On PS5, the documented way to capture a GTA 6 screenshot is to use the console’s DualSense Create menu and choose Take Screenshot. You can then share the image from Recently created or Media Gallery, send eligible captures to PlayStation App, or copy them to a USB drive. These are PS5 system features—not confirmed GTA 6-specific controls. As of October 13, 2026, PlayStation lists GTA 6 for release on November 19, 2026, so the game has not yet launched.

What you can do now—and what is confirmed for GTA 6

Rockstar has not documented a GTA 6-specific screenshot button, photo mode, or in-game sharing workflow in the official materials reviewed for this guide. The steps below explain how to use PS5’s own capture tools once you are playing; they do not establish that GTA 6 has a photo mode or special screenshot features. Rockstar’s official GTA VI media page is a separate way to view or download images, but those are publisher-provided promotional assets, not screenshots you take during play.

Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. PlayStation’s GTA VI page gives a November 19, 2026 release date for PS5 and PS5 Pro and says the game will not be available for PS4. This guide is dated October 13, 2026; check current platform information closer to launch because release details and console interfaces can change.

That distinction matters when following instructions online. A screenshot captured with the console’s system tools is a picture of what is on screen; it does not depend on a game-specific photo mode. A Rockstar-posted image, by contrast, comes from the publisher’s media page. The official page currently offers a convenient way to download and share its media and artwork, but it is not a place to upload or retrieve your personal PS5 captures.

The available console instructions are also not interchangeable. The steps below are documented for PS5. Xbox Series X|S is a confirmed platform, but the Xbox capture controls and transfer details described in this guide have not been verified. If you play on Xbox, use current Xbox Support instructions rather than trying to translate the PlayStation button names.

How to take a screenshot on PS5

  1. While playing, press the Create button on the DualSense controller to open the Create menu.
  2. Choose Take Screenshot. The Create menu provides capture options. Button behavior can be customized in PS5 capture settings, so a particular press or hold shortcut should not be assumed to work for every player.
  3. Open the capture through the Recently created card or find it later in Media Gallery.

This is the PS5’s system-level capture workflow. It does not depend on a confirmed GTA 6 photo mode, and the available official information does not say whether GTA 6 will add its own capture controls. If you want to frame a scene, use whatever camera or pause options the game actually provides at launch; do not assume an unannounced mode exists.

For the most straightforward documented route, use the Create menu itself and select Take Screenshot. That avoids relying on a remembered shortcut that may not match your own button configuration. PlayStation’s PS5 capture guide explains that capture options are available through Create and that the button behavior can be configured. If you change a shortcut, follow the setting shown on your console rather than assuming every player uses the same press or hold pattern.

After taking the image, the next task is finding it. Use the Recently created card for a capture you just made, or return to Media Gallery to locate it later. These are the documented places to open a screenshot for sharing or exporting. The available guidance does not establish any GTA 6-specific gallery, Rockstar account library, or in-game destination for your personal captures.

Capturing and sharing are separate actions: selecting Take Screenshot makes the console capture, while sending, saving to a phone, or copying to USB happens afterward. You do not need a USB drive just to take a screenshot, and you do not have to use the PlayStation App if you prefer to share from the console.

How to share a PS5 screenshot from the console

  1. Open the capture from Recently created or Media Gallery.
  2. Select the screenshot and choose Share.
  3. Choose an available destination or recipient, then send the image.

PlayStation’s sharing guide says you can share up to four screenshots in one action. This is a limit for that sharing action, not a statement about the total number of images you can keep in Media Gallery. The destination choices shown to you depend on the console’s available sharing options and your account setup.

If you have several images to send, select no more than four for a single sharing action, then repeat the process for additional screenshots if needed. The four-image figure comes from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PS5 screenshot and video sharing support guide, accessed October 9, 2026. It describes how many screenshots can be shared together; it should not be read as a gallery capacity, storage limit, or limit on the number of separate sharing actions.

The recipient or destination is selected from the choices available on your console. Those choices can depend on your account and the sharing options currently offered by the system, so the steps here do not promise that a particular social network or service will appear for every player. If a destination is missing, use another available route—for example, PlayStation App for eligible captures where supported, or USB export from Media Gallery.

Before sending, make sure you have opened the intended image in Recently created or Media Gallery. This is especially useful when you have taken several screenshots in succession: the console gallery is where you select the actual capture, and the Share command starts the sending step. PlayStation documents up to four screenshots per sharing action, but the reviewed guide does not establish a GTA 6-specific sharing menu or a Rockstar-operated social feed.

How to get PS5 captures onto a phone

PlayStation App can receive eligible PS5 game captures through automatic upload in supported regions. Once a capture appears in the app, you can save it to your device or share it from there. PlayStation says app-uploaded captures remain available for 14 days after capture; treat this as a window to download or share, not as permanent phone storage.

