To stop Netflix from renewing, sign in, open Manage your membership, select Cancel, and finish with Finish Cancellation. Then check Netflix’s confirmation email and Payment History to verify the cancellation and account end date. Signing out or deleting the app does not cancel a membership.
The key is to complete the cancellation with the company that bills you, then verify the end date in the account or provider records. If another charge appears, first check whether the membership was restarted and whether Netflix or a billing partner processed it. Those checks help distinguish a missed final step, a restarted account, and a charge that needs to be discussed with the biller.
Cancel Netflix directly through your account

Sign in to the Netflix account you want to cancel. Make sure you are looking at the account whose membership and charges you intend to stop; an account used on a particular television or phone is not necessarily the account that controls the billing arrangement.

Open Manage your membership and select Cancel.

Select Finish Cancellation to complete the process. Do not stop after selecting Cancel: the final step is required. Netflix describes this completed account process as the way to cancel a membership and end it.

Look for Netflix’s confirmation email, then check Payment History for the date the account is scheduled to close.
Think of the confirmation step and the record check as two separate safeguards. Finish Cancellation completes the request; the email provides a confirmation to look for, and Payment History helps you see the scheduled close date. If you are trying to avoid another renewal, do not rely only on having opened the cancellation screen or selected Cancel—complete the final step and verify the result.
Netflix’s Help Center says signing out or deleting the Netflix app does not cancel an account. Removing Netflix from a television, phone, or other device likewise is not a substitute for completing cancellation in the account or with the billing provider. Those actions affect access on a device, not the membership billing arrangement. Netflix’s cancellation instructions state: “This is the only way to cancel your account and end your membership. Signing out of your account or deleting the Netflix app doesn’t cancel your account.” (Netflix Help Center, accessed October 9, 2026.)
If Netflix does not show a cancellation option
Your membership may be billed through another company, which can control where cancellation must be completed. Open the account’s Membership section and follow the cancellation link or instructions shown there. If the Netflix account does not offer a cancellation control, that is a reason to check the listed billing arrangement rather than assuming that signing out, deleting the app, or removing a payment method has ended the membership.
There are two practical paths: direct Netflix billing and third-party billing. The right path depends on who bills the account. For direct billing, complete the cancellation in Netflix and check Netflix Payment History. For third-party billing, use the provider’s linked instructions and check that provider’s account records and support for billing questions. Netflix’s Membership section is the place to identify the route available for your account.

For an Apple-billed membership, Netflix’s Apple guidance says to cancel through Apple. It warns that cancellation must occur more than 24 hours before renewal to avoid renewal under Apple’s policy. That timing guidance is specific to Apple billing; check the relevant provider’s terms rather than applying it to other billing partners. The 24-hour note is not a universal Netflix cancellation deadline, so do not assume it applies to direct Netflix billing or another provider.
When the account uses a partner, keep the two records distinct. Netflix can show membership information, while the partner’s account may show its own billing date, payment history, or cancellation status. Netflix says third-party billing dates can differ from Netflix’s date. If the dates or descriptions do not line up, use the provider’s account and statement to identify the charge and ask the provider handling the billing. Do not infer that the charge is invalid just because its date differs from the date shown in Netflix.
Confirm when access ends and when billing stops
If you cancel with time remaining in the current billing period, Netflix says you can generally continue watching until that period ends. The account then closes automatically. Cancellation stops a future renewal; it does not necessarily end viewing immediately. Use Payment History to check the scheduled account-close date.

This distinction matters when you are deciding whether the cancellation worked. Continued access after you cancel is not, by itself, proof that the membership is still set to renew: remaining paid time can continue through the end of the billing period. Conversely, access to Netflix on a device does not establish that billing has stopped. Use the confirmation email and the scheduled date in Payment History as the checks, rather than treating device access or app presence as a billing status indicator.
Netflix says its ordinary billing date corresponds to the day you signed up. The date can appear one day earlier because of time-zone differences. If the billing day is the 31st, Netflix shifts the charge to the last day of a shorter month. A third-party provider may use a different billing date, so its statement and Netflix’s account records may not show the same cycle.
As a result, compare like with like: look at the Netflix payment record for a Netflix-billed account, and at the provider’s account or statement for a provider-billed account. A one-day difference can be consistent with Netflix’s time-zone explanation, and a shorter month can change a scheduled day-of-month charge. A partner may also have a separate billing cycle. These timing details are useful context when you review a charge, but the account or provider record is still the place to verify the membership’s scheduled status.

