The most dependable household method is to cast your Meta Quest 3S to the Meta Horizon mobile app, then optionally mirror that phone to a television. In the headset, press the Meta button, open Camera > Cast, choose Meta Horizon mobile app, and confirm. Direct TV casting can work when the television or streaming device appears in the destination list, but Meta cautions that Chromecast casting is not fully supported and may fail on some devices.
Meta describes casting as a platform feature for phone, tablet, TV and browser destinations, but compatibility depends on the specific receiving device and software combination. The instructions below separate the supported phone workflow from less predictable TV and computer routes.
Choose the right casting route
Use the route that matches what you want people to watch and what equipment you already have. The phone-app path is the primary setup because Meta support documents it directly and the Meta Horizon app can act as the first viewing destination.

Do not infer support merely from the words “smart TV.” The receiving model must be offered as a destination or work through a separate mirroring method that its manufacturer supports.

What you need before starting
- A charged and powered-on Meta Quest 3S.
- The Meta Horizon mobile app installed on the phone or tablet when using the mobile route.
- The phone app open for the entire casting session. Meta support warns that minimizing or exiting the app can interrupt casting.
- The headset and mobile app signed in to the same account, as specified in Meta support material.
- A television or streaming device that is actually listed as an available Cast destination if you are attempting a direct TV connection.
- Current headset software and a current Meta Horizon app. Updating both is a recommended recovery step when casting will not start.
There is no additional accessory requirement in the documented phone workflow. A separate Chromecast-enabled receiver may be useful for other apps, but it is not a guaranteed Quest 3S destination because Meta’s own support warning limits direct Chromecast compatibility.
How do I cast my Quest 3S to my phone?
Keep the Meta Horizon app visible on the phone while you perform these steps. The menu labels below come from a Meta community support response; labels can move or change after a headset software update.
- Open Meta Horizon and sign in. Leave the app running rather than switching it away during the cast.
- Open the universal menu in the headset. Press the Meta button on the controller or headset interface to bring up the system menu.
- Open Camera. In the universal menu, select Camera.
- Choose Cast. The headset displays the destinations it can currently see.
- Select Meta Horizon mobile app. Follow any confirmation prompt shown in the headset or on the phone.
- Put the phone where viewers can see it. The phone now displays the headset view through the Meta Horizon app. Keep the app open for the duration of play.

Stop a phone cast
- Return to the headset’s universal menu with the Meta button.
- Open Camera > Cast.
- Select Stop Casting.
Stopping from the headset ends the active session. If the phone app remains open afterward, it is ready for another cast but is no longer receiving the headset view.

Can I cast Quest 3S directly to my TV?
Sometimes. In the headset, open Camera > Cast and inspect the destination list. If your television or attached receiver is presented as an available target, select it and complete the on-screen confirmation. A target appearing in the list is the practical indication that the headset currently sees it as a possible destination.
That list is not a promise that every television will work. Meta support states: “Just a reminder, Casting directly to a Chromecast device is not fully supported by Meta and may not work with some Chromecast devices.” The response does not identify an individual speaker, so this statement should be attributed to Meta support. It also means that a Chromecast-based TV can fail even when other casting apps work normally.
Why a smart TV may not appear
- The TV may not implement a receiving protocol that the Quest 3S can use directly.
- The headset may not recognize the television’s particular operating-system or receiver version.
- The TV may be visible to other apps but not exposed as a Quest Cast destination.
- The software on the headset or TV may need an update before discovery works.
There is no current universal compatibility table covering every Quest 3S software version, phone operating system and TV model. Treat the destination list as device-specific rather than assuming that a television labeled “smart” is supported.
Using a phone as a bridge to the TV
If direct TV casting is unavailable, first complete the phone procedure. Then use the phone’s built-in screen-mirroring or casting control to send the Meta Horizon app display to the television. The name and location of that control vary by phone operating system, manufacturer and TV platform, so follow the instructions for those two devices.

