Cancel Grok through the service that billed you: use X Premium subscription management for a subscription bought on the web, or the Apple App Store or Google Play account used for an in-app purchase. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal period, confirm that the plan is marked canceled or non-renewing, and keep the confirmation. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription, and cancellation normally stops the next renewal rather than refunding the period you already paid for.
First, find out who is billing you
“Grok subscription” is not always the name that appears on a payment record. X says its paid X Subscription includes X Premium benefits and Grok, while people who already have an X Premium plan may keep their current plan, price and features until they choose to switch. Your card statement or receipt may therefore identify the charge as X or X Premium instead of Grok.
The billing route determines where cancellation must be completed. Check the receipt delivered after purchase, your bank or card statement, and the subscription list on any Apple or Google account you use. Do not choose a cancellation route based only on which device you are using now; use the platform that actually processed the payment.

X directs customers to Apple or Google for app-related cancellation and refund issues. The exact store labels can differ by operating-system version, country and account, so treat the platform’s current subscription screen as authoritative.

Know which product name to look for
The name shown in a subscription list can be different from the name you use when describing it. A person may say they subscribed to Grok, while the transaction is recorded as an X Subscription or X Premium purchase. This is especially important when an existing Premium plan has not been switched to a newer bundled offering. X says existing Premium subscribers retain their current plan, price and features until they choose to switch.
Match more than one detail before canceling: the merchant name, the amount, the purchase date, the renewal date and the account identifier. If two entries look similar, do not cancel a second plan simply because it contains the word “Grok.” First determine which entry produced the recurring charge on your statement. This prevents stopping the wrong plan while leaving the billed subscription active.
A subscription list on one device is not a complete account history. An Apple ID or Google account used by another family member, an older phone, or a separate X account may hold the purchase. The receipt is usually the best starting point because it identifies the store or merchant and the account associated with the transaction.

Use this route when the receipt or account history shows that the subscription was purchased on x.com rather than through an app store.
- Sign in to the correct X account. Use the account associated with the receipt or the Premium benefits. If you have multiple X accounts, check each account’s subscription area rather than assuming the account currently open in your browser is the billed one.
- Open X Premium subscription management. From the signed-in account, go to the area under X Premium that manages the paid subscription. The wording and placement of controls can change as X updates its interface.
- Choose the cancellation or non-renewal control. Follow the confirmation prompts all the way through. Closing the page, removing a payment method or simply stopping use of Grok is not the same as confirming cancellation.
- Read the final status. Look for wording that says the subscription is canceled, will not renew, or remains active only until a stated end date. Save the confirmation screen or email, including the date and account identifier.
- Check the next billing date. If the account still shows an upcoming renewal after you completed the process, repeat the management steps or contact X support before that date.
X’s published guidance says cancellation prevents billing for the next payment period. It does not generally return an amount already paid unless a refund is required by law, so canceling immediately after a renewal normally does not erase that charge.
Cancel an iPhone or iPad purchase
An in-app purchase is controlled by the Apple account that paid, not by deleting the Grok or X app and not by changing settings inside a different X account.
- Open the Apple account’s subscriptions list on the iPhone, iPad or Apple account that made the purchase.
- Locate the X, X Premium or Grok-related subscription. The product name shown by Apple can differ from the name you use conversationally, so match the receipt, price and renewal date.
- Select the cancellation option and confirm it. Continue until Apple displays a completed cancellation or a non-renewing status. A screen that merely shows plan details is not proof that renewal has been disabled.
- Save the confirmation. Keep the confirmation email or a screenshot showing the subscription name and end date.
Apple’s menu labels and paths vary with iOS or iPadOS versions, language and region. If the subscription does not appear, sign in to the Apple account shown on the purchase receipt; checking a different Apple account will not expose the plan. For a refund request connected to an Apple-billed purchase, use Apple’s refund process rather than asking X to reverse the App Store transaction.

Cancel an Android purchase
For an Android purchase, the Google account that completed the transaction controls renewal. The X account and the Google Play account can be different, which is why signing in to the correct store account matters.
- Open Google Play subscription management with the Google account that appears on the receipt.
- Find the X, X Premium or Grok-related entry. Compare the listed renewal date and charge with your receipt or card statement before changing anything.
- Use the cancellation control and finish every confirmation step. Do not treat uninstalling the app as cancellation; the recurring agreement remains with Google Play until you turn it off there.
- Verify the resulting status. Look for a canceled or non-renewing label and an access end date, then save the confirmation.
Google Play’s labels and screens can vary by Android version, country and account configuration. If no subscription is listed, check other Google accounts on the device and search the purchase receipt for the account that was charged. Google handles refund requests for Google-billed app purchases.
Cancel early enough to prevent the next charge
X’s FAQ states: “To avoid further charges, cancel your Premium subscription at least 24 hours before the auto-renewal period.” Treat that as X’s published timing guidance, not a guarantee that every payment processor will stop a transaction at precisely the same minute. Store processing, time zones and a renewal already entering payment processing can affect what happens.
Do not wait until the renewal day. If your renewal is scheduled for Friday, complete the cancellation no later than Thursday at the corresponding deadline shown by the billing platform. When the store displays a time or time zone, use that information rather than relying on your local midnight.

