To save a public article as one long image, open it in Firefox, choose Take Screenshot, then select Save full page. Use Chrome DevTools to capture a selected page element beyond the viewport, or Chrome Headless for a command-line screenshot or PDF. Check the saved file and keep the article URL and capture date with it: a screenshot records how the page rendered, but does not by itself verify the article’s author, original publication date, or the video’s authenticity.
Choose an image or a PDF
| Format | Best for | Consider |
|---|---|---|
| Full-page screenshot image | Preserving the page’s visual appearance in a single tall image. | Long pages can be difficult to read at a glance; inspect the file for missing or repeated content. |
| Saving a page in a document format that is easier to open, share, or print. | Printing may lay out the page differently from its on-screen appearance. |
For a public article about a viral video, choose based on what you need to retain: the screenshot captures a rendering of the page, while a PDF is a document-style output. Neither format alone proves that the video is genuine or that the article has not changed.
Capture the full page in Firefox
Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot control
- Open the public article in Firefox and allow its headline, text, and relevant media to load.
- Open Firefox’s Take Screenshot tool.
- Select Save full page, rather than Save visible, which captures only the currently displayed area.
- Save the resulting image and open it to check that the article content you need is present.
Mozilla documents these two capture choices in its Firefox screenshot instructions. The exact location or availability of browser controls can vary by Firefox version.

Use Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools offers another route: enable the Take a screenshot of the entire page toolbar button in Settings under Available Toolbox Buttons. The Web Console also documents the :screenshot helper with the --fullpage option. See Firefox Developer Tools screenshot documentation for the current details.

Capture a page or element in Chrome
Capture a selected element
Chrome DevTools can capture a selected page node, including content that extends below the visible viewport. This is useful when the article is part of a larger page and you want to capture a particular element rather than the whole page. In DevTools, inspect and select the relevant element, then use Capture node screenshot. Chrome’s documentation describes this workflow alongside its Headless options: Chrome Headless command-line reference.
Use Chrome Headless for a full-page image
For a command-line capture, Chrome Headless documents --screenshot and --window-size. Set a viewport large enough for the page content you intend to capture, then inspect the resulting image; do not assume the command will include every lazy-loaded or dynamically added section.

chrome --headless --screenshot --window-size=1440,3000 "https://example.com/article"
Replace the example URL with the public article’s URL. The window size sets the browser viewport; it is not a guarantee that every page will fit into a single complete image. The Headless documentation also covers platform-specific invocation and options.

Chrome Headless supports PDF output with --print-to-pdf. Add --timeout to set a maximum wait before capture, including when the page is still loading:

chrome --headless --print-to-pdf="article.pdf" --timeout=10000 "https://example.com/article"
Use a timeout appropriate to the page; the value shown is an example in milliseconds, not a universal recommended wait. PDF printing can produce a different layout from the screen view, so open the file and check it.
Check and preserve the capture
- Confirm the headline, article body, and relevant video or still image appear in the saved output.
- For long or dynamic pages, look for sections that are missing, duplicated, or captured before they finished loading.
- Save the article URL and the date you captured it alongside the image or PDF, for example in the filename or a separate note.
- If the page matters as a record, retain the original file rather than relying only on a cropped or annotated copy.
Page behavior can vary: delayed media, lazy-loaded images, and other dynamic content may not appear identically in every capture. A screenshot or PDF preserves the appearance captured at that moment; it does not establish who authored the article, when it was first published, or whether its claims about the viral video are true. Browser capture documentation also does not establish legal admissibility.

Troubleshooting common capture problems
The image shows only the visible area
In Firefox, choose Save full page, not Save visible. In Chrome, check that you used the intended DevTools node capture or Headless screenshot workflow rather than a normal viewport screenshot.
Some article content or media is missing
Wait for the page and relevant media to load before capture, then inspect the output. A page may load content dynamically or only as you scroll, and the documented browser tools do not guarantee that every site’s behavior will be captured completely. If needed, try the Firefox full-page control or capture the relevant element with Chrome DevTools.

The Headless PDF is incomplete
The page may still have been loading when capture began. Adjust the --timeout value and try again, then inspect the PDF for missing content. The timeout controls how long Headless waits; it does not guarantee that a slow or dynamic page will finish loading.
The command is not recognized
The examples assume a Chrome executable is available to your shell as chrome. If your installation uses a different executable name or path, invoke that installed Chrome binary instead. Consult Chrome’s Headless documentation for the options and invocation details applicable to your setup.
Or skip the browser setup
