To cancel HBO Max, first check which company bills your subscription, then cancel through that company. If HBO Max bills you directly, use HBOMax.com/subscription. If Apple, Google Play, Samsung, Roku, Amazon, or a TV, internet, or mobile provider bills you, cancel through that provider instead. Removing the app does not stop billing.
Cancel HBO Max in five steps

Find who bills you
Sign in at HBOMax.com/subscription, or open HBO Max and select your profile, then Subscription. On a TV device, open Settings and select Subscription. The billing company appears at the top of the screen. If you still cannot identify the charge, check your bank statement or ask your internet, mobile, or TV provider.

Choose the cancellation route for that biller
If the account says HBO Max bills you directly, continue at HBOMax.com/subscription. If it names another company, use that company’s account or support channel. An absent cancellation option in HBO Max usually means the subscription must be canceled with the listed biller.

Cancel through the biller
For a direct HBO Max subscription, select Cancel Your Subscription and follow the confirmation prompts. For other subscriptions, use the matching route below:

- Apple: Open the Apple Account’s Subscriptions settings and cancel HBO Max there.
- Google Play: In the Play Store, open Payments & subscriptions and manage the HBO Max subscription.
- Samsung: Use Samsung Checkout’s Purchase History > Subscriptions.
- Roku or Amazon: Manage the subscription through the relevant Roku or Amazon account when that service is the biller and the option is available in your market.
- Internet, mobile, or TV provider: Use the provider’s account, help center, or customer support.
HBO Max lists Amazon Appstore billing for Brazil and Mexico, and Prime Video Channels for Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. Provider availability and exact steps can depend on country and account; check the Subscription screen and the provider’s instructions. See HBO Max’s subscription-management guidance.

Confirm the cancellation
Save any confirmation email and check the subscription status with the billing provider. For a direct subscription, HBO Max says the account displays Resume Your Subscription instead of Cancel Your Subscription after cancellation. If you did not receive confirmation or the status is unclear, contact the biller. See HBO Max’s cancellation troubleshooting guidance.

Note the expiration date
HBO Max says you can keep streaming until the subscription expires at the end of its billing period. Cancel before your next billing date to prevent another renewal, and record the expiration date shown after cancellation.

What to do if cancellation does not go as expected
There is no cancel button
Check the biller at the top of the Subscription screen and cancel through that company. HBO Max cannot necessarily cancel a subscription billed by another provider.

You deleted the app but are still being charged
Deleting HBO Max from a phone, TV, or other device does not cancel the subscription. Complete the cancellation with the billing company.
You cannot find the subscription in Apple or Google Play
Make sure you are signed in to the Apple Account or Google account used to subscribe. If the subscription is not there, recheck the biller shown in HBO Max or review your payment statement.

A charge appears after you canceled
Check whether the subscription is still active, whether you canceled close to the next billing date, or whether you have more than one HBO Max account. HBO Max notes that some providers may require cancellation at least 24 hours before the next billing period, but the deadline varies. Verify the cutoff with your biller and contact the company that charged you about any unexpected payment; a refund is not guaranteed.
