots.
Choosing the right solution
Use Browser.Links when the desired result is an obvious lobby call-to-action: a community site, Discord server, rules page or support channel. It is a small, manual configuration change and works independently of the server’s connection identity.
Use BookmarkHost with a GSLT when the problem is changing IPs, changing ports or keeping a server discoverable between sessions. DNS is simpler when only the IP changes and the port remains stable. An HTTP or HTTPS resolver is more flexible when both host and port may change. Fake-IP deployments require special care because their endpoint can be reassigned after every restart.
Keeping these mechanisms separate prevents the most common configuration mistake: repeatedly changing a lobby URL while expecting it to repair a broken bookmark. Edit the array for external buttons; configure BookmarkHost and the authenticated listing setup for durable server discovery.
