Use Opera’s built-in Snapshot tool first: press Ctrl+Shift+5 on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+2 on macOS. Choose Capture full page when that option is shown, then save the PNG. If your build only offers a viewport capture, export the page with Save page as PDF and capture important viewport states separately. For repeatable test runs, use Opera Browser CLI with --full-page.
Choose the right Opera capture method
Opera has a free Snapshot feature built into the browser, so a normal full-page capture does not require an extension. Snapshot can capture a visible viewport or a long, scrollable page, and it can copy the result to the clipboard or save a PNG. Opera also provides PDF export for a top-to-bottom document. The two outputs are not interchangeable: a PNG is a pixel image suited to visual diffs and issue attachments, while a PDF preserves a paginated document that is easier to print or archive.

Opera’s FAQ uses the labels Capture visible page, Capture full page and Save page as PDF. Select the full-page choice for a scrolling document; select visible-page capture when only the current viewport is evidence. 1. Stabilize the page before taking evidence
- Open the exact URL in Opera, including any route, query string or test-account state required to reproduce the issue.
- Wait for asynchronous content, images, web fonts and client-side components to finish loading. If the page lazy-loads images as you scroll, scroll through it once before capturing so the complete document is present.
- Set the viewport size and browser zoom you want to document. A responsive bug can disappear when the width or zoom changes, so record both values.
- Close unrelated tabs and windows, and dismiss transient browser notifications. Do not hide a consent banner or error if its presence is the defect being reported.
2. Inspect the page with Developer Tools
Use O Menu > Developer > Developer Tools on Windows or Linux. On macOS, enable the menu with View > Show Developer Menu, then choose Developer > Developer Tools. Opera describes Developer Tools as the place to inspect the DOM, debug CSS and JavaScript, and review network resources; its menu paths are documented in Opera’s Advanced help.

Before capture, check the Elements panel for unexpected overlays, the Console for runtime errors, and the Network panel for failed images, fonts or API requests. For a test record, write down the Opera version, operating system, viewport dimensions, zoom, URL and capture mode. These fields are practical traceability metadata rather than a mandatory Opera template.
3. Open Snapshot
Press Ctrl+Shift+5 on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+2 on macOS. You can also click the camera-shaped Snapshot icon on Opera’s toolbar. Opera’s documentation describes Snapshot as a built-in tool that can capture any part of a web page.
4. Select the full-page option
Choose Capture full page when it appears. Adjust the selection frame if Opera presents one, then click Capture. For a long page, the resulting image may be much taller than the viewport; open the saved file in an image viewer that can navigate large dimensions.

Also take separate viewport PNGs of the sections that contain the defect, because a PDF is not a pixel-for-pixel substitute for a visual screenshot. Opera’s feature page confirms that Snapshot can capture full web pages and save pages as PDF without an extension.
5. Preserve a raw image and make an annotated copy
Snapshot provides zoom, arrow, blur, highlight, pencil, text, emoji and selfie-camera tools. Save the untouched capture first. Then create a second copy with arrows or highlights. Blur credentials, personal data and tokens in the copy that leaves your team, but retain the unmodified artifact in the restricted test record when policy permits. You can copy the image to the clipboard, close Snapshot, or save a PNG.

6. Name and attach the artifact consistently
A stable filename makes screenshots searchable and ties them to a test case. For example, use checkout-payment-2026-10-15-1440x900-full-page.png. Store the URL, Opera version, OS, viewport, zoom, color scheme, test build and capture mode alongside it, then link the artifact from the issue or test run. Keep the original and annotated files distinct.
When a full-page PNG is not the right artifact
Use visible-page capture for viewport-specific defects
A visible capture is preferable when the failure is tied to what a user sees above the fold, such as a clipped button at a particular viewport width, a navigation overlap or a browser-specific rendering defect. It avoids producing a very tall image that obscures the relevant area.