This two-hop arrangement is a workaround, not a guarantee. The documented Meta sources establish the headset-to-phone cast, but they do not establish universal compatibility for every phone-to-TV combination. If the phone can show the Quest view but the TV cannot, the failure is in the second hop rather than proof that the headset cast itself is broken.
How to test the bridge without changing the headset setup
- Confirm that the Quest 3S view is already visible in Meta Horizon on the phone.
- Open the phone’s system-level screen-mirroring or cast picker.
- Choose the television or receiver only if it is shown by the phone.
- Leave Meta Horizon in the foreground while testing. Switching away can stop the first hop.
- If the TV remains blank while the phone works, stop troubleshooting the headset and check the phone and TV manufacturer’s mirroring requirements.
What Google TV and Chromecast guidance does—and does not—prove
Google TV Help explains casting from the latest version of a Chromecast-enabled app or from the Chrome browser. That general guidance is useful for Google TV setup, but it does not verify that every Quest 3S and Google TV combination accepts a direct headset cast. Therefore, use the following decision rule:
- If the TV appears in Camera > Cast, try the direct connection.
- If it does not appear, use the Meta Horizon phone route and test the phone’s own mirroring feature.
- If a Chromecast target appears but fails, treat that as a known compatibility limitation rather than repeatedly resetting a working headset.
Cast to a computer with Meta Quest Developer Hub
Meta Quest Developer Hub (MQDH) provides a computer-based casting route. Meta documents it as a developer tool for viewing a connected headset, so it is not the simplest living-room method for most families. It is useful when a computer is the intended display or when the normal mobile destination is unavailable.

- Connect the Quest 3S to the computer using the connection method supported by the MQDH version you installed.
- Open the MQDH media or casting function and select the connected headset.
- For wireless MQDH casting, place the headset and computer on the same Wi-Fi network, as Meta’s guidance requires.
- Start the cast in MQDH and stop it from the same tool when finished.
The current MQDH media documentation is at Meta’s MQDH documentation. Because this path is developer-oriented, expect more setup than the phone-app route and use it only when a computer destination solves a specific need.

Troubleshooting: the phone does not appear
Work through these checks in order. They isolate account, app-state and software problems without changing several variables at once.
- Return to the headset’s Camera > Cast screen and wait for the destination list to refresh.
- Confirm that Meta Horizon is open and signed in on the phone.
- Check the same-account condition described in the requirements section.
- Force-close and reopen Meta Horizon, then try the cast again.
- Restart the headset and phone if the destination is still absent.
- Install available updates for the headset software and Meta Horizon app, then repeat the menu path.
Do not minimize or exit Meta Horizon once a cast starts. Meta support specifically warns that doing so may interrupt the session.
Troubleshooting: casting starts and then stops
- App was backgrounded: bring Meta Horizon back to the foreground and start a new cast.
- Software changed: update both ends, restart them, and retry after the update completes.
- Only one game fails: the application may disable casting. Meta support notes that some apps can restrict casting, so a failure limited to one title may be an app-level rule rather than a headset fault.
- Destination disappeared: return to Camera > Cast and look for it again before attempting a reset.
Testing a second game is a useful diagnostic: if another app casts normally, the headset and mobile route are functioning and the restriction is likely specific to the first app.

- Check whether the target is still listed in the headset’s Cast menu.
- If it is a Chromecast device, remember Meta’s warning that direct support is incomplete and may fail on some devices.
- Try the phone route instead. A working phone display confirms that the headset can cast even if the direct TV target cannot.
- Use the phone’s own mirroring feature as a second-hop experiment, following the phone and TV manufacturers’ requirements.
- For Google TV, consult Google’s current casting instructions, but do not treat them as a Quest-specific compatibility guarantee.
A TV that accepts casts from Chrome or another Chromecast-enabled app is not automatically a TV that accepts a Quest 3S cast. The Quest destination list and the actual connection result are the relevant tests.

Troubleshooting: only a particular app will not cast
Meta support says some applications may disable casting. Compare the failing title with another application:
- If several applications fail, use the software, app-state and destination checks above.
- If one application fails while another works, look for that title’s own casting, privacy or multiplayer restrictions and contact its developer if necessary.
- Do not conclude that the TV, phone or headset is incompatible solely from a single-app failure.
Which route should you use?

Do not choose a route based on advertised resolution, latency or reliability rankings. The available sources do not provide comparable consumer measurements for those characteristics.
Privacy and viewing considerations
Casting reproduces the headset view for people who can see the selected screen. Before starting, close or leave any headset screen that contains information you do not want displayed. When the session is over, use Camera > Cast > Stop Casting so the phone or other destination no longer receives the view.

If you are demonstrating a game in a public room, position the phone or TV where viewers can see it without blocking the player’s physical surroundings. This is a viewing arrangement, not a change to the headset’s controls.

Try direct TV casting only when the TV appears as a destination, because Meta does not fully support direct Chromecast casting on every device. If direct TV casting fails, use the phone as the first hop and test the phone’s own mirroring feature; if you need a computer, MQDH is the documented developer-oriented alternative.
