To change the code or password that unlocks your Samsung tablet, open Settings > Lock screen > Screen lock type, verify your current lock if prompted, then choose Password or another available method and follow the prompts. If you mean your separate Samsung account password, change it under Settings > Samsung account > Security and privacy > Password.
First, identify which password you want to change
A tablet screen lock and a Samsung account password do different jobs. Changing one does not change the other.

Change the password or lock method used to unlock the tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap Lock screen or the lock-screen section. Some newer software may show Lock screen and AOD.
- Tap Screen lock type.
- Enter your current screen lock if the tablet asks you to authenticate.
- Choose Password for an alphanumeric password, or choose another available option such as a PIN or pattern.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to enter and confirm the new lock.
Samsung’s manual documents the general route through Settings and the available lock-method concept, but it is for an older Galaxy phone. Menu names and layout can differ on tablets and across software versions. If you do not see the setting, search Settings for Screen lock type or consult support for your exact tablet model and software version. Samsung Galaxy S9+ manual.

Change your Samsung account password
- Open Settings on the Galaxy tablet.
- Tap your Samsung account name at the top.
- Tap Security and privacy, then Password.
- Enter the current password, then enter the new password twice as prompted.
- Tap Next. If the tablet signs you out, sign in again with the new password and complete two-step verification if requested.

Reset a forgotten Samsung account password
If you cannot enter the current account password, use Reset password in the Galaxy sign-in flow or Samsung’s web reset process. Samsung’s recovery flow may verify your identity using the account email address and associated phone number, with text, email, or previously selected security questions among the possible methods. It may also request your date of birth. If you cannot complete recovery, Samsung advises contacting Support. Samsung account support.

If the setting or password change does not work
- Cannot find Screen lock type: Search for that phrase in Settings; menu wording depends on the tablet and software version.
- Current screen lock is rejected: The screen-lock change requires authentication with the existing method. Do not confuse it with your Samsung account password.
- Samsung account sign-in fails after changing the password: Use the new password, then complete two-step verification if prompted.
- Account recovery cannot verify you: Follow Samsung’s recovery prompts or contact Samsung Support through its account help page.