What to do if a charge appears after cancellation

Check Netflix’s account and Payment History to see whether the membership is active again. Netflix says a charge after cancellation can mean someone using the account restarted it. A canceled account may show a restart option, so do not treat a later charge as proof of a particular cause until you check the account status and billing record.

If the account has restarted, cancel it again at netflix.com/cancelplan. Complete the cancellation rather than stopping partway through, and look for the confirmation email and scheduled close date afterward.

Change the Netflix password. In the account security options, select Sign out of all devices so someone with access cannot use a signed-in device to restart the membership. Netflix recommends these steps after cancellation when an account appears to have been restarted.

If a provider bills you, check that provider’s account and contact its support about the charge. The provider may control both billing records and the steps for resolving a charge. If the account is billed directly by Netflix, check Payment History and contact Netflix support if the status or charge remains unexplained.

Netflix’s Help Center says of a charge after cancellation: “Your account will close at the end of your current billing cycle, and you won’t be charged again.” If you see a charge despite having canceled, use the account-status and billing-provider checks above to understand what happened; the statement does not establish that every charge appearing after a cancellation was processed in the same circumstances. Refund eligibility depends on the billing arrangement and circumstances. Netflix’s guidance for Xfinity-billed accounts says Netflix cannot provide refunds for accounts billed through a third party. That statement is specific to the cited Xfinity guidance and should not be treated as a refund ruling for every provider or case. For a partner-billed account, contact the provider about its charge and any available resolution. For a Netflix-billed account, direct the question to Netflix. Do not assume a refund will be issued—or denied—without checking the responsible biller’s guidance for the account.
Common cancellation mistakes to avoid

Stopping before the final confirmation: Complete Finish Cancellation, then check for the confirmation email and scheduled close date.

Deleting the app or signing out: Neither action ends the membership. Uninstalling Netflix from a device or removing it from a television does not replace account or provider cancellation.

Looking only at Netflix when a partner bills you: Check the Membership section for the provider’s cancellation path and verify charges with that provider.

Assuming cancellation ends access immediately: Remaining paid time can continue through the end of the billing period. Use Payment History to check the scheduled account-close date.

Assuming a later charge proves cancellation failed: Check whether the account was restarted and confirm which company billed the charge before deciding what happened.

Applying Apple’s timing rule to every membership: Netflix’s more-than-24-hours-before-renewal warning is Apple-specific. Check the terms and cancellation path for the actual billing provider.

Assuming Netflix and a partner use the same billing cycle: Provider dates can differ from Netflix’s date. Compare the relevant provider record with Netflix Payment History instead of relying on one date alone.

Assuming a particular support team can resolve every charge: For direct billing, start with Netflix. For third-party billing, check the provider account and contact that provider about its billing records and charge process.
A quick verification checklist
Before you consider the task complete, make sure you can answer these questions:

If a later charge appears, have you checked whether the membership restarted and matched the charge to the company that billed it?
If the account restarted, cancel it again and change the password, including signing out of all devices. If a provider bills you, follow the provider’s cancellation route and discuss the charge with that provider. These steps address the two main sources of confusion: a cancellation that was not completed with the biller, and a membership that was restarted after cancellation.

How do I cancel Netflix so I do not get charged again?
Sign in to the Netflix account, open Manage your membership, select Cancel, and complete the process with Finish Cancellation. Check for Netflix’s confirmation email and the scheduled close date in Payment History. If the account has no cancellation option, use the cancellation instructions in the Membership section to cancel through the billing partner.

Does deleting the Netflix app cancel my membership?
No. Netflix says signing out or deleting the app does not cancel the account. Complete the cancellation in Netflix or with the billing provider, depending on who bills the membership.
Can I keep watching Netflix after I cancel?
