Cancel through the seller that charged you. PlayStation Store and Xbox Store pre-orders are governed by their respective platform policies; a physical GTA VI pre-order from the Rockstar Store uses Xsolla’s cancellation process; and an order from any other retailer must be cancelled with that retailer. Rockstar cannot cancel a third-party order.
The current Rockstar Store listing shows a $79.99 pre-order for a physical code-in-box edition. Rockstar lists pre-load from November 12, 2026, while Take-Two has announced a November 19, 2026 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those dates matter because cancellation eligibility can depend on how close you are to release and whether digital content has already been downloaded or streamed.
Find the correct refund authority first
Look at the receipt, bank statement or console transaction history and identify the business that actually charged the payment. The game’s publisher does not automatically control every order. Use this map before opening a support ticket:

Check these details before submitting a request
Gather the information that determines which rule applies. Having it ready prevents a support agent from sending you to the wrong company or rejecting a request because the order cannot be located.

- Seller and transaction ID: Use the order number from the receipt, not only a bank authorization code.
- Platform and account: Note whether the purchase is tied to a PlayStation Network account, Xbox account, Rockstar account or an outside retailer account.
- Format: A digital pre-order is delivered through a storefront. The Rockstar Store physical edition is a code-in-box product, not a disc.
- Payment date: Platform policies can measure a cancellation window from the date you paid and the announced release date.
- Digital activity: Record whether you downloaded, pre-loaded or streamed any included digital content. On PlayStation, that activity can remove pre-order cancellation eligibility.
- Country or region: Store terms are not universal. A rule published for Canada should not be treated as the rule for the United States, the United Kingdom or another country.
Do not redeem a code, start a download or begin streaming while you are deciding whether to cancel. The cited PlayStation policy expressly makes digital downloading or streaming relevant to eligibility. Other sellers may apply their own conditions.
Cancel a PlayStation Store digital pre-order
PlayStation is the refund authority for a purchase made in the PlayStation Store. Rockstar’s support material does not replace the PlayStation Store cancellation policy, so use the terms shown for the country attached to your account.
Use PlayStation’s order and support flow
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that placed the GTA VI pre-order.
- Open your account’s order or transaction history and select the GTA VI pre-order.
- Choose the available pre-order cancellation or refund option. If the option is not displayed, open PlayStation Support’s order-support flow and submit the transaction details.
- State the purchase date, announced release date, whether any download or streaming started, and that you are requesting cancellation before release.
- Save the confirmation number and any message that states the decision or the reason for refusal.
Understand the Canadian example without applying it worldwide
PlayStation’s Canada cancellation policy, accessed October 17, 2026, says: “Paid for your pre-order more than 14 days before the main product release date you may cancel a pre-order at any time before the release date and receive a refund.” The same policy framework makes eligibility conditional when included digital content has been downloaded or streamed. This is a Canadian policy statement, not a universal PlayStation promise.

If your account is in another country, read that country’s PlayStation Store terms in the support flow. The relevant facts are the local rule, the date you paid, the date the product is scheduled to release and whether digital access began. Do not rely on the Canadian 14-day wording simply because your console is a PlayStation 5.
If PlayStation rejects the request
Ask support to identify the specific condition that failed: regional terms, the payment date, release timing or digital activity. Keep the transaction record and the support case number. If a download or stream started, explain exactly when and what content was used; do not claim that the order remained untouched if it did not.
Cancel an Xbox Store digital pre-order
For an Xbox Store purchase, start with Xbox Support. Rockstar’s published guidance names Xbox Support as the channel but does not publish one worldwide deadline or a single download rule that applies to every account.

Submit the Xbox request
- Sign in to the Microsoft account used for the Xbox purchase.
- Open the account’s order history and locate the GTA VI transaction.
- Use the order’s cancellation or refund path when it is offered. If it is unavailable, contact Xbox Support and provide the order number, payment date, country and requested outcome.
- Tell the agent whether pre-load, download or streaming has started. Ask which country-specific rule they are applying and what deadline controls the request.
- Keep the case reference and the written decision.
Xbox must confirm your eligibility before you treat the refund as approved. The available Rockstar guidance does not establish a universal Xbox deadline, and the result can vary with account region, the current Xbox policy and digital activity.
Cancel a physical pre-order made in the Rockstar Store
The Rockstar Store physical edition is a code-in-box product. Rockstar lists it at $79.99, and the box contains no game disc. You receive a download code, so changing from this edition to another physical order does not create disc playback.
Use the Xsolla cancellation route
- Find the Rockstar Store order confirmation and verify that Rockstar Store, rather than another retailer, charged the order.
- Open Rockstar Games Customer Support’s instructions for physical pre-order cancellation.
- Follow the Xsolla cancellation link supplied by Rockstar and enter the order details requested there.
- Submit the cancellation before dispatch or any other deadline shown in the Xsolla flow, then save the confirmation.
- If the form cannot find the order, check that you are using the same email address and order number shown on the Rockstar receipt before contacting Rockstar Support.
Rockstar’s customer-support statement dated June 24, 2026 says that a physical copy pre-ordered from the Rockstar Store can be cancelled by following the linked steps. That instruction is specific to Rockstar Store physical orders; it is not a method for cancelling a purchase made at a different shop.
Cancel a physical or digital order from another retailer
Contact the retailer that accepted payment. Rockstar’s June 26, 2026 customer-support statement says, “Physical pre-order cancellations are handled by the retailer where you purchased the game.” Provide the retailer with its order number, the account email and a clear request to cancel the GTA VI pre-order before release.
Do not ask Rockstar to reverse a third-party transaction: Rockstar cannot access that retailer’s payment, inventory or shipping system. If the seller has a self-service cancellation page, use it first; otherwise use the seller’s support channel and retain the case number. The retailer’s own country terms and payment rules determine whether a refund is available.
Rockstar-operated digital purchases and the 14-day policy
Rockstar’s refund policy covers qualifying digital purchases made through the Rockstar Games Store, Rockstar Games Launcher or a Rockstar-operated PC in-game store. It states that eligible digital purchases can be refunded within 14 days, subject to the conditions in that policy.

