To change loot quantity on a DayZ server, edit the types.xml file in the mission’s db directory, change the item’s nominal and min values together, optionally adjust lifetime, save the file, and restart the server. The Central Economy (CE) then works toward the new target; the map will not necessarily fill immediately.
The important relationship is simple: nominal is the target number of an item across the map, while min is the threshold that tells CE to queue restocking. Increasing only nominal is the most common reason an apparently correct edit produces little visible change.

The file you need is db/types.xml inside the mission folder used by your server. For a vanilla Chernarus mission, one documented example is mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/db/types.xml. Your server may use a different mission folder for another map or a custom mission, so identify the active mission directory before editing.
economy.xml identifies the economy files used by the mission, including types.xml and events.xml. If you are unsure which mission is active, check the mission path configured by your host and then follow that path to db/types.xml; editing a similarly named file in an unused mission will have no effect.

How the Central Economy uses nominal and min
nominal is the map-wide target
The nominal value is the target count for that item across the map, not a guaranteed number in every town, building, or loot location. When you raise it, you are telling CE that a larger total stock should exist in the economy.
min starts the restock decision
The min value is the trigger threshold. When the current count falls below min, CE queues restocking toward nominal. The threshold should remain below the target; otherwise the economy has no useful gap to work toward.
Why changing only nominal fails
If you raise nominal but leave the old min value, CE can continue waiting until the total count drops below that old threshold. The server may be capable of holding more of the item without being prompted to create the additional stock. A hosting guide describes keeping min near two-thirds of nominal as a community rule of thumb, not an official Bohemia Interactive requirement. Treat it as a starting point and tune it for your server’s population and restart schedule.

How to increase loot DayZ server: the safe procedure
- Stop or prepare to restart the server. A running process can overwrite a file while you are editing it. Use your host’s normal stop or restart control rather than editing while the server is actively writing configuration data.
- Back up the active file. Copy
types.xmlto a dated backup before changing values. Keep the original so you can restore a known-good economy if the server fails to start or loot behavior becomes unsuitable. - Open the active mission’s file. Navigate to the mission folder, then
db/types.xml. Do not assume the Chernarus path applies to Livonia, Sakhal, a modded map, or a custom mission. - Find the item entry. Search for the exact class name in the
<type name='...'>entry. Class names are case-sensitive in practice; copy the name already present in the file instead of creating a second spelling. - Change
nominalandmintogether. Set a higher target and a lower trigger threshold. Preserve the existing XML structure and keepminbelownominal. The two values control different stages of the same restock process, so changing one without the other often gives confusing results. - Decide whether persistence should change. Adjust
lifetimeonly if untouched items should remain on the ground for a different period. A value such as10800represents three hours in the example documented by XGamingServer; it is a duration in seconds. - Save the file as XML text. Do not change the filename or extension, and do not leave a second copy such as
types.xml.txt. Keep quotation marks, closing tags, and the surrounding entry intact. - Restart the server. The guides describing this method all require a restart for the economy configuration to be loaded. After startup, allow time for CE to work; the economy fills progressively rather than creating the entire new target in one instant.
- Observe more than one loot cycle. Check the item in several locations and at different times. A single building visit cannot establish the map-wide count, and a recently restarted server may still be converging on the new target.

Choosing values for an increase or decrease
For more of an item
Raise nominal and raise min at the same time, while preserving a clear gap between them. The two-thirds relationship sometimes recommended by community guides is not an official constant; it is simply a practical starting ratio. If players consume the item quickly, a higher threshold can cause CE to begin replenishing sooner. If the threshold is too close to the target, the economy may spend more of its cycles trying to maintain that stock.
For less of an item
Lower nominal and lower min together. Lowering only the target can leave the trigger at an old, higher value and produce behavior that is difficult to predict. The item may also take time to settle because existing objects have not vanished merely because the target was reduced.
For longer-lasting ground loot
Change lifetime rather than increasing the target when the real problem is cleanup. A larger target creates more stock over the map; it does not necessarily keep a particular dropped object on the ground longer. Conversely, a very long lifetime can leave abandoned objects occupying economy slots and make fresh loot appear less often.

DayZ loot not respawning: a diagnostic sequence
1. Confirm that the edited file is active
Verify the mission folder configured for the running server and confirm that its economy.xml references the expected economy files. An edit in an unused mission directory is indistinguishable from a configuration that was ignored.
2. Check the pair of thresholds
Read the item’s current nominal and min values after saving. If nominal was raised but min stayed at its old value, the count may not be below the trigger, so CE has no reason to queue the new stock yet.
3. Allow for gradual filling
Restarting loads the settings; it does not promise an instant map-wide refill. Check again after multiple economy cycles and in more than one area. The documented behavior is gradual replenishment.

4. Investigate classification values
Compare the item’s category, usage, tag, and value names with the definitions in cfglimitsdefinition.xml or cfglimitsdefinitionuser.xml. A name that is not defined there can prevent the intended classification or placement. Do not invent new names in types.xml without a matching definition.

Published explanations disagree about zero. XGamingServer describes spawning when the count falls below min; another field reference describes the next CE cycle; an older forum explanation describes bulk behavior at zero and per-item waits for positive values. Because no confirmed official schema explanation is available, change one item on a test server, record the time and count, and compare zero with a small positive delay before applying a policy to the whole economy.
6. Separate quantity from persistence
If an item appears and then disappears, inspect lifetime before raising nominal. If it never returns after being taken, inspect the thresholds and restock behavior. These are different failure modes and require different fields.

What the other fields mean for ammunition and liquids
Items that carry a quantity, such as ammunition or liquids, use quantmin and quantmax to define their fill percentage. These settings do not replace nominal and min: the latter govern how many objects CE wants on the map, while the quantity fields govern how full each qualifying object is when it appears. The documented value -1 delegates the fill behavior to the game default.
cost affects selection priority during a restock cycle. Raising it is therefore a way to influence which eligible items are selected earlier, not a direct way to increase the total target. Use it only when you understand the competition among entries in the same economy cycle.
Configuration boundaries and unsupported assumptions
The values are not official player-facing guarantees
The available explanations come primarily from hosting-company and community guides. No official Bohemia Interactive page defining the complete types.xml schema was identified in the material available for this guide. The field descriptions above should therefore be treated as operational guidance, not a promise that every edge case behaves identically across game versions or server builds.
Modded missions need their own verification
Community notes mention that mods may add entries in a separate file or override vanilla definitions, but the exact handling is not established here. Before editing a modded economy, inspect the mission’s actual file layout and the mod’s installation instructions. Do not assume that changing vanilla types.xml overrides every mod entry.
Version and map differences matter
The documented example path is for vanilla Chernarus. Other maps, custom missions, and future server versions can use different mission names or files. Keep a backup, change one controlled variable at a time, and record the server version and map when evaluating results.

Adjust lifetime for persistence, validate classification names against the limits-definition files, and test uncertain restock behavior on your own server rather than assuming that every guide’s explanation applies to every version.
