For less movement, use Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements > Reduce animations (the documented path on the Galaxy Z Fold6). For direct control over how quickly windows open, apps launch, and transitions play, enable Developer options and adjust Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. Lower values make animations shorter; Off removes them.
Menu names can differ by Fold generation and One UI version. If a path does not match your phone, use the Settings search field for “Reduce animations,” “Developer options,” or “animation scale.”
Choose the control that matches your goal
Samsung provides two different ways to change motion on a Galaxy Z Fold. They are not interchangeable:

The Galaxy Z Fold6 manual describes Reduce animations as a way to reduce animation effects for people who are sensitive to animations or screen movement. Samsung’s Developer options guidance is intended for development and testing, so those controls offer more precision but also carry more risk of an unexpectedly fast, slow, or choppy interface.

Turn on Reduce animations on a Galaxy Z Fold6
This is the safest first step when your priority is less motion rather than a specific speed.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Choose Vision enhancements.
- Turn on Reduce animations.
The setting takes effect immediately. It reduces animation effects; it is not a numerical speed slider, so it may not make every transition play at a chosen fraction of its original duration.
If you cannot see the option
Open Settings and tap the search icon or search box. Search for Reduce animations. On another Fold generation or a different One UI release, the wording or category can differ, and the option may be grouped under a similarly named vision or motion setting. The exact path documented above is for the Galaxy Z Fold6.

Turn it off again
Return to Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements and switch Reduce animations off. If your phone uses a different menu arrangement, find the same switch through Settings search.
Change animation speed with Developer options
Developer options expose three scale controls that affect different kinds of animation. Samsung hides this menu by default on most Galaxy phones.
1. Unhide Developer options
- Open Settings.
- Tap About device or About phone. The label depends on the software version.
- Tap Software information.
- Find Build number and tap it seven times.
- When prompted, enter the phone’s pattern, PIN, or password.
A confirmation message indicates that Developer options are enabled. Samsung’s current UK instructions specify the seven taps and credential check. The Developer options entry then appears somewhere in Settings, although its exact position can vary by model and software version. Use Settings search for Developer options if you do not see it in the main list.
2. Find the three animation scales
- Open Settings and search for
Developer options, or open the newly displayed Developer options menu. - Scroll through the menu to the animation section.
- Locate Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale.
On some versions the three entries are close together; on others you may need to scroll. If one is absent, search within Settings and confirm that Developer options is still enabled. Samsung does not promise identical labels on every Fold generation.

Tap each scale and select a value offered by your phone. A lower multiplier shortens the corresponding animation. Selecting Off removes that category of animation. A commonly used choice is 0.5x, but Samsung does not prescribe 0.5x as an official setting; use it only if you prefer the feel. The available choices can differ by software release.

For a consistently faster feel, set all three to the same value. If you want to preserve some visual feedback, try 0.5x on each instead of turning them off. You can also change one at a time and test the inner and cover screens before changing the next.

What “faster” means on a foldable phone
Animation scales change the duration of supported visual effects; they do not increase the processor, refresh rate, network speed, or app loading performance. An app that is waiting for data can still take the same time to respond even when its transition is shorter.
Fold and unfold behavior can involve system transitions that are not all controlled by one scale. The three controls affect the Android and app animations that honor those system durations, while a particular Samsung or third-party app may implement its own timing. Therefore, changing the scales can make the interface feel faster without eliminating every visual movement on both displays.

Recommended settings for common situations
You are sensitive to motion
Start with Reduce animations. It is the documented accessibility control on the Z Fold6 and avoids exposing unrelated Developer options. If movement remains uncomfortable, review the phone’s other accessibility and display controls, but change only settings whose purpose you understand.
You want a snappier interface
Enable Developer options and try 0.5x for all three scales. This is a preference-based configuration, not a Samsung requirement. Use the phone for a few minutes on both screens and in several apps; return to the prior value if text, menus, or in-app effects appear rushed.
You want no transition delay
Set the three scales to Off. Expect a more abrupt interface with little or no visual transition. Some apps can still show their own animations because they do not rely on the system scales.
You want the normal Samsung feel back
Open each scale and choose the value that was selected before you changed it. If you did not record the original values, restore the device’s standard choice shown in each picker rather than mixing different values. Then switch the main Developer options toggle off if you no longer need the menu.
Fine-tune the result without guesswork
There is no single best animation value for every Fold owner. A setting that feels responsive on the cover display can feel too abrupt on the larger inner screen, and a particular app can use more visible motion than another. Use a short, repeatable test instead of changing all three controls randomly.
- Write down or photograph the original selection in each animation picker.
- Change only one scale first, then open and close a few windows and move between several screens.
- Repeat the same test on the cover display and the unfolded inner display.
- Open at least one Samsung app and one third-party app, because apps can implement their own animation timing.
- If the result is too abrupt, choose a less aggressive value rather than immediately switching every control back and forth.
- Once you like the feel, set the remaining scales to the same value only if you want a consistent response.
This approach also makes troubleshooting easier. If a problem begins immediately after changing one control, you know which picker to restore. Keeping a record matters because Samsung’s normal selection can vary with the device software, and the menu does not provide a universal reset button for only the animation entries.
Choosing between 0.5x and Off
0.5x is commonly chosen because it shortens supported effects while preserving some indication that a screen or window is changing. It is not an official Samsung recommendation, and your phone may display different choices. Off removes the selected category’s animation, which can make taps appear to produce an immediate jump. That may be useful when any transition delay is distracting, but it also removes visual feedback that helps explain where the interface is going.

