Language and listing metadata are changed in the active FiveM server.cfg (or txAdmin’s CFG editor); a physical server region is not. Set the declared language with sets locale "en-US", discovery labels with sets tags "roleplay, cars, racing", and the displayed name with sv_hostname "Your Server Name". If players must connect to a different geographic region, migrate or redeploy the FXServer on a machine or provider endpoint in that geography.
What you can change in FiveM’s configuration
FiveM uses several independent settings that are often described as a “region” setting. They affect different parts of the player experience, so changing one does not substitute for another.

The commands above belong in the configuration used by the running FXServer profile. A line in an unused template, an old backup, or a different included configuration will have no effect.
How to change the language on a FiveM server
1. Find and back up the active configuration
Before editing, make a copy of the server.cfg that the active profile loads. In txAdmin, the existing-server workflow and CFG editor work with the configuration assigned to that profile. A provider-managed installation may expose the same file through a control panel instead of a normal file browser. Record the profile or startup command so you know exactly which file is in use.

2. Replace the locale line
Add or edit one locale declaration:
sets locale "en-US"Use a real locale identifier rather than the root-AQ placeholder found in some templates. Examples used by Cfx.re configuration documentation include en-US, fr-CA, nl-NL, de-DE, en-GB, and pt-BR. The first part identifies the language and the second part identifies the regional variant. Choose the code that best describes the server’s primary language, not the physical data-center location.
3. Remove conflicting declarations
Keep one effective sets locale value in the active configuration chain. If an included file contains another locale line, the value loaded later can override the one you edited. Search the profile’s main file and its included configuration files for sets locale, then remove or update stale duplicates.
Choose the locale deliberately
The locale should describe the language your community primarily uses. For example, en-GB and en-US both identify English, but they represent different regional variants. Likewise, fr-CA identifies Canadian French. The setting is descriptive metadata; it does not translate resource text, menus, chat, scripts, or support documentation automatically. Those elements remain whatever language their resources provide unless you translate and configure them separately.
How to change FiveM server tags
Use one quoted, comma-separated value
Tags are listing metadata. Set them as a single quoted string:
sets tags "roleplay, economy, cars"Separate labels with commas and keep the entire value inside the quotation marks. Choose terms that accurately describe the experience players will find. For example, a server focused on roleplay, an economy, and vehicles might use roleplay, economy, cars; adding a tag for a feature that does not exist makes the listing less useful.
Check for duplicate or stale tag lines
If the browser does not show the expected labels, search every configuration file loaded by the active profile for sets tags. Multiple declarations can leave an older value in effect. Replace the old line rather than appending several competing lines, then restart the profile and allow the listing to refresh normally.

Changing tags changes how the server is described for discovery. It does not add resources or alter gameplay. Scripts, maps, vehicles, jobs, and economy systems must be installed and configured separately.

Use tags as an accurate discovery summary
Review tags whenever the server’s actual focus changes. A roleplay server that adds an economy can update its descriptors, while a racing server should not imply roleplay features it does not offer. Keep the list readable and consistent with sv_projectDesc; contradictory labels can confuse prospective players even when the configuration syntax is valid.
How to change the displayed name and project information
Use separate fields for the name players see and the project metadata associated with it:

sv_hostname is the server-specific host name. Follow the hostname rules in the current server-command documentation; a value that is too long or contains disallowed content may be truncated or rejected.

These are independent project fields. You can change the project name or description without changing the hostname, or update all three when rebranding. Keep the description factual and consistent with the tags so players receive the same information in the listing and in the project metadata.
Changing only sv_hostname therefore is not the same as changing the project name. Check each field after a rebrand: the hostname is the server-specific display name, while the project fields provide separate project-level identity and description.
Editing with txAdmin
txAdmin is included with FXServer and provides a CFG editor and validator, so a separate resource is not required just to edit locale, tags, or naming fields.
- Open the txAdmin panel for the server profile that actually starts your FXServer.
- Open the profile’s CFG editor and confirm that it points to the live
server.cfg, not a sample or archived file. - Back up or copy the current contents before making changes.
- Add or edit
sets locale,sets tags,sv_hostname,sets sv_projectName, andsets sv_projectDescas needed. - Use the editor’s validation function to catch malformed syntax, then save the configuration.
- Restart the server through the normal txAdmin workflow. Check the listing and connect from the client locations you care about; browser metadata may take a normal refresh interval to update rather than changing instantly.
If your host supplies its own panel, use that panel’s configuration editor and restart controls instead. The important requirement is that the edited file is the one passed to the active profile.