- Start by checking the next-renewal date in the same platform that billed you.
- Cancel at least 24 hours before that period begins, with extra time if you are close to the deadline.
- Wait for the final confirmation instead of assuming the request succeeded.
- Reopen the subscription page and confirm that no future renewal is scheduled.
What cancellation changes—and what it does not
Future renewals
A successful cancellation normally turns off the next automatic renewal. It does not necessarily terminate the service immediately. X describes cancellation as preventing billing for the next payment period.
Access during the paid period
Premium features normally remain available until the current billing cycle ends. You can therefore continue using the paid benefits through the displayed end date even after auto-renewal is disabled. The exact end date shown by the billing platform is more reliable than an assumption based on the day you clicked cancel.
Money already charged
Cancellation is not an automatic refund. X says amounts already paid are generally not refunded except where required by law. For an app-store purchase, X directs you to Apple or Google for refund issues. Consumer protections and platform procedures can differ by region, so a refund request should be made through the billing platform and according to the rules that apply to your purchase location.

Payment methods
Removing a card, replacing it, or letting a payment fail is not a substitute for canceling. A billing platform may retry a failed payment or charge another saved method. Disable the recurring plan first, then manage payment methods separately if needed.
If the renewal is close or already processing
If you discover the subscription on the renewal date, cancel it immediately rather than waiting for support. The 24-hour instruction is X’s published guidance, but it is not a promise that a payment already submitted for processing can be stopped. Save the exact time you canceled and the status displayed afterward.
If the plan shows a pending charge, do not repeatedly start and abandon cancellation flows or remove payment methods in the hope that the charge will disappear. Complete one cancellation, capture its confirmation, and then contact the billing platform if the transaction posts. The platform that processed the payment has the transaction record and is the appropriate place to ask about a disputed renewal or refund.
Verify the cancellation and keep useful evidence
Because the platform of purchase controls the subscription, verification should happen in that same platform. A practical record includes the account used, the date and time of cancellation, the displayed end date, and the confirmation number or email if one is supplied.
- Return to the X Premium, Apple subscription or Google Play subscription page.
- Confirm that the plan says canceled, non-renewing or active until a specific end date.
- Check that the next renewal date has disappeared or is labeled as canceled.
- Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot that includes the status and date.
- Keep the original receipt and any support correspondence until the next statement has posted without a new renewal charge.
This evidence helps distinguish a cancellation that completed from a page that was closed before confirmation. It also gives the billing platform the details needed to investigate a later charge.

The charge says X, not Grok
Follow the billing record. X’s current paid subscription bundles X Premium benefits and Grok, so a charge labeled X or X Premium can still be the subscription you are trying to stop. Existing X Premium subscribers may remain on their current plan until they elect to switch; do not create a second subscription while trying to identify the first one.
You deleted or uninstalled the app
Uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. The recurring agreement remains with Apple or Google, so complete cancellation in the store account that made the purchase.

You deactivated your X account
Account deactivation is not the standard cancellation method. X says subscriptions purchased on x.com are automatically canceled if the account is deactivated, but an app-store subscription associated with a suspended or locked X account is not automatically canceled. It still must be canceled through Apple or Google. Deactivation can also make it harder to access account records, so cancel through the billing platform first whenever possible.
You cannot see the plan
- Check whether the receipt names X, X Premium, Apple or Google.
- Sign in to the exact X account, Apple account or Google account shown on the receipt.
- Look for a family, secondary or work account that may have made the purchase.
- Compare the charge date and amount with each account’s subscription list.
- If the subscription is still missing, contact the platform that appears on the payment record and provide the transaction details.
You were charged after canceling
First compare the charge time with the cancellation confirmation and the stated renewal deadline. Then verify that the plan was marked canceled before the renewal period, rather than merely opened or paused. If the charge remains unexplained, contact the billing platform that processed it: X for a web purchase, Apple for an Apple-billed purchase, or Google for a Google Play purchase. Include the receipt, cancellation evidence, account identifier and the charge date. Do not assume that asking a different platform will reverse the transaction.

Ask the platform that billed you. X’s policy is that a payment already made is generally not refunded unless required by law, while app-related refund requests go to Apple or Google. Explain the circumstances and your region; eligibility can depend on local consumer rules and the platform’s procedure.

A suspended or locked X account does not automatically cancel an app-store subscription. Apple or Google still controls that recurring payment, so use the store account and receipt to turn it off. If you cannot access the X account but can access the billing account, cancellation should still be completed there. If you cannot access either account, gather the merchant name, transaction date, amount and receipt number before contacting the platform’s support team.
For a web subscription, X says deactivation automatically cancels subscriptions purchased on x.com. Even so, deactivation should not be your first choice when you can reach subscription management normally: it may remove access to confirmation details and does not cancel an Apple- or Google-billed plan.
A short cancellation checklist
- Read the receipt or card statement to identify X, Apple or Google as the billing platform.
- Sign in to the exact account connected to that payment.
- Open that platform’s subscription-management page.
- Complete the cancellation flow, including the final confirmation.
- Do it at least 24 hours before the published auto-renewal period.
- Verify the canceled or non-renewing status and note the access end date.
- Save the confirmation and monitor the next statement.
- Send any refund request to the platform that processed the purchase.
The decisive step is matching the cancellation screen to the original billing route. Once that route is confirmed and the platform shows no future renewal, the subscription should stop generating the next recurring charge while the paid period runs to its stated end.

Can I cancel Grok by deleting the app?
No. Uninstalling the X or Grok app does not cancel a recurring subscription. Cancel on X if you paid on x.com, or in the Apple or Google account that processed the in-app purchase.

What if my statement says X Premium instead of Grok?
Use the billing record. X subscriptions include X Premium benefits and Grok, so an X or X Premium merchant name may identify the plan you want to stop. Match the amount and renewal date before canceling.
Will I lose Grok immediately after canceling?
Normally no. Cancellation generally turns off the next renewal, while Premium features remain available through the paid billing period. Use the end date shown by X, Apple or Google as the authoritative date.
Is canceling an automatic refund?
