To change Beats settings, first identify the exact Beats model and connect it to your host device. On iPhone or iPad, tap the connected Beats name in Settings; on Mac, select it in System Settings; on Android, use the Beats app and open My Beats. Pairing controls Bluetooth, while listening modes, button actions, microphone behavior and Spatial Audio are separate settings that appear only when your model and software support them.

Identify your Beats model and host device first

Beats does not use one universal settings screen. The available controls depend on both the product and the device running its settings. Before changing anything, note whether you have earbuds, an on-ear headset or an over-ear headset, and whether the host is an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android phone or another Bluetooth computer.

  • Bluetooth settings control discovery, pairing, connection status and which device receives audio.
  • Playback and call settings control actions such as play/pause, answering or ending calls, microphone behavior and automatic ear detection when supported.
  • Noise-control settings switch Noise Cancellation, Transparency and Off on products with the required microphones and firmware.
  • Spatial Audio settings are separate from noise control and require compatible Beats hardware, software, apps and content.

If a menu or option described below is missing, that normally means the product does not support it, the Beats are not connected, or the host software uses a different label. Do not apply a button sequence from another model. Apple’s current guidance covers products including Beats Fit Pro, Beats Flex, Beats Pill, Beats Solo 4, Beats Solo Buds, Beats Studio Buds +, Beats Studio Pro, Powerbeats Fit and Powerbeats Pro 2, but legacy products can expose different controls.

Pair your Beats before opening their settings

Settings pages generally show the product only after it is powered on and connected. Charge the Beats, turn on Bluetooth on the host device, put the Beats into discovery mode, and complete pairing before looking for listening or button controls.

  • Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
  • Ultralight ergonomic design for all-day comfort. Flex-grip headband and ergonomically angled, adjustable ear cups for a stable fit.
  • UltraPlush ear cushions are designed for comfort and durability.

Discovery mode is not identical across the range. Apple’s current examples include holding the system button on supported earbud cases, holding the power button on Beats Flex or Beats Solo 4, and holding the system button on Beats Studio Pro. Those examples are model-specific, not a universal Beats shortcut. If the product does not appear, consult the instructions for its exact model and repeat the discovery action until its indicator shows that it is ready to pair.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
  2. Put the Beats into discovery mode using the procedure for the exact model. Supported earbuds may require holding the case system button; Beats Flex and Beats Solo 4 use their power-button procedure; Beats Studio Pro uses its system-button procedure.
  3. When the product appears under available devices, tap its name. If an on-screen setup prompt appears, follow it instead.
  4. Keep the Beats worn or nearby while the connection completes. Then open the Beats entry in Settings to expose product-specific controls.

After initial setup, Apple-account devices signed in to the same Apple Account may pair automatically. This convenience applies within the supported Apple-account setup; it is not a promise that a Beats connection will automatically transfer between unrelated accounts or platforms.

Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
  2. Place the Beats in discovery mode using the model’s instructions.
  3. Find the Beats in the device list and select Connect.
  4. For product controls after pairing, select the Beats name in the System Settings sidebar. Bluetooth connection details remain available under System Settings > Bluetooth.

If more than one audio device is paired with the Mac, check which one is selected for output after connecting. A successful Bluetooth connection does not by itself guarantee that macOS has switched the active sound output or call microphone to the Beats.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Android

  1. Open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth and enable Bluetooth.
  2. Put the Beats into discovery mode, then tap the product when it appears. Accept the pairing prompt if Android displays one.
  3. Install and open the Beats app if you want model-specific controls. The app can also provide Connect Your Beats when the product is not yet connected.
  4. If the app opens to another page, open its menu and choose My Beats, then select the connected product.

Devices signed in to the same Google Account may automatically pair after initial setup in supported circumstances. That behavior is separate from Apple-account pairing and should not be assumed to work across Apple and Android devices. Apple describes the Android app as “not a music player”; it works alongside the music player you choose, such as Apple Music. You still use your normal music, podcast or video app for playback.

Another Bluetooth host, including a Windows PC

Turn on Bluetooth in the host’s own settings, put the Beats into discovery mode and follow that device’s pairing instructions. Apple names a Windows PC as an example of another Bluetooth-enabled host. The discovery button or case action is product-specific, so use the instructions for your model rather than a universal sequence. Once paired, use the computer’s own sound controls to choose the Beats as output and, for calls, as the microphone when available.

Open the connected Beats settings on each platform

iPhone or iPad: tap the Beats name in Settings

Wear and connect the Beats, open Settings, and tap the Beats name near the top of the screen. The page can include controls for listening mode, press-and-hold actions, microphone behavior, calls, ear detection and other features, but only when the product supports them. If you see only basic device information, verify that the product is currently connected rather than merely remembered in the Bluetooth list.

