Most Netflix changes start in a web browser. Open your Netflix Account page for the primary email address, password, phone number, plan, billing, privacy choices, and account information. Use Manage Profiles for a profile’s name, language, playback preferences, contact details, maturity settings, viewing activity, and recommendations.
The distinction matters: an account-wide change affects sign-in or billing for the whole subscription, while a profile change affects one viewer. Netflix may ask you to verify your identity, and menu names and available options can vary by country, account type, profile, and device.
Account settings and profile settings are different
Before changing anything, decide whether you are changing the subscription or only one viewer’s experience. This prevents a common mistake: editing a profile when you meant to change the account login, or changing the account when you only wanted to stop recommendations on one profile.

Netflix says a standard account can have up to five profiles. An Extra member account has one profile and cannot add more. Kids profiles have fewer available features than regular profiles.

Check which profile and account you are using
Look at the profile name or avatar before opening settings. The profile currently active in the app or browser determines which recommendations, viewing activity, maturity controls, and profile contact details you see. The account owner can manage every profile, but a profile user generally cannot edit another viewer’s profile. If you are managing an Extra member account, expect a single profile rather than the five-profile structure available on a standard account.
Why a browser is often the safest starting point
TV apps and streaming devices expose only a subset of account controls. Use a browser for credentials, plan and billing work, data requests, maturity ratings, and Kids-profile title blocking. The app is convenient for ordinary profile edits, but its labels and available controls can differ from the web version. Always follow the labels currently displayed in your account instead of looking for an identical menu on every device.
How do I change my Netflix account email, password, or phone?
Use a browser rather than a TV or streaming device for account credentials. Netflix’s account-information instructions are at Accessing and updating information associated with your account.

- Sign in at Netflix in a browser and open Account.
- Choose the option for changing the email address, following the current label shown for your country and account.
- Enter the new address and complete any identity check Netflix presents.
- Save the change, then use the new address the next time you sign in if Netflix asks you to do so.
The primary email must be between 4 and 50 characters and cannot already be assigned to another Netflix account. If a Kids profile is active, switch to a different profile before changing the primary email. Netflix may require confirmation through the existing account credentials, a code, or another identity check.
Changing this address changes the account’s main sign-in contact; it does not automatically turn every profile’s contact email into the same address. Review the individual profile entries separately if different viewers have their own contact details.
Change the password
- From Account, open the password-change option.
- Enter the current password and the new password where requested.
- Save it and follow any sign-out or reauthentication prompt.
Netflix recommends a unique password of at least eight characters that combines uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid names, birthdays, common words, or other personal information. This is Netflix’s recommendation, not a guarantee of password strength. Exit a Kids profile before changing the primary password.
If you are unsure whether another person has access, change the password from the Account page and then review recent device activity. Do not give a verification code to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

Change the mobile phone number
- Open the phone-number section from Account.
- Enter the new number and save it.
- Enter the verification code Netflix sends by text message.
Phone-number changes require SMS verification. A verified phone number can belong to only one Netflix account at a time, so remove it from another account first if Netflix reports that it is already in use.
Primary email versus a profile contact email
The primary email controls the Netflix account. A contact email attached to a secondary profile is separate and may be used for profile-related communication or data requests. To edit it, open Account > Profiles, select the profile, and edit its name or contact information. The account owner can edit any profile; an individual profile user can update their own information but not another profile’s. Secondary-profile email and phone features may not be available for every account or profile.
That distinction also matters for privacy requests. The account owner can request account data, while a profile user who added an email can request their own information by contacting Netflix. The account owner is notified of that request.

How do I change Netflix profile settings?
Profile edits preserve the profile and its history. Use a browser for the fullest set of controls, especially parental settings.
In a browser
- Open Manage Profiles, or go to Account > Profiles.
- Select the profile you want to change.
- Edit the available fields, such as name, profile image, language, playback preferences, notifications, or contact information.
- Save the changes. If Netflix asks for confirmation, enter your account password or the code sent to the primary account email or phone.
In the Netflix app
- Open My Netflix.
- Tap the profile name.
- Tap Manage Profiles.
- Choose a profile and edit the settings Netflix shows.
Labels and available settings vary by app version, country, account type, and profile. If an option is missing in the app, use the browser Account page.
What profile settings can you personalize?
Depending on the profile, you may be able to change the display name and image, language, playback preferences, notification choices, maturity settings, contact information, and profile lock. Netflix also keeps recommendations, My List, ratings, and viewing activity separately for each profile. A Kids profile may not expose all of these fields.
Switch profiles
Use the profile selector in the app or website, then choose the viewer’s profile. Switching profiles keeps each viewer’s recommendations, My List, ratings, playback preferences, and activity separate.
Delete a profile
- Open Manage Profiles.
- Select the profile to remove.
- Choose Delete Profile and confirm.
The main account profile cannot be deleted. To delete another profile, either that profile or the main profile must be active. Deletion removes the profile’s viewing history and game saves, so it is not a reversible way to hide a profile. Edit the profile instead if you need to preserve its history. If you are trying to remove a single embarrassing title, use the viewing-activity controls rather than deleting the entire profile.