This is a separate route from a PlayStation Store or Xbox Store order. A console storefront is the merchant of record for its transaction, so Rockstar’s 14-day digital wording does not automatically transfer to those platforms. Likewise, an order placed with an unrelated retailer follows that retailer’s terms.
What to include in the Rockstar request
- The Rockstar account email and order number.
- The date and store through which the digital purchase was made.
- The product name and platform.
- Whether the product was downloaded, launched or otherwise used.
- The reason you are requesting cancellation and the payment method used.
Submit the request within the stated 14-day period when possible. Rockstar still evaluates the policy conditions, so the time limit alone is not a guarantee of approval.
Timing around the GTA VI release
Rockstar’s store listing gives November 12, 2026 as the start of digital pre-load. Take-Two Interactive’s announcement gives November 19, 2026 as the launch date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A pre-order request made before those dates is not automatically eligible or ineligible: the seller’s regional policy, payment date and digital activity control.
Pre-load is a download, even though the game cannot be played before launch. Because PlayStation’s cited policy treats downloading or streaming as relevant, avoid starting a pre-load if you may cancel. On Xbox, ask support how its current policy treats pre-load for your account and country rather than assuming the PlayStation rule applies.
What happens after you cancel
When the seller approves the request
The seller should provide a confirmation that the order was cancelled and that a refund was initiated. Keep that message until the payment has been credited. If the order used a wallet balance, gift balance or a card, the destination and posting time can depend on the seller’s payment system.
When the seller says the order is not refundable
Request the exact policy condition and the transaction details used in the decision. Check that the agent has the correct country, payment date, product format and account. A refusal from one merchant does not create a right to a refund from another merchant: PlayStation, Xbox, Rockstar/Xsolla and an outside retailer each evaluate their own orders.

When you are sent to another company
Follow the merchant-of-record trail shown by the receipt. A PlayStation charge goes to PlayStation Support, an Xbox charge goes to Xbox Support, a Rockstar Store physical charge goes through Xsolla’s Rockstar-linked flow, and an unrelated retail charge goes back to that retailer. Include the first support case when you are redirected so you do not have to repeat the entire history.

- Using the wrong storefront: Opening a Rockstar ticket for a PlayStation, Xbox or third-party order cannot replace that seller’s cancellation process.
- Assuming every country has the same rule: The quoted 14-day-before-release language is from Canada’s PlayStation policy only.
- Ignoring digital activity: Downloading, pre-loading or streaming can change eligibility, particularly under PlayStation’s stated conditions.
- Confusing the physical box with a disc: The Rockstar Store edition is code-in-box. Cancelling it and buying another physical edition still results in a digital download rather than disc playback.
- Waiting for launch: The announced launch is November 19, 2026. A request made after release may be handled under a different rule than a pre-release cancellation.
- Deleting the receipt: Support needs the order identity, and a bank statement alone may not show the account or product format.
Decision examples
You paid on PlayStation and have not downloaded anything
Use the PlayStation order-support flow, select the country attached to your account and check the local pre-order terms. In Canada, payment more than 14 days before the November 19 release can meet the quoted timing condition, provided the other requirements are met.
You bought the Rockstar Store code-in-box edition
Use Rockstar’s Xsolla cancellation link, not PlayStation or Xbox support. Confirm that the receipt is from Rockstar Store and that the order number matches the Xsolla form.
You bought from a games retailer
Contact that retailer. Rockstar cannot cancel the transaction, even though Rockstar publishes the game and the box carries a GTA VI code.
You bought a digital copy through a Rockstar-operated PC store
Use Rockstar’s digital refund policy and submit within 14 days if the purchase qualifies. Include any download or use information so support can apply the policy conditions.

There is no published universal Xbox cancellation deadline in the available official guidance, no independent refund-success rate and no statistic for the number of GTA VI cancellations. Treat claims that promise every Xbox customer a refund or quote a guaranteed approval percentage as unsupported unless Xbox or the relevant retailer confirms them for your account and country.

Can Rockstar cancel my PlayStation or Xbox pre-order?
No. A PlayStation Store purchase is handled by PlayStation, and an Xbox Store purchase is handled by Xbox. Rockstar’s support guidance refers customers to those storefronts.
Does the $79.99 Rockstar Store price include a disc?
No. The listed physical edition is code-in-box and contains no disc. The game is downloaded using the code.

What if I bought the physical code-in-box edition from a retailer other than Rockstar?