Set up automatic uploads

  1. Link the PS5 to PlayStation App.
  2. Enable PS5 game captures in the app and turn on auto-upload in the console’s capture settings.
  3. Configure the console to remain connected while in Rest Mode, as required for this workflow.
  4. After an eligible capture uploads, open PlayStation App and go to Library > Captures.
  5. Choose the capture to save it to the phone or share it from the app.

Feature availability varies by country or region, and the app workflow applies to eligible captures—not necessarily every capture type or every account. If a screenshot does not appear, first check regional availability and that the console, app, upload setting, and Rest Mode connection are configured. If you cannot use the feature in your region, sharing from the console or copying the image to USB are alternative documented paths.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

PlayStation’s support page for PS5 game captures in PlayStation App, accessed October 9, 2026, gives the 14-day availability period. That period is specifically for eligible captures uploaded through this feature; it is not a universal promise that every screenshot, account, or regional app setup works the same way. Once the image is available in Library > Captures, download it to your device if you want a copy on your phone, or use the app’s sharing option.

There are several setup dependencies, so troubleshoot them one at a time if an image is missing: the PS5 must be linked to the app, the relevant capture feature must be enabled in the app, auto-upload must be turned on in the console’s capture settings, and the console must be configured to remain connected in Rest Mode. The capture must also be eligible, and the feature must be supported in your country or region. Meeting those conditions does not change the 14-day availability period.

Think of the app as a convenient transfer and sharing path, not as permanent archive storage. If you want to keep a capture, save it to your phone while it is available. If you do not want to use the app, the console’s Share option and USB copying provide separate documented alternatives.

How to copy screenshots to a USB drive

A USB drive is optional; it is not needed to take a screenshot or use the console’s sharing feature. To export a capture, connect a USB drive, open Media Gallery, select the screenshot, and choose the option to copy it to the connected drive. The documented workflow establishes copying from Media Gallery; it does not specify a required drive capacity or file format, so check the console’s current on-screen instructions if the drive is not recognized.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This route is for moving a capture off the console onto external storage. It is useful if you want a separate copy rather than relying on the PlayStation App’s 14-day availability window, but the drive is not part of the screenshot-taking process. Start in Media Gallery, select the image you want, and use the copy option offered for the connected USB drive.

The PlayStation support documentation confirms that Media Gallery can copy captures to a connected USB drive. It does not establish a particular capacity, model, file format, or set of drive requirements in the material covered here. If the console does not recognize your drive or the copy option is unavailable, follow the current on-screen instructions or consult PlayStation Support rather than assuming a specific technical specification.

Where to find official GTA 6 images

If you want images before the game launches, visit Rockstar Games’ official GTA VI Screenshots media page. As of October 9, 2026, the page listed 99 screenshots and offered a ZIP download. These are Rockstar-published promotional images, not player-created captures. Rockstar describes its media and artwork as downloadable and shareable; use the publisher’s page rather than presenting those assets as screenshots taken in-game.

The gallery is the right option if your goal is simply to browse or download published GTA VI imagery. It is different from pressing Create during a play session: the images on Rockstar’s page are promotional assets supplied by Rockstar, not captures from your console. The page’s ZIP option is a way to download the listed media, not a method of transferring your own PS5 screenshots to a phone or computer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The count of 99 refers to the Rockstar Games GTA VI screenshots page as accessed October 9, 2026. The page may change, so treat that number as a dated count rather than a permanent total. Rockstar’s description of its media and artwork as downloadable and shareable applies to those published assets; it does not establish a way to upload personal captures or share them through a Rockstar service.

What about Xbox Series X|S?

GTA 6 is listed for Xbox Series X|S, but the official material covered here does not establish the Xbox capture button sequence, where the console stores captures, how sharing works, or any app-transfer or retention details. For those steps, consult current Xbox Support instructions for your console rather than applying PS5 button names or assuming the workflows match. No GTA 6-specific Xbox capture feature is confirmed here.

This means there is not enough verified information here for a complete PS5-versus-Xbox comparison. The confirmed PS5 workflow uses the DualSense Create menu, offers capture access through Recently created or Media Gallery, allows up to four screenshots in a sharing action, and supports the app and USB options described above. The sources reviewed do not establish corresponding Xbox details for those same comparison points. Do not infer Xbox button sequences, storage locations, transfer availability, or retention periods from the PS5 instructions.

If you play on Xbox, look for current Xbox Support instructions for your console and check them again near launch. GTA 6’s Xbox platform listing does not by itself confirm a game-specific photo mode, special screenshot controls, or a Rockstar sharing service. The same caution applies to any cross-console guide that claims the steps are identical without documentation.

Save or share on a phone Enable eligible-capture auto-upload, then open PlayStation App > Library > Captures Regional availability varies; app availability is 14 days after capture.

Capture on Xbox Series X|S Not established by the official material covered here Check current Xbox Support instructions; do not use unverified button directions.