Mac: select the Beats in System Settings

Open Apple menu > System Settings, then select the Beats name in the sidebar. Use System Settings > Bluetooth for connection details such as whether the product is connected or needs to be reconnected. Audio options such as Spatial Audio may be presented separately from Bluetooth details, so do not expect every listening control inside the Bluetooth device card.

  • Custom acoustic architecture and updated drivers for powerful Beats sound.

Android: use Beats app > My Beats

Open the Beats app, choose My Beats from the menu if the device page is not already open, and scroll through the controls shown for the connected product. Android does not display unsupported controls; an absent setting is therefore not evidence that the app is malfunctioning. The app’s device page is also where supported firmware-level controls, noise modes and button assignments are exposed, while Android’s Bluetooth page remains the place for pairing and connection status.

How do I turn noise cancellation on or off on Beats?

On supported products, the three listening modes are:

  • Noise Cancellation: reduces external sound to help you focus.
  • Transparency: feeds surrounding sound through so you can hear what is around you.
  • Off: turns off those listening modes.

These modes require compatible Beats hardware. A product without active noise-control support will not gain Noise Cancellation or Transparency from an app setting. In other words, a missing mode is often a hardware or model limitation, not a hidden Bluetooth preference.

Switch modes on iPhone or iPad

  1. Connect the Beats and open Control Center.
  2. Touch and hold the volume control to expand the audio panel.
  3. Tap Listening Mode.
  4. Choose Noise Cancellation, Transparency or Off, if those modes are offered for your model.

You can also change the mode from the connected Beats page in Settings when that control is available. The Control Center route changes the currently connected Beats; it does not alter the Bluetooth pairing list.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Switch modes on Android

  1. Open the Beats app and go to My Beats.
  2. Open the connected product’s displayed noise-mode control, which may be labelled Noise Control.
  3. Tap the mode you want: Noise Cancellation, Transparency or Off, subject to model support.

If only one or two choices appear, use the choices shown for that product. Do not assume that every model with a Beats app entry has all three listening modes.

Use a physical press-and-hold control

On supported products, assign a left or right earbud or button to Listening Mode or Noise Control in the Beats settings. The press-and-hold cycle contains only the modes selected in that setting. Off is not enabled in the cycle by default, so add it to the selected mode list if you want to cycle through Off, Transparency and Noise Cancellation.

If the product has two assignable earbuds, choose Left or Right when assigning the action. When volume control is enabled, the opposing volume action is assigned automatically to the other earbud. Assigning volume can displace listening-mode switching and Siri or another voice assistant from that press-and-hold control. This is a control-assignment trade-off: the same physical press cannot perform every assignment simultaneously.

How do I change what the Beats button does?

Connect the product, open its settings page, and look for a press-and-hold, button or earbud-control assignment. Depending on the model, the available assignment can include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Listening Mode or Noise Control
  • Siri or another voice assistant
  • Volume up or volume down

The list is model-dependent. A control shown for one pair may not be available on another. If assigning volume removes a noise-mode or voice-assistant action, that is an expected consequence of using the same physical control, not a Bluetooth fault. On a product with separate left and right assignments, configure each side deliberately and test a short press and a press-and-hold so you know which gesture performs which action.

Change microphone, call and ear-detection behavior

Some Beats settings pages include microphone mute or unmute behavior, a choice of active microphone, call-ending actions and automatic ear detection. Android shows these options in My Beats only when the connected product supports them. The host’s calling app can still have its own input and mute controls, so check both places during a call.

  • Apple’s guide identifies Beats Fit Pro, Powerbeats Fit and Powerbeats Pro 2 for automatic ear detection among the supported products.
  • Beats Flex is identified for automatic play/pause and call-answering features.

Those examples are not a universal feature list. If an ear-detection or call option is absent, check the exact model’s controls rather than trying to force the setting through Bluetooth. An ear-detection setting also affects playback behavior, not whether the headphones are paired.

Use Spatial Audio and head tracking when supported

Spatial Audio is an audio-format feature, not a noise-control mode and not a universal Beats equalizer. Compatible Beats hardware, operating-system software, app and content are required. It may be unavailable in some apps or with ordinary stereo material.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On Mac, compatible content can expose these choices:

  • Off: disables Spatial Audio.
  • Fixed: uses Spatial Audio without head tracking.
  • Head Tracked: uses Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.

When the content is not Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, Apple may label the control Spatialise Stereo. The label describes how the stereo source is processed; it does not mean every app or track supports the same effect. The official controls described here do not establish a universal Beats EQ setting, so do not expect a general bass, treble or graphic-equalizer page in every Beats app. If Spatial Audio is missing, first verify the app and content as well as the hardware and operating-system requirements.

Keep Bluetooth connection settings separate from playback settings

Changing a Bluetooth setting determines whether the host and Beats can discover, pair or reconnect. It does not automatically change the music app’s output, the selected microphone or a listening mode. Conversely, choosing Transparency or changing a button assignment does not repair a failed Bluetooth pairing.