How do I change parental controls or block a show on Netflix?
Netflix separates profile lock from maturity and viewing restrictions. A profile lock controls who can enter a profile; a maturity limit controls which content that profile can watch. Blocking a title adds an individual exception.
Set a maturity rating
- Open Account in a browser.
- Under Profiles, select the relevant profile.
- Open the parental-control or viewing-restriction setting.
- Complete Netflix’s identity verification.
- Choose the permitted maturity level and save.
A profile with a maturity level set will show only content rated at or below that level, according to Netflix’s profile maturity-rating and title-blocking instructions. Maturity ratings cannot be changed on a TV or streaming device. The mobile app supports some controls, but maturity settings for Kids profiles require a browser.
Because ratings can differ by country, choose the level Netflix displays for your location rather than assuming a rating has the same meaning everywhere. A restriction applies to the selected profile, not automatically to every profile on the account.
Block a specific title
- In the same browser parental-control area, select the profile.
- Open the title-blocking control.
- Search for the movie or series, select it, and save.
Title blocking for Kids profiles must be done in a browser. Netflix may require you to refresh the device, sign out and back in, or restart playback before a new restriction appears.
Use a profile lock PIN
Profile lock is separate from maturity controls. It requires a PIN to open the profile but does not change the titles available inside it. Use both when you need to prevent profile switching and restrict content. A lock alone is not a substitute for a maturity rating, because anyone who enters that profile could still see its full catalog.

How do I change Netflix privacy, notification, and advertising settings?
The Account page is the central place for profile notifications and privacy or data preferences. Open Account, then review the privacy, communication, and profile sections using the labels currently shown for your account.
Personalized or behavioral advertising
For eligible profiles, Netflix may provide a setting for behavioral-advertising preferences. Eligibility and available controls vary by account and profile. Netflix states that it does not engage in behavioral advertising for Kids profiles. If the control is absent, that does not necessarily indicate an error; it may not be available for that profile, country, or account type.
Do not assume that one advertising preference stops every Netflix email or notification. Advertising choices, service messages, and profile notifications can be separate controls, so review each relevant section.
Communications and notifications
Profile-level notification settings can control certain emails or messages. Account-level communication choices may include matched-identifier communications on third-party services. Change only the profile or account setting that matches the communication you want to stop.
Netflix’s Privacy and Security Help Page links to separate instructions for hiding titles from viewing history, securing the account, data deletion and retention, account deletion, and stopping certain uses of personal information. Those procedures can have regional or account-specific conditions, so follow the current linked instructions rather than assuming one switch controls all data uses.
How do I see or delete Netflix viewing history?
Viewing activity is managed per profile and is easiest to access in a browser.
- Open Account.
- Under Profiles, select the profile.
- Choose Viewing activity.
- Use Show More to reveal additional entries in the on-page list.
- Use Download all to export the activity as a CSV file.
Netflix’s activity page also provides options for hiding individual titles from the viewing history. Hiding an item can affect recommendations and the Continue Watching row, and Netflix may take time to apply the change across devices. Use the privacy instructions linked from the Privacy and Security Help Page for the current procedure.
Because activity is profile-specific, select the correct profile before exporting or hiding anything. Downloading one profile’s CSV does not create a combined history for every viewer.
How do I check recent devices using my Netflix account?
Open Account and choose the recent device or streaming activity option. Netflix’s account-information guidance says account holders can see device information for devices active during the previous 90 days. Review the device type, approximate location, and recent activity for anything you do not recognize.
- Sign out of unfamiliar devices or use Netflix’s account-security controls if the page offers that action.
- Change the password if you suspect someone else has access.
- Verify that the primary email and phone number still belong to you.
- Remember that location and device details can be approximate, especially on mobile networks or shared connections.

How do I download the information Netflix has about me?
An account owner can request a copy of account data through Netflix’s data-request process. Start from Netflix’s information and data-copy guidance, verify the request as instructed, and wait for fulfillment. Netflix says delivery may take up to 30 days after it verifies the request.

Use an email address you can access during the verification process. A request is not an instant download, and the 30-day period begins after Netflix verifies the request rather than necessarily when you first submit a form.
How do I change my Netflix plan?
Plan changes are made from the browser Change Plan page. Open Account, choose the plan option, select the new plan, and confirm.

If a browser change appears to save but reverts, Netflix recommends clearing the Netflix cookie, restarting the browser, and checking browser extensions. Clearing the cookie signs you out, so confirm that you know your sign-in method before doing it.
- Record the email or phone number you use to sign in and make sure you can access it.
- Temporarily disable extensions that block scripts, cookies, or pop-ups, then retry.
- Clear the Netflix cookie and restart the browser.
- Sign in again and repeat the change from Account or Manage Profiles.
- If the option is still missing, try another supported browser or the Netflix app for ordinary profile edits.
If a control is missing rather than failing to save, first check whether you are on a Kids profile, an Extra member account, or a partner-billed subscription. Those account types can legitimately expose fewer options. Also confirm that you completed any identity check; an unverified change may not be applied.

Quick checks before you finish
- Use a browser for primary email, password, phone, plan, data requests, maturity ratings, and Kids-profile title blocking.
- Confirm whether you changed the account or only the intended profile.
- Complete identity verification when Netflix requests it; do not share verification codes.
- After changing a phone number, enter the SMS code so the number is verified.
- Refresh devices or sign out and back in after parental-control changes.
- Check the next billing date after a plan change, especially after an upgrade.
- Keep in mind that deleting a profile permanently removes its viewing history and game saves.
- Review the primary email and phone after security-related changes so recovery details remain current.
- Allow time for hidden titles, recommendations, and device lists to update across all devices.