The options serve different needs. Use the console’s Share command when you want to send an image from PS5 through an available destination. Use PlayStation App if you want an eligible capture on a phone and the feature works in your region; save it within the stated 14-day window. Use USB when you want to copy a capture from Media Gallery to external storage. Browse Rockstar’s media page when you want existing promotional images rather than a personal in-game screenshot.

Common snags and what to check

  • The Create button does not behave as expected: Open the Create menu and choose Take Screenshot rather than relying on a remembered shortcut. Capture-button behavior can be customized.
  • You cannot find the image: Check Recently created and then Media Gallery, the two documented places to select a PS5 capture for sharing or export.
  • The screenshot is not in PlayStation App: Confirm that the PS5 is linked to the app, PS5 game captures and auto-upload are enabled, and the console can remain connected in Rest Mode. Also check whether the feature is supported in your region and whether the capture is eligible.
  • The app capture is no longer available: PlayStation states a 14-day availability period for eligible uploaded captures. Save the image to the phone or share it from the app within that period.
  • You need a copy that is not dependent on app availability: Copy the capture from Media Gallery to a connected USB drive, or use the console’s Share option where available.
  • You are looking for an in-game photo mode: Rockstar’s reviewed official materials do not confirm one. The Create menu is a PS5 system feature, not evidence of a GTA 6 photo mode.

For an app-transfer problem, check the setup in order rather than repeatedly trying to upload: verify the console-app link, app capture setting, console auto-upload setting, Rest Mode connection, regional support, and capture eligibility. For a missing console capture, look in the two documented places before assuming it was not saved. For a drive problem, use the console’s current on-screen prompts; the documentation here does not define a universal USB capacity or format.

If the issue is that you cannot find a GTA 6 photo mode, the answer is not to use a different PS5 shortcut. No photo mode is confirmed in the reviewed Rockstar materials. Likewise, if you are on Xbox, do not apply the Create-button instructions: they are PS5 system directions, and the reviewed official Xbox steps have not been established here.

What to verify after launch

GTA 6’s scheduled launch is November 19, 2026, so details specific to the finished game may be announced or documented later. For a game-specific photo mode, special capture controls, or Rockstar account-based screenshot sharing, look for confirmation in Rockstar’s own game documentation or support channels. Until then, the reliable instructions here are the PS5 system capture and transfer methods, and the Xbox steps should come from Xbox Support.

Also recheck platform availability and the relevant PlayStation or Xbox support pages if you are reading this later. The PS5 steps explain how to make and move system captures, but game updates and console-menu changes could alter the current route. App eligibility and its stated availability period are platform details, not a guarantee that every capture will upload in every region. Rockstar’s media page is separately useful for publisher-provided images, and its listed image count may change.

Mary Yee, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, wrote in a PlayStation Blog post dated June 24, 2026: “Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19.” That statement concerns the PS5 experience and scheduled launch; it does not announce a screenshot shortcut or confirm a photo mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I take a screenshot in GTA 6 on PS5?

Use the PS5 system capture workflow: press the DualSense Create button, choose Take Screenshot, then open the image from Recently created or Media Gallery. This documents a PS5 console feature, not a GTA 6-specific control.

Does GTA 6 have a photo mode or special screenshot button?

The reviewed official Rockstar materials do not confirm a GTA 6 photo mode, special screenshot controls, or an in-game sharing workflow. Check Rockstar’s game documentation or support channels for any post-launch confirmation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How many PS5 screenshots can I share at once?

PlayStation’s PS5 sharing guide says up to four screenshots can be shared in one action. It is not a limit on how many captures you can keep or how many separate sharing actions you can make.

Can I send a GTA 6 screenshot to my phone?

Eligible PS5 captures can appear in PlayStation App when the feature is supported in your region and auto-upload is configured. Find them under Library > Captures, then save to your device or share from the app. PlayStation states a 14-day availability period for eligible uploaded captures.

Do I need a USB drive to take or share screenshots?

No. A USB drive is optional and is used to copy captures from Media Gallery to external storage. You can take a screenshot through the Create menu and share from the console without one.

How do I take a screenshot in GTA 6 on Xbox Series X|S?

The Xbox capture button sequence and transfer details were not established by the official materials reviewed for this guide. Follow current Xbox Support instructions rather than using PS5 button directions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are Rockstar’s GTA VI screenshots player captures?

No. Rockstar’s official GTA VI Screenshots page offers publisher-published promotional images. As of October 9, 2026, it listed 99 screenshots and offered a ZIP download; those images are distinct from screenshots captured during your own play session.

The Bottom Line

On PS5, take a system screenshot from the DualSense Create menu, then share it from Recently created or Media Gallery. PlayStation App offers a phone route for eligible captures in supported regions, with a 14-day availability period, and USB copying is an optional export path. Rockstar’s media page offers promotional images, not your personal captures. GTA 6-specific photo mode and Xbox capture steps are not confirmed here.