When sound seems wrong, check both layers: verify that the Beats show as connected in the host’s Bluetooth page, then verify that the host selected the Beats as the sound output and, for calls, the intended microphone input. Check the host volume and the Beats volume separately where both are available. A track can be playing successfully while routed to built-in speakers, and a call can use a laptop microphone even while the Beats handle its audio output.

Why won’t my Beats connect?

Use the following sequence before resetting the product. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance recommends keeping the devices within 30 feet during these checks; that is a troubleshooting distance, not a guarantee of universal Bluetooth range.

  1. Reduce distance. Keep the Beats and host close together.
  2. Remove interference. Move away from other Bluetooth devices, microwaves, wireless routers and nearby electronics.
  3. Check power. Confirm that both the Beats and host are turned on and charged.
  4. Check routing. In the host’s sound controls, select the Beats as the output. For calls, check the selected input as well.
  5. Check both volume levels. Raise the host volume and the Beats volume where separate controls exist, and make sure the app or call is not muted.
  6. Test local audio. Play a downloaded track instead of streaming so a network or streaming-app problem is not mistaken for a Bluetooth problem.
  7. Forget and pair again. Remove the Beats from the host’s Bluetooth device list, put the product back into discovery mode and complete pairing again.
  8. Reset only as a last step. Follow the reset procedure for the exact Beats model, then pair it again. Do not use another model’s reset or discovery sequence.

If the Beats connect but the settings page is empty, disconnect any competing host, reconnect the product, update the host and Beats app where applicable, and reopen the product page. A missing feature control still may simply indicate that the model does not support it. Forgetting and resetting should come after checking sound routing, power and interference because those simpler issues do not erase existing pairings.

What to do when a menu or mode is missing

  • Confirm that the Beats are connected, not merely listed as a remembered Bluetooth device.
  • Check the exact product name; similarly named earbuds and headsets can expose different controls.
  • Look in the platform-specific location: the Beats entry in iPhone or iPad Settings, the Beats sidebar entry on Mac, or My Beats in the Android app.
  • For noise modes, confirm that the product has the necessary active-noise-control hardware.
  • For Spatial Audio, verify compatible hardware, software, app and content.
  • For automatic ear detection, microphone and call controls, accept that the option may be model-specific rather than hidden.
  • For a button assignment, check whether another function such as volume has already claimed the same press-and-hold gesture.

Menu names and supported products can change with software releases. When a stated label is absent, use the current instructions for your exact model and host operating-system version instead of assuming the hardware is defective. This settings task does not require a new accessory or a purchase; it requires a charged, connected Beats product and the appropriate host settings or app.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change Bluetooth settings on my Beats headphones?

Pair the powered-on Beats in the host’s Bluetooth settings first. On iPhone or iPad use Settings > Bluetooth, on Mac use System Settings > Bluetooth and select Connect, and on Android use Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. Then open the product’s settings page for additional controls.

How do I switch Beats to Transparency mode?

On iPhone or iPad, connect the Beats, open Control Center, hold the volume control, tap Listening Mode and choose Transparency. On Android, open Beats app > My Beats and choose Transparency from the displayed noise-mode control. The option appears only on supported products.

Why is Noise Cancellation missing?

Noise Cancellation and Transparency require compatible active-noise-control hardware. Confirm that the Beats are connected and that you are viewing the correct model page; if the mode still does not appear, that model may not support it.

Can I add Off to the press-and-hold listening-mode cycle?

Yes, on supported products. Open the listening-mode or Noise Control assignment and include Off in the selected modes. Off is not included in the press-and-hold cycle by default.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What happens if I assign volume to a Beats earbud or button?

On products with two assignable earbuds, selecting volume for one side automatically assigns the opposing volume action to the other. The same press-and-hold control may no longer switch listening modes or activate Siri or another voice assistant.

Why won’t my Beats connect even though Bluetooth is on?

Keep the Beats and host within 30 feet, reduce interference from nearby electronics, check that both are charged, select the Beats as the sound output and test downloaded audio. If needed, forget the Beats, pair again using the model-specific discovery procedure, and reset only as a last step.

Is the Beats app a music player?

No. Apple describes it as an app used in addition to the music player of your choice. Use your normal music, podcast or video app for playback and the Beats app for supported device settings.

Are Spatial Audio and Noise Cancellation the same setting?

No. Noise Cancellation, Transparency and Off are listening modes. Spatial Audio and head tracking are separate audio options that depend on compatible hardware, software, apps and content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Connect the exact Beats model before changing anything. Use Bluetooth settings for pairing and reconnection, the Beats entry in Apple settings or My Beats on Android for supported controls, and Control Center or the displayed noise-mode menu for Noise Cancellation, Transparency and Off. Button assignments, microphones, ear detection and Spatial Audio vary by model, so a missing option may be expected. For connection failures, check distance, interference, power, sound routing and volume before forgetting the device or resetting it.