You do not have to use the same choice for every scale. For example, you can test a shorter window animation while leaving another scale unchanged, then decide whether the combination feels coherent. Mixed values are valid, but they can make different interactions feel inconsistent. If consistency matters, use the same selected value in all three pickers and evaluate it for several minutes before deciding.

Animation settings are system settings, so they can affect both the cover and inner screens, but the visible result depends on the transition being used. Open and close windows, switch between recent apps, return to the home screen, and launch a few apps on each display. Also test an app that shows lists or dialogs, since animator-based effects may be more noticeable there.
If one app appears unchanged, that does not automatically mean the setting failed. The app may use its own duration or may not animate that action at all. System scales cannot guarantee removal of every effect created by Samsung software or a third-party developer. Look in the app’s own accessibility or display settings if it offers a motion preference.
Performance, battery, and app behavior
Shortening an animation does not make the Fold’s processor faster or reduce the time required to download data. It changes how long a supported visual effect is displayed. A slow network request, account sign-in, or content load can therefore remain slow even when the interface seems more immediate.
Samsung describes Developer options as tools for application development and testing and warns that changing settings can affect display behavior, performance, functionality, installed apps, and battery consumption. The warning applies especially when experimenting with unrelated Developer options. For this task, limit changes to the three animation scales, evaluate the result, and restore the original values if the phone behaves unexpectedly.
Warnings before changing Developer options
Samsung’s specific warning for window animation scale is that screen transitions or app-launch speeds may become unusually fast, slow, or choppy. Treat that as a compatibility warning, not as evidence that the phone’s hardware has changed.
- Change only the three animation scales unless you have a separate reason to use another Developer option.
- Record the original values or photograph the three pickers before editing them.
- Change one setting at a time when diagnosing a problem.
- Do not assume that a shorter animation means an app is loading faster.
- Keep your PIN, pattern, or password available; it is required when enabling the hidden menu.
Troubleshoot missing controls or unexpected behavior
Build number does not respond after seven taps
Make sure you are in Settings > About device/About phone > Software information, not on the general About screen. Tap the actual Build number row seven times in succession, then authenticate when prompted. If the phone is managed by an organization, an administrator may restrict access to Developer options.
Developer options is enabled but cannot be found
Use the Settings search field and enter Developer options. Samsung notes that the menu’s location can vary. Search is more reliable than relying on a path copied from a different Fold model or One UI release.
The animation scale entries are missing
Confirm that the main Developer options switch is on, then search for each term: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. Labels and availability can vary by software version. Do not substitute unrelated options simply because they contain the word “animation.”

The phone now feels choppy or too abrupt
Open the three scale pickers and return them to their previous values, or choose a less aggressive value such as 0.5x instead of Off. Samsung specifically warns that changing the window animation scale can make transitions or app launching unusually fast, slow, or choppy. If lag or temporary app crashes continue after you restore the scales and turn Developer options off, restart the phone.
An app still animates normally
That app may use its own animation timing rather than the Android system scales. The system controls cannot guarantee removal of every app-specific effect. Use the app’s own accessibility or animation preference if it provides one.
Reduce animations changed less than expected
Reduce animations is designed to reduce animation effects, not to provide a numeric multiplier. For exact duration control, use the three Developer options scales, accepting the additional risk and complexity.
Restore the phone safely
- Return to Developer options.
- Restore Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale to the values you recorded or to the phone’s normal selections.
- Turn the main Developer options switch off if you do not need development tools.
- If temporary crashes or system lag remain, restart the Galaxy Z Fold.
- If you enabled Reduce animations and want the original visual effects, return to Accessibility > Vision enhancements and switch it off.
Disabling Developer options does not require a factory reset. The important step is restoring altered values before evaluating whether the phone is behaving normally.

A software update can move a setting, rename a menu, or change which values appear in a picker. It does not make an old path reliable for every Fold generation. After updating, use Settings search for the function name rather than assuming the previous menu order is unchanged. Check all three scales if the interface suddenly feels different, and verify whether Reduce animations is still enabled if you rely on it for motion sensitivity.
Do not change unrelated Developer options simply because an update added or moved them. The animation controls are sufficient for this task. If a control is unavailable on your version, use the closest documented accessibility option instead of substituting an unfamiliar setting.

Model and software-version limits
The product-specific documentation cited here is for the Galaxy Z Fold6. Samsung’s general Developer options instructions apply across Galaxy devices, but they do not guarantee that every Fold generation uses the same menu names, order, or available values. One UI updates can also move settings.
When your screen differs from these instructions, use Settings search and match the function rather than forcing an old path. Look for the exact terms Reduce animations, Developer options, and the three scale names. If your version uses a translated or shortened label, the surrounding description should still identify the animation control.