Use PDF for a complete, portable document
Save page as PDF is useful when reviewers need a top-to-bottom record that can be printed, searched or attached to a formal document. Pagination, print CSS, headers and footers can differ from on-screen pixels, so state in the test record that the artifact is a PDF export rather than a screenshot.
Use a separate viewport set for responsive testing
One full-page image does not prove that a layout works at other widths. Capture each required viewport separately and include the dimensions in the filename. Repeat the same page state, zoom and color scheme at every width so a comparison isolates the responsive change rather than capture conditions.
Automate Opera full-page screenshots with Opera Browser CLI
The official operasoftware/opera-browser-cli repository documents a screenshot command and a --full-page flag. It supports png, jpeg and webp output through --format. A representative invocation is:

Confirm the installed binary’s flags with its help output before putting the command in CI, because command-line options can change. The repository also documents viewport and emulation flags; use those to run the same URL at the widths, color schemes, network conditions or user agents your test matrix requires. The available documentation does not guarantee identical rendering for every page under every emulation setting, so validate the combinations that matter to your application.

A repeatable CI pattern
- Install and pin the Opera CLI version in the runner image.
- Start the application build and wait for its health check rather than capturing while the server is still compiling.
- Run one screenshot command per URL and viewport, writing files into a build-specific directory.
- Use a deterministic filename containing the route, viewport and build identifier.
- Publish the raw files as CI artifacts and run visual-diff tooling against a known baseline.
- Keep any annotations or redactions in a second directory so the baseline remains machine-comparable.
Automation cautions
- Authenticated pages need a controlled test account and a repeatable login or session setup; never place passwords or session tokens in command-line arguments that CI logs.
- Animations, rotating carousels, live clocks and ads can create pixel differences unrelated to a code change. Disable them in the test build or wait for a deterministic state.
- Lazy images may not load until the page is scrolled. Verify that the CLI’s full-page run includes the content your test expects.
- Record failures as well as successful images. A missing screenshot can indicate a navigation, certificate, resource or application error rather than a passing page.
Opera GX uses the same basic workflow
Opera GX’s official Snapshot page documents Ctrl+Shift+5 on Windows, Command+Shift+2 on Mac, and the toolbar Snapshot icon. It describes selecting visible-page or whole-page capture, editing with doodles or text, and then saving or sharing. If a team tests both Opera editions, record the edition and version because identical shortcuts do not prove identical rendering.
Fallbacks when Snapshot cannot capture the page
Try PDF plus viewport captures first
When the full-page menu is missing or the long image is unusable, export a PDF and capture the critical viewport sections. This combination preserves the complete content and the pixel evidence needed to discuss a defect.
Consider the Opera Add-ons Page Screenshot extension cautiously
Opera’s Add-ons catalog lists Page Screenshot as an extension that enables a full-page screenshot from a chosen website. The listing establishes that the feature exists, but it does not establish compatibility, maintenance quality, permissions or suitability for regulated evidence. Review permissions and test it on a non-sensitive page before relying on it.

Troubleshooting full-page captures

Reliability, traceability and cost decisions
Manual Snapshot
Snapshot is free and built into Opera, with no extension required for the normal workflow. It is ideal for an investigator who needs to inspect a page, mark a defect and attach evidence immediately. Its weakness is repeatability: a person must reproduce the same viewport, page state and timing.
PDF export
PDF is portable and convenient for a complete document, but print layout can differ from screen rendering. Record that it is a PDF export and pair it with viewport images when the claim depends on exact pixels.
CLI automation
CLI capture adds repeatability and supports PNG, JPEG and WebP. It is appropriate for regression suites and many URLs, but it requires a maintained runner, pinned versions and controls for dynamic content. No current primary source supplies a universal speed, success-rate or rendering benchmark, so measure your own pages if throughput matters.

What should I submit when a bug report needs both screen pixels and the complete page?
Keep an untouched full-page PNG when available, add viewport PNGs for the defective state, and include a PDF only when a paginated, top-to-bottom document is useful.
Can I use the same shortcuts in Opera GX?
Opera GX documents Ctrl+Shift+5 on Windows and Command+Shift+2 on Mac, plus the toolbar Snapshot icon. Record the edition and version in the test metadata.