When a panel and a file edit disagree
Provider panels sometimes generate or copy configuration files. If a change disappears after a restart, compare the panel’s saved configuration with the file on disk and identify which one the startup profile loads. Save the setting in the authoritative editor, not merely in a local copy. Keep a dated backup so you can restore the last known-good configuration if validation fails.
Why changing locale does not change the server’s physical region
There is no normal documented server.cfg variable that relocates an FXServer between geographic regions. sets locale declares language metadata; it is not a hosting move. Likewise, tags and project names only describe the server.
The physical region comes from the host machine, VPS, or game-server provider location and its network endpoints. That location influences the route players take to the server and therefore their latency. It also determines which provider facilities, ports, network protections, backup options, and jurisdictions are available.
If the real requirement is lower latency for a particular population, a different country for operational or data-residency reasons, or a provider facility with suitable capacity, you must redeploy or migrate the FXServer to an available location in that geography. Editing the locale line cannot accomplish that.
How to move a FiveM server to another physical region
Plan the move
- Player latency: identify where most players connect from and select a facility with an appropriate network path. Do not infer latency from the locale code.
- Provider availability and ports: confirm that the target location offers FiveM-compatible hosting, the required game and panel endpoints, and the port allocation your server needs.
- Data residency and jurisdiction: if your project has a location requirement, verify the provider’s actual facility and applicable terms rather than relying on a country label in the server name.
- Migration and backups: establish a restorable backup of configuration, resources, databases, and any other persistent server data before shutting down the old instance.
- DDoS and network protection: compare the target provider’s protection and network design with the service you are leaving.
- Operating cost: prices and included services vary by provider and location; the configuration documentation does not establish a universal regional price.

Move the installation
- Stop or schedule a maintenance window for the current server so persistent data is not changing during the final copy.
- Create and verify backups of the active
server.cfg, txAdmin profile data, resources, databases, and any provider-specific files your deployment requires. - Provision an FXServer-compatible machine or game-server plan in the target geography. Confirm its network endpoints and firewall rules before transferring players.
- Copy the server installation and data to the new host, preserving permissions and the startup profile.
- Review the copied configuration. Keep the desired
sets locale, tags, hostname, project name, and description, but update any endpoint or provider-specific values required by the new machine. - Start the new instance privately or during a controlled maintenance window. Validate resource loading, database connectivity, ports, and administrative access.
- Test connections from the intended player regions and compare the observed experience. A locale change is not a latency test.
- Once the new instance is stable, direct players to the new endpoint using your normal server-listing or connection process, then retain the old backup until the migration is confirmed.
Keep the old installation available until you have verified startup, resources, databases, ports, administration, and player access on the destination. A metadata edit is reversible in seconds; a host migration needs a tested rollback plan.
Restarting and verifying the change
Save the file and restart through the profile’s normal txAdmin or FXServer workflow. A reload that does not restart the process may leave the old metadata in memory. After startup, verify the following:
- The console starts without a configuration syntax error.
- The active profile references the file you edited.
- The listing shows the intended name, project information, locale, and tags after its normal refresh period.
- A client can connect from the locations relevant to your community.
- Changing metadata did not accidentally remove an included configuration or resource.
Keep the exact locale and tag strings you selected in your deployment notes. This makes a later migration or rollback less error-prone.

Separate metadata verification from network verification
Check listing fields in the browser, then check connectivity from representative client locations. A correct locale proves only that the declaration was loaded. It does not prove that the provider moved, that routing improved, or that the target country is being used. Conversely, a successful connection does not prove that the listing metadata is current; allow normal browser refresh behavior.
Troubleshooting common problems
The language still appears unchanged
- Confirm that the locale is a valid identifier such as
en-USorpt-BR, notroot-AQ. - Check that the edited file is passed to the active txAdmin or FXServer profile.
- Search included files for a later
sets localedeclaration. - Restart the process and allow the listing to refresh before judging the result.
Tags are missing or wrong
- Use one quoted value:
sets tags "roleplay, cars, racing". - Keep commas inside the quotation marks and remove stale duplicate lines from included configurations.
- Restart the active profile and check the listing again after its normal refresh behavior.
The name is truncated or rejected
Review the hostname rules in the server-command documentation and shorten or revise the value to meet those rules. Check the project-name and project-description fields separately; a valid project description does not make an invalid hostname valid.
Players are still connecting from the “wrong” region
That is expected when only sets locale or tags were changed. Those fields do not alter routing or geography. Move the machine or provider endpoint, then test the new network path from representative client locations.
I want to edit these values but do not have txAdmin
Edit the active server.cfg through your host’s file manager or deployment workflow. txAdmin is a convenient included editor, not a prerequisite for the configuration commands themselves.

Validation checks syntax; it does not guarantee that the public browser has refreshed. Confirm that the process restarted, then allow normal listing refresh behavior. Avoid repeatedly adding new lines while waiting, because duplicates make it harder to identify the effective value.
The move costs more than expected
There is no universal regional price. Compare the provider’s recurring plan charge, included ports, backups, DDoS protection, network capacity, and any location-specific service differences. Make the cost comparison before copying the installation, and retain a restorable backup regardless of the chosen provider.
